When I was a little girl, I wanted to become a film director. By the time I was ten-years-old, I had already come up with an idea of where I wanted to attend college, what I wanted to major in, what kind of movies I would make, and even what age I would most likely win an Oscar at. Even though my dreams were a bit unrealistic, my parents told me to keep my head up high and maintain the one thing behind my aspirations: determination. As I grew out of my movie director phase, I became interested in what was going on, on a global scale. Every day after school I would find my mother watching the news religiously and my curiosity drew me next to her on the couch so I could also be informed. I became very disappointed to see all of the horrible things happening in the world and I would often tell my mother about how I would come up with solutions to help those in …show more content…
Since I’m interested in politics, I joined the Young Democrats club and I applied to hopefully become one of the girls representing my school at American Legion Auxiliary Virginia Girls’ State. I also wanted to develop my leadership skills, so I became co-president of FIDM Fashion Club with my friend and moved up the ranks of the Advanced Orchestra cabinet to eventually become the president. Becoming a part of these extracurriculars has increased my desire to become a political leader, especially being a part of the Young Democrats. During the 2016 election cycle, we volunteered at a Hillary Clinton rally and I was awestruck. This experience not only gave me a new idea about politics, but it strengthened my desire to become a politician. From experiencing a real life mock government setting at Virginia Girls’ State to attending political rallies and discussions with the Young Democrats to planning and coordinating a charity fashion show to help others, I saw the power of compassion, initiative, and leadership in action and I loved
I am infatuated with reselling sneakers, trading within the stock market, and researching political topics rather than going to parties, playing hours of video games, or scanning social media constantly. I have never fit in with my peers, and truly have felt belittled in many ways about my grades, standardized test scores, and general intellect. Though these things cause rifts, I still enjoy social life here because I am an outgoing person. I am socially involved and was even elected by my peers as vice president of the senior class. Even though I feel like I can never relate to those around me, I find ways to be a great leader. Along with being elected as vice president, I have also been elected to the outstanding delegation of the Alabama Lions High School Forum, going on from the outstanding delegation to win the exclusive title of elite delegate. I received a scholarship from this title that all 120+ of my fellow males from across Alabama competed for. In another instance, I was part of a program called Youth Leadership of the Shoals which is a selective leadership program that selects a small delegation from each school in the
What were Edwin S. Porter's significant contributions to the development of early narrative film? In what sense did Porter build upon the innovations of contemporaneous filmmakers, and for what purposes?
My roles in Healthy Campus gave me the confidence to go even further a take on leadership positions on campus. Not only was I was elected to an undergraduate student senate positon, but I was also voted in as the top senator for the College of Architecture Arts, and Humanities. I also succeeded in the classroom and achieved a spot on the Dean’s List for the first time in my academic career. Due to my leadership abilities and academic achievements, I was selected for two coveted public speaking roles. The first was at the Clemson Law Enforcement Summit, a gathering of local law enforcement officials to discuss better enforcement strategies for underage drinking and community policing. The second was at the Clemson University Student Affairs banquet, which recognizes outstanding student and administrative
I’ve taken rigorous courses in areas that challenge me and stimulate my mind. My favorite classes have been the one’s that challenge me the most, like AP World History, AP US History, and AP European History. One of my most meaningful academic achievements was getting the highest possible score on the AP US History exam. My love for history gave birth to my interest in politics and law. For the past two years I’ve been a delegate at the North Carolina Youth Legislative Assembly. This opportunity allowed me to debate and discuss politics with other young people. But what really merged my passion with history and politics together was representing North Carolina at the Electric Cooperative Youth Tour to Washington D.C. in June 2016. During this week long experience I was able to tour our nation’s capital and met with U.S. Representatives and Senators. I’ve always worked hard to succeed in my endeavors because I want my hard work to make the Hispanic community proud and inspire other young
Growing up, my mother always encouraged me to be involved in any activity I should interest in, whether that be soccer, softball, theater, or chess club. While my mom did not always have the extra money or time, she never told me I could not pursue a new activity. Through my mother’s actions, I have learned to never settle and to continue to fight and work for better, for myself and others. My mother’s selfless attitude and positive attitude inspire me to have the same attitude with the my future family and the people around me.
Rarely has a film impacted an audience and held the test of time as the film Gone with the Wind. I have always been curious if director, Victor Fleming and producer, David O. Selznick and screenplay writer, Sidney Howard knew what they were creating a masterpiece and how this film would have such an enormous impact on audiences for years to come. Interestingly enough there were some who thought the film should not be made, as Irving Thalberg said to Louis B. Meyer in 1936, “Forget it Louis, no Civil War picture ever made a nickel” (Ten Films that Shook the World).
