The film Alice in Wonderland was directed by Tim Burton and was based on Alice 's adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. It starred Johnny Depp (The Mad Hatter), Anne Hathaway (The White Queen), Helena Bonham Carter (The Red Queen/Queen of Hearts), Crispin Clover (The Knave of hearts), Matt Lucas (Tweedle-dee and Tweedle-dum) and Mia Wasikowska (Alice Kingsleigh). The music in this film was done by Danny Elfman who frequently works with Tim Burton 's movies and the film was distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures in 2010.The clip that I will be analysing from Alice In wonderland is the Mad Hatter 's morning execution scene. In this clip the Mad Hatter is going to be executed by order of the Red queen and it shows him and Cheshire cat talking in his cell when the feline appears. Then the execution happens and it is revealed that Cheshire cat had impersonated the Mad Hatter to save him and to wear his hat. Firstly, I will mention an extremely important contribution to this clip which is the costume and makeup as a part of mise en scene. The Mad Hatter is the first example of how good the makeup and costumes in this film are and how they play a massive role to a characters depiction. The costume and makeup of the Mad Hatter is very suitable as it shows how eccentric he is. I think it encompasses the fact that he is indeed mad and his big hat shows how much he actually loves hats.
