Explain cues filtered out theory, media richness theory, and social information processing theory. How are these theories reflected in your own life? Explain.
According to the textbook the definition of Cues-filtered-out-theory is, “Theory that suggests that communication of emotions is restricted when people send messages to others via text message because nonverbal cues such as facial expression, gestures, and tone of voice are filtered out.” What I think that Cues-filtered out theory is saying is when it comes to social media communications its hard to fully understand what the other person's is trying to communicate without getting nonverbal cues from the conversation. One day I was text messaging my boyfriend and we were talking about

When I am texting my boyfriend and I put a lot of time and effort into an important message I feel as if he is getting all of my cues and he knows how I am feeling. If I don't put a lot of time and effort into it and just send a quick message communication could be misinterpreted.
2. Define self-esteem. Explain a situation in your own life where your self-esteem was affected in a negative way. Based on text information on improving self-esteem, be specific on 3 ways to improve your self esteem in the situation. Be specific about your own

A time when I had very low self esteem was back in my sophomore high school. My dad was diagnosed with cancer my sophomore year and looking at my friends families and seeing everyone healthy and happy. I struggled with being away from home at a college prep boarding school and my self esteem became very low. I just didn't think that I was as good as any of my friends and my life just seemed to be falling apart and I felt like I had no control over my life. Three things really helped me build back my self esteem and that was social support, reframing, and stop comparing myself with others.
Social support is defined as “expression of empathy and concern for others that is communicated while listening to them and offering positive and encouraging words.” What social support is by talking to someone and then giving you positive feedback and just having them hear what you are saying. Something that helped me when I started to slowly build myself worth back up was talking to my counselor and getting social support and just talking about everything that was happening in my life. My counselor, Delwin Garcia, helped me build up my self worth and helped me see how valuable I really
To better establish your self-worth, focus on the positives. Consider keeping a journal and writing down all the things you’ve done right and all the greatness you have to offer. This can help improve your confidence and dispel feelings of social rejection.
1. Describe four areas of self-esteem discussed in the text and provide an example of each.
The following check list is useful for me to make sure to go over all areas related to low self-esteem:
Jim is describing symptoms that meet criteria for persistent depressive disorder (PDD). In specific, he described symptoms that allow Criterion A, which requires the presence of a depressed mood for at least two years (American Psychiatric Association [APA], 2013), to be met. He reported that he is mildly depressed. Such depression, as described, started approximately five years ago when he “ran out of steam.” Since then, he has experienced various associated symptoms, such as irritability, hypersomnia, and weight gain, which allow Criterion B (i.e., the presence of two or more associated symptoms; APA, 2013) to be met.
Low self-esteem has been an issues with many people since before the 1970’s. This issue has gradually picked up since the 70’s and has progressed 37% in the last 200
Nothing is more important in life than having positive self-esteem and a positive outlook on life. With positive self-esteem, a person can accomplish just about anything they put their mind to. Developing self-esteem starts from the day a baby is born and continues throughout their life, but unfortunately, this development is not always complete for some by the time they are adults. If we have low confidence in ourselves and our ability to succeed, it’s time to take another look at how we can build confidence. First of all, it’s important to recognize and believe that positive
The author Kevin Solomons said, “You chose to process the ways you currently deal with the negative situations in your life. You also can choose to change those methods and unlearn the harmful techniques that have caused your self-esteem to plummet, thus preventing you from enjoying the things in life that you crave. You possess a natural power to heal yourself” (Solomons). The main approaches taken in the article was to show how any oppressions that a person could go through can hinder the self-esteem. The explanation
Text messages lack tone. Feelings need to be articulated clearly and openly and not typed in electronic
Most people face self esteem problems at different levels. At some point in life people face this problem without realizing it. In the essay The Trouble with Self-Esteem written by Lauren Slater starts of by demonstrating a test. Self esteem test that determines whether you have a high self-esteem or low self-esteem. The question to be answered however is; what is the value and meaning of self-esteem? The trouble with self-esteem is that not everyone approaches it properly, taking a test or doing research based of a certain group of people is not the way to do so.
Boosting your self-esteem is not an easy thing, so a plan must be set in the beginning and followed until the end. The first step is to except who you are. This is very important step because no matter who you try to be your always most comfortable
What would you do if, at no fault of your own, your entire life was turned upside-down and you were forced into an entirely different situation than the one you were previously in? In the novel, The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak, a young girl is put into tough situations, forcing her to make decisions that a girl her age would never even dream about having to make. During World War II, a young girl, Leisel Meminger, is forced to go live with a foster family in the town of Munich in Germany. Here, she learns of life, love, loss, and death. Many of her situations she is forced into doing, whether it is from her mama or the poverty that she are living in. In the small town of Munich, she makes friends, loses friends, and learns the pain of the world
I have some friends who used to have major problems with their self-esteem, and I felt useless because I thought I could do nothing to help. I ended up stopping them from cutting themselves and worse. The things that they said and did tore
While low self-esteem is largely a self-reported phenomena, there are some tests you can do to get a better idea of where you stand. These tests vary from those which your doctor or mental health practitioner can give you or online tests you can take online. While I would still suggest that most of your determination of your self-confidence issues comes from introspection, tests can definitely be a good start to allow you to look at what areas you should focus on.
People’s self-esteem either high or low is shaped by their life experiences. I believe a person’s self-esteem begins to take shape at an early age, with their parents being a major influence. Kind, positive, knowledgeable and caring parents help children create a positive self-image. Parents who do not feel good about themselves or others, sometimes take it out on their childern by belittling them or discouraging them. This leads the child down a path of self-doubt and eventually given the right circumstances a lower self-esteem.
Capital punishment has been a part of public debate in the United States for as long as I can remember. Proponents say it prevents crime; opponents claim it is cruel and unusual punishment. Social science has been unable to either conclusively support or disprove the theory that capital punishment deters crime (Schonebaum, 2002), mirroring the mixed emotions of many Americans on the subject. Historically, execution has been a significant form of punishment for deviance from social norms and for criminal behavior. (Schaefer, 2009, p. 175) The most powerful argument for the deterrent effect of the death penalty comes from the commonsense notion that people fear death more than life in prison.
