With 123 organizations and over 9 million members in total, Greek Letter Organizations is the largest network of people in the Nation. This network include most Presidents and Vice Presidents of America, 76% of Congressmen and Senators, and”40 of the 47 [members] of the United States Supreme Court Justices since 1910”. In many of your campuses your students leaders are normally consist of Greek Members, who also serve in many of leadership positions in their organization as well. Men ad Woman who wear Greek Letters complete the most service hours, over 10 million, each year in the world. Matney and Taylor (2008) address the lack of consistency in state laws and how it harms the proper education of hazing to students in America. Since education is the best way to relay this type of information, it is imperative that colleges across the nation come to a common ground. At many schools, there is normally one ‘anti-hazing’ workshop for new members and the topic is never discussed again until an incident actually occurs on campus. In many anti-hazing prevention problems the topic of informed consent is never discussed with members, which will make many believe that if they agree to the acts that are happening, then no harm is being done. The idea that informed consent condones all acts of hazing stems from a common Roman law “volenti non fir injuria” which means “To a willing person, no injury is done” (Pgs 7-8). This idea was overturned years later in favor for the health of the individuals, as some acts t performed was very harmful. Parks and Southerland talk about this in their research, noting that several courts have dismissed the defense of informed consent in cases in which a student was harmed, especially when the injury was major. However, they did also note that; if the body of the victim was only threatened and not harm by the group, many judges will allow the defense of informed consent enter into trial. The