I first took interest in this career path when I was exploring a different variety of jobs during high school. My mom asked me,” what do I want out of life”? So I explained to her that I want to do something that matters to people. I want to help people. But over all things I want to be a mom. I want to be able to provide for my family. My mom went on to explain how she thought being a hygienist would suit me. It’s funny how our moms know us better than we know ourselves sometimes! She went on to explain how she had a friend who pursued a career as a dental hygienist that it worked out for her in many ways. She got to raise her own children but continue growing in a lifelong career path. She got to support her family while not missing out on the milestones her children were accomplishing. She had become very successful within her career and about 25 years later, she still loves it the same. I knew that was the life I wanted, so I started to research where I would need to start.
I was able to become a student senator and contribute to the Washburn Student Government Association. I was placed in an internship in the Kansas House Minority Leaders office for 8 months, helping with constituent service and developing a community mentorship program with legislators from both parties. I participated in four Washburn Transformational Experience programs which allowed me to study culture and economics in Japan and Korea, Politics in the United Kingdom, and follow presidential candidates in Iowa. I volunteered on a student voter registration drive led by the Kansas League of Women Voters. All while maintaining a 3.7 GPA in Washburn’s rigorous political science
About me: Growing up in Miami Beach, Florida, I’ve had a different perspective on demographic issues, the political process, and local politics than most. Currently, I am a junior at Miami Beach Senior High School where I am an avid participant in the National Speech and Debate Association, my school’s Student Government Association (SGA), and United States Grant Committee. Something different about me is that earlier this year I started a political action committee (PAC) called Teens for Teens. As the youngest director of a PAC in the country, I have definitely had some interesting experiences that other 16 year old students don't experience too often.
In Thinking Like A Director: A Practical Handbook, Michael Bloom explains the importance of research and how a director should conduct his or her research for a play. Bloom states that “it’s the director’s responsibility to unearth all versions and, in consultation with the producer, determine which to use” (18). I think it would be important for a director to be familiar of multiple versions of a play instead of one. If there are multiple versions of a play, a director could read each of them to determine which text they would prefer to use for his or her production. Reading each version could also give a director additional knowledge of the play. Having access to different versions of the text could also make the director aware of the advantages
As a little girl, I dreamed of attending college and having a career. Others my age were preoccupied with dreams of the perfect wedding or husband, but I was busy envisioning myself attending a prestigious university, acing my classes and becoming a successful woman. Along the way, the profession I aspired to be has changed, the desire to go to an ivy league school has changed, but the dream to attend college has never faltered. I have overcome many challenges and setbacks on this journey, but at 28 years old I am finally ready to take the leap and fulfill my dreams. Growing up there was no one in my life that told me I could be whatever I wanted to be.
My entire life I have been fascinated with film and commercials. As a kid, I would stop what I was doing to watch a commercial. This has not changed through the years. My goal in life is to work in the film industry and work with video. This may have developed from my brother’s short term love for the video arts. Like most little brothers I followed in his footsteps through a lot of things and most of them would not stick. As I grew older I developed my own different ideals and likes. But, video just stuck with me. Even if film production doesn’t work out I have always had a childlike excitement for fighting fires. Being the person to save the day is something that everybody wants to do, but not everyone peruses this dangerous career.
The theory of authorship was launched by directors and critics working around a French magazine Cahiers du Cinema. In the '60s it had a strong impact on the development of artistic cinema in Europe and the World. Various trends were created, such as Angry Young Men in the United Kingdom, or Nouvelle Vague in the French cinema or Nowa Fala (The New Wave) in Poland.
The intention of this essay is to discuss the romantic notion of a film director who has etched their own cinematic vision into the body of their film work, and whether the theory and practice is dead and an infringement of the spectator’s imagination and is it the spectator who finds meaning in the film. I will be closely looking at critical material, primarily André Bazin and Roland Barthes and applying them to several case study films directed by Christopher Nolan including The Following (1998), The Prestige (2006) and Inception (2010), to examine whether Nolan possesses the qualities of an auteur and if so, does that imply an ideological view of what the auteur resembles or an artistic one.
Data is important and a main-stream form of communication throughout the world; however, without being able to represent the data in a format that is easily understandable, then the data will not be as useful. Anderson, Sweeney, Williams, Camm, & Cochran (2015) define data as “the facts and figures collected, analyzed, and summarized for presentation and interpretation” (p. 5). It is important for statisticians, mangers, and employees to collect and present statistical data in accurate and easy to read format. When presenting data to managers for instance, the easiest form of communication, yet effectively provide details as to the importance of the data to the applicable situation should be used. Scientists use data to measure scientific results; such as, comparing the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere over the last 650,000 years (NASA, 2015) – See Appendix A. In business, data is found in all parts of industry; such as, accounting, finance, marketing, production, economics, and information systems (Anderson et al, 2015, p. 3-5). In the case of this study, the results will be shown as a managerial report from an accumulation of data showing the financial success of 100 motion pictures on the years 20XX in the following categories: Rank, Movie Title, Opening Gross, Total Gross, Theaters (number of) and Weeks (weeks shown). The managerial report will show the descriptive statistics (mean, median, range and standard deviation see data
