Hey Knights! So, I know everyone’s just dying to get back to class so I’ll keep this as brief as possible. *script falls to the floor* For those of you who I haven’t gotten the chance to introduce myself, my name is Claire! But to the people that do know me, they know me as Claire, the dancer. I’ve been dancing for 7 years, and throughout those years, it has taught me work ethic, and commitment. Which I like to point out are two very presidential characteristics, just saying. Anyways back to dance, you know what sucked this year? The fact that I couldn’t show my fire dance moves at tolo. I mean I feel like if you guys saw me out on the dance floor I would’ve even need to campaign. I’m just kidding, I actually reconnected with a lot my old
The third Mexican cultural activity that has survived and influenced the development of Chicana cultural practices in the U.S. is the Folklorico dances. These dances can be seen in the U.S. especially when there is a Mexican celebration or event. I personally experienced begin part of a group that danced folklorico. The dresses we used for the dance were inspired by the Yucatan look. We also accessorized with a crown of flowers made with fabric, long earrings, and a necklace of perals. We also combed all our hair back, and used make-up. It took alot of time to learn the three dances, and a lot of practice for the dance to come out good. In the end it was all worth it because I learned how to dance and how the women dress to dance. This cultural

Whether you are dancing for passion, to get into shape or to just attain some mental peace, jazz is an excellent option to choose. This highly energetic dance form is unique and has revolutionised the way we look at dance.
Since my sophomore year in high school I have been a part of a very unique dance group. This group is known as Alma Folklorica de Oklahoma, which translates to Fokloric soul of Oklahoma. We are a dance group that performs traditional dances from the country of Mexico. In my hometown there is strong Hispanic population, but more predominantly from Mexico. It first started as a community group, but eventually it became a school program. When it began people in the community still were apprehensive of newcomers in the community, mostly to the new coming Hispanic population. It began as a transitional program, mostly to show the beautiful culture of the newcomers. After a couple of years it eventually became a high school class. In the early years of it as a class at the high
On Wednesday, November 18th, I had the pleasure to attend and watch the Dance Plus’s Fall show. The Dance Plus was performed at the Douglass Theatre, Victoria Mastrobuno Theater. When I entered the show the theatre seemed a little small for such big crowed. I immediately thought there would not be enough seats for all the audience, but somehow it fitted everyone. As everyone got settled down, the dance performance had started. I chose to write about the first performance that was choreographed by the amazing director, Jessica Lange her work was simply wonderful! I loved every little piece of the play. It put a smile on my face watching this amazing work of art. So with that said, I would now like to talk about the dance performance. There were
The first dance performance I will be analyzing is “Don’t Fall Asleep”. There were dark red lights coming from the top before the dance began. Overall, there were fifteen dancers. There were many different props such as a bed with blankets on top that were rolling around on stage. Also, there was an acorn head that one of the dancers wore on top of his head. The music in the background was “Sweet dreams (Are Made of This)”. When watching this performance and the movement from the dancers, the story line in my opinion was there was a girl who was trying to sleep but she kept being awaken by these dreams. Her body language, jumping in and out of bed, running around basically made you aware that she was looking or running from something. The surrounding
Li was the sixth of 7 brothers,[3] born into poverty in the Li Commune near the city of Qingdao in the Shandong province of the People's Republic of China. He often had to support his extremely poor family. Li's early life coincided with Mao Zedong's rule over the new Communist nation. Li had a strong desire to serve China's Communist Party. He was quite politically devout, eventually joining in the CCP's Youth League. At the age of eleven, he was selected by Madame Mao's cultural advisors to attend the Beijing Dance Academy, where students endured 16-hour-a-day training. He attended the Academy for seven years. The regime in Beijing Dance was harsh, starting each morning at 5:30. Li performed well in the politics class,[4] but did badly in ballet. This changed when he met
While more well-known, specialized schools have had their own annual take on “The Festival of Nations,” RFK’s extracurricular activities focus more on basic sport and common clubs such as Yearbook, Habitat for Humanity, etc. Although the high school does not have a dance team or dance club, a few junior level students decided to create their own dance show similar to that of Townsend Harris. However, even though it wasn’t a formal, well-established production, the students formed their own grassroots type club from the ground up in order to showcase various modern day dance from around the world.
There are many different styles of jazz dance. The first of these is authentic jazz dance. It has influences that come from African movement, and was developed along with jazz music during the early 1900s. Some qualities which are often seen in this style include groundedness, syncopation, polyrhythm, polycentrism, articulation of the torso, circles, improvisation, and individuality. Two styles of dance which fall into this category include tap dance, which developed as a collection of native African dances combined with European dances, and club jazz dance, which developed in the ‘80s ad includes elements such as fast footwork, splits, knee drops, and spins.
Do you ever wonder where variety styles of dance come from? All varieties of dance come from the root of Jazz. Each root without jazz dance, we will not have all the modern dances that we have today. African- Americans unique styles, beats and rhythms have changed the society of the 19th century to the 21 th century. Jazz Dance has evolved over the years.

My favorite dance was the contemporary routine with Derek, Jaja, and Alexia. The choreographer, Stacey Tookey, explained that the piece was about bravery in different forms: Derek played a veteran, Jaja was portraying a woman leaving an abusive relationship, and Alexia took on the role of a single mother. I really enjoyed the dance because of the story it was trying to convey; each dancer dove into character and brought out complex emotions through their movements. The dancers connected deeply with each of their stories, even though they were completely different people. They were portraying things that they had never personally experienced in their lives before. They showed the strengths of the characters along with their weaknesses, they
On December 1, 2017, in the University Theatre at California State University, Dominguez Hills, I observed the fall dance concert Rise. It was choreographed by Amy Michelle Allen, Marco A, Carreon, Sarah Cashmore, Jeff Hendrix, Erin Landry, Doris Ressl Acosta, and Kenneth Walker, with the long cast of dancers. The production was pleasing, and would not have been believable without the work from production designers, Frederick Depontee and Cheryl Sheldon. Rise is played out in eight different dance routines, which were Xtra Xtra, Scar Tissue, Hart Broken, Things Are A Stirrin’, and the rest are intermissions such as Female Energy, Women, Exotica, Strength In Numbers, and Makina.
