Do you like to build? Do you like a challenge? Do you like to play? Then you need to go to a BEST Robotics competition. BEST Robotics hosts robot-building competitions with different themes each year. This year, the theme is firefighting. BEST stands for Boosting Engineering, Science, and Technology.

BEST Robotics began in 1993 in Sherman, Texas, when two TI engineers (Texas Instruments), Ted Mahler and Steve Marum, were serving as guides for Engineering Day. The two watched a video about high school students making a robot, in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and asked the TI institute if they had permission. The institute agreed, and the first BEST Robotics competition was held in 1993. The competition was open to school …show more content…

Fire technology is the use of technology in fire prevention, fire safety, and the extinguishing of fires. Although useful, fire technology can be and is expensive. It is not yet used widely, although it does come from around the globe. Some examples of the advances in fire technology are firefighting robots. These robots can go into buildings or go over terrain that would take a while for humans without putting lives in danger.

Some examples of current firefighting robots are as follows. The Thermite RS1-T3, which is a robot that shoots out water at an astounding 1,250 gallons per minute! The Thermite was made by Howe and Howe tech and is sold in America. Another example of a firefighting robot is FINE, or First INtelligent Extinguisher. It is a robot that can convert to a handheld, home extinguisher or can automatically put out a fire on its own, normally when someone is away. It also alerts firefighters before it starts to put out the fire.

As you can see, people over the years have made thousands of advancements, yet still have figured out no way to prevent fires completely. So, how do we fix this? I mean, it’s really impossible to prevent natural causes completely, like hurricanes and tornadoes, things that are destructive like fires. So people were thinking, “If we can’t get rid of fires, why not use
