A firefighter is not just called to fires while that is there name many are trained in emergency medical services (EMS). Three fourths of the calls a firefighter runs on are medical emergencies including car wrecks. The Chicago fire was a huge part of our history. We can never forget about the Chicago fire because it changed how some people lived. The Chicago fire affected people in many ways. Many people had an idea about how the fire started, where it started and who caused it. It took years to rebuild what had been destroyed, the effect of the chicago fire was remarkable.
On the night of October 8, 1871 at 9:00pm, a horrible fire broke loose. Very dry weather, leaving the ground dry, the wooden city vulnerable. The abundance of wooden buildings a fire started in a barn, outside in Chicago behind the home of Patrick and Catherine O’Leary at 13 Dekoven street. The Great Chicago Fire people are saying was caused by the cow of Patrick and Catherine O’Leary kicked a lantern. No one really doesn’t know how this great fire was started but some theories say humans or a matador caused this fire.
In October 8, 1871,Chicago,Illinois was a city ready to burn by the nightmare of wood.
I would disagree with the statement that "A prudent fire chief steers clear of politics.” All fire departments run on some kind of funding. Without the proper funding then the department either cannot adequately staff apparatus or are forced to cut back in response abilities or additional programs and personnel. Money for funding often comes from the political area and government programs. This is just one of the crucial reasons that "A prudent fire chief" would actually in fact be well involved in politics, creating relationships with individuals that could grow to be influential in decision making. In addition, to overseeing all operational aspects of the department, a chief is a representative of the department
Wildland firefighers are hired by Forest Service Bureaus of land Management, National Park Service, Bureau of Indian Affairs, U. F. Fish and Wildlife Service, Emergency Services, Fish and Game, and Fire and Rescue. Some local agencies also hire them where a large chunk of area within the city is covered by woodland. The employment would be for year-around or seasonal, which means the wildland firefighters will work only during the time when the probability of wildfire breaking out is high.
The reasons why I want to be part of the Los Santos Fire Department reside in my childhood. When I was a child I grew up in a bad neighborhood where crime was spreading like wildfire. My friends were lost in crime and I was alone, but at the same time I was lucky: I had two parents who loved me and tried to keep me away from that nasty environment.
Throughout history men and women have devoted their lives to serving their community in the fire service. Innovation in technology and ideology has shaped today’s fire service. From St. Florian and Ancient Rome to The Knights of St. John and the Crusaders; from the ashes of The Great Fire of London to King Saint Louis of France and the guet bourgeois; from the colonial Bucket Brigades to Benjamin Franklin and his Union Fire Company; From the inferno of the Great Chicago Fire to those lost in the attacks on the World Trade Centers on September 11th, 2001; the fire service continues to evolve to meet the needs of society and answer the calls of those in need. Although many changes have occurred throughout it’s evolution- courage, honor and duty connects the past to the present day firefighter.

Firefighter fatalities are one of the many areas the U.S. Fire Administration collects data on and completes a report annually from reports coming from all the United States. They have conducted and analyzed this information for about 30 years. The report is completed as resource to identify cause of death and trying to prevent future firefighter deaths. According to this report, there were 122 firefighter fatalities from January 5, to December 29, 2007. During that year, eleven (nine percent) of the fatalities occurred in the state of South Carolina. During the month of June 2007, nine South Carolina firefighters perished in a single fire and nine others were seriously injured. The catastrophic fire occurred on June 18, 2007. The fire started
Based on what I read, the answer to protecting firefighter is a combination of policy, procedure implementation, and training. These are important not only to prevent death, but also to prevent any types of injuries. The Jersey City Fire Department (JCFD) trains its members on the Incident Command System and there are procedures for the members to use it (New Jersey Division of Fire Safety, 1993, p. 5). Additionally, they are trained to use the Jersey City Incident Command System (JCICS), based on the National Fire Academy’s system. Better yet, the members of the JCFD use the JCICS on all incidents. The JCICS would help to avoid miscommunication among the emergency personnel. The JCFD also provide firefighters with ladder training daily. The
The debate over using prescribed fires or not to help our environment continues on. Although statistics are hard to come by, many people, including myself, believe that controlled fires are necessary to protect wildlife areas. Prescribed fires or controlled burns actually protect human communities from more dangerous uncontrolled wildfires. They also improve land for endangered and threatened species and actually promote the growth of plants. Many believe that these prescribed fires do more damage than good, conversely, my opinion is that they are wrong.
You’ll be expected to know or be willing to learn how to suppress and extinguish fires with hoses, pumps and additional apparatus. You will also, evacuate fire structures treat victims. Driving and operating emergency vehicles and pump engines, will also have a part in getting a fire science degree. Maintaining the fire fighter equipment, is a little combination of volunteering and fire science degree. Participating in public education is also a very helpful way. The hiring process typically include, a written examination, oral interview, background investigation, drug screening and physical aptitude/agility exam. You’ll also be asked to provide an extensive job history, academic record, credit history, and a list of personal references. Becoming a firefighter is not as hard as it looks. You must meet the basic requirements, typically having corrected 20/20 eyesight, a high school diploma, own a clean criminal record and be at least 18 years old (21 in some agencies). Firefighters not only work for local departments. They may also take jobs with wilderness firefighting agencies, state fire organizations, fire-equipment manufacturers, suppliers and with the construction trades.
