The familiar hum of the hospitals fluorescent lights greeted Lacy as she walked towards the nurses station. Her boss Dr. Riley was the first to greet her.
“Morning Lacy, I need you to head over to bay two to check on Mr. Adams.”
“Yes sir” she replied.
She headed down the hall stopping just outside the room. Parker Adams was a young man who was in a terrible skiing accident that caused him to slip into a coma. He had been in the hospital for almost three weeks now, and as the days passed Lacy began to fall more and more in love with him. Everyday his friends or family would visit they would sit by his bedside and talk to him. The more Lacy learned about Parker the more she realized how similar they were. She stood in the doorway thinking about how perfect they are for each other, and wishing he would wake up and feel the same way about her.
“Ummm excuse me! Can I help you?” An all too familiar voice came from Parkers room.
A young woman with a tiny upturned nose and long bleach blonde hair sat in the corner of the room staring at Lacy waiting for a reply.
“Oh, um, I’m sorry” Lacy stammered “I am here to check on Mr.Adams.”
Suddenly she was snapped back to reality. She and Parker were similar in many ways, relationship status not being one. He had a girlfriend, Jocelyn. Even though Lacy had never officially met Parker she could not help but feel Jocelyn was all wrong for him. She was rude, arrogant, and high maintenance. After Parker’s accident Jocelyn spent a lot of
Jackie and I were now halfway to where Mike’s car wreck took place, on Highway 46. The accident must have been pretty bad because it was reported on the news, a rare case, I thought to myself. I prayed Mike was going to be ok. The drive felt like it was taking hours to get to the scene . I could feel the tension in the car growing. The fact that one of our closest friends could be gravely injured was a slug shot from a shotgun into our chests. Jackie was still distressed as she drove; tears dripped from her eyes like droplets from a cool water bottle on a hot day.
She then cringed as she conjured up the image of Samuel and the expression on his face when she had told him she was marrying someone else. The hurt in his eyes had burned a hole in her heart that remained to this day. She quivered all over, not from the nasty cold, but as a reaction to her thoughts as they drifted back to that ghastly day and to the moment she realized she was pregnant with Owen’s baby: the day her life ceased to exist as she had known it.
“And then,” LeRoy recited, listening to Rachel’s crayon scratch along a piece of notepaper, “the beautiful princess broke free from the castle’s highest tower. The straw broke her fall, cushioning her from the cold ground, and she laughed as she realized how thoroughly her stepmother had underestimated her talent. She freed her steed from his moldy paddock and road as far away from the prison of her old home as she could. There was a prince for her to rescue and a whole world to see, and no matter where she ended up, she vowed to herself that she’d live to become happily ever after.”
Her whole world was crashing down. It what seemed like only a split second, her best friend’s father had been condemned to death. Someone who she considered to be like a father was going to be taken away, ripped away from her.
Of course he didn’t…it was late in the night and the coat closet was easy to forget. Except she hadn’t forgotten. She hadn’t forgotten the way he had kissed her, pushed her up against the mint green walls between designer jackets and told her that he had feelings for her. She had reciprocated of course, it was late. Last summer seemed so far away yet so close.
It was later that she found out that she had been kidnapped by an agency that sold people. She couldn’t believe it when the boy told her. Shaking with fear she began to sob again. Closing her eyes she willed it to be dream, but every time she opened them she was still in that bed, restrained, and wearing a blue hospital gown. She didn’t spend too long in the facility and she never got a chance to ask why the boy had been injured.
“Jessie? Are you in there, sweetie?” He called and heard shuffling from behind her door.
William continued walking until he arrived at the crime scene. In his mind he tried to picture what had happened, but it was just too much for him. His thoughts were interrupted when a man, "Driving a 2005 Chrysler 300 jumped a curb and collided with," (seven 1) a young woman who was crossing the road. Everything happened so quickly that William had no time to react. The vehicle continued driving even after it hit the woman. William saw the woman lying on the road and rushed to help her. The woman stood up with William's help. As she assured him she was okay and that everything was fine, she fainted in William's arms. William stood there confused, not knowing what to do with the beautiful stranger who had just fainted in his arms. The nearest hospital was located in the next village which was about twenty miles away. He decided that he would take her to his hotel room and take care of her
Five minutes later, Amira called out again. “Sara, I see something in my room. Can you come and look at it? I’m scared.”
Awake in Owen’s arms she listened to his heartbeat. As the slow thump soothed her mind, she finally let herself think of her relationship with Owen.
Moving my gaze up from the smooth wooden floors, I looked at the tall female, “Hm?
The flood of emotions tumbles out. A stream of questions, one after another, is rapidly fired at him - where did he go, why did he leave, and most importantly, why didn’t he say goodbye? All this time she’d spent waiting in the past, suspended in time, unable to receive any semblance of closure or composure. All the pent up emotions rush out of her and guilt flashes in his eyes. "Let’s go inside first,” he says, “I’ll explain what I
She touched the little box inside her pocket and smiled. She remembered all the adventurous days she spent with her chivalrous husband. She recalled traveling around the world, going to stunning, beautiful places. She remembered all the days they spent exploring new cities, trying new restaurants, and creating memories. Her husband passed away 6 months ago, and the pain was as fresh as the day it happened. He had been her best friend, her support, and her lifeline for 25 years. They built a beautiful life together, always traveling from city to city to find out what the world had to offer.
Love; how much is hiding in these four letters, people all over the world love each other. Love is a great power which makes life so important. I think that without love, people can not live in this world. Some people have already met love. When I was growing up, I was always told that there is someone in this beautiful world for everyone, and I never seemed to believe it. I had been heart crushed by a guy I thought I loved, so ever since then, I thought true love could not be real. I always dreamed of a relationship in movies with the perfect couple walking by the ocean together, holding hands so tight that there are no spaces between their fingers, and always thought to myself, “When will I find love like that?” One day, though, when I
“I love you.” These three little words might possibly be the most powerful statement one can make to another person. In life, most yearn for the intimate affection that a certain someone can provide them. Women dream of their Prince Charming to come and sweep them off their feet, while men search for the love of their life that sets their heart on fire. But what happens when love is thrown around without a second thought? Has this four letter word become an overused cliché? Has love been replaced with lust? Is there such a thing as true love? This last question has been asked throughout history, while many have argued and debated over the final answer. We, as a society, have become a loveless, sex crazed group
