While the sweet aromas of dark and milk chocolate permeated the air, high-pitched screeches and screams could be heard by the people walking in the parking lot. As the sun began to set in Derry township, Pennsylvania, the temperature had started to decrease into the low forties. This was only the beginning of a memorable night for two girls who were trying to the make the most of their trip from California. On Kelly and Natalie’s first day in Pennsylvania, spending the day out with their younger cousin was the plan. Related by sisters, Kelly, 19, and Natalie Duong, 23, paid for three tickets including their cousin’s. Meanwhile, their younger cousin, Julie Tran, rocked back and forth on her heels as she waited in anticipation. The thirteen year-old grew excited as she saw the roller coasters she knew she had to ride.
Earlier that November afternoon, the girls had debated about something recreational they could do for the day that would not leave them with empty wallets. They knew that staying cooped up in the house would be a mentally unhealthy option, especially with excessive time being spent on electronics.
The next morning being Monday, Tran did not have any time in the school week to just be sitting around. She wanted to get out of the house as much

Projects, important events, and homework are some possible causes of stress, especially with students. To avoid overall anxiety that this can cause, people should create schedules for themselves and stay on it regularly. Although procrastination can get the most people, it is better to deal with a situation bit by bit then all at once. Precise time management is the key to getting work done, the easing of stress, and extra time for leisure. Spending this leisure time with family can be the reason for a strong bond among family. This bond is the reason why many families are so supportive and understanding of each
Alleviate family stress to enable the student to function more effectively in school and community
Stress, we all have it in our lives and for some of us it affects us in ways we do not even realise it. This causes me great discomfort as this leads me to not even have the ability to begin my tasks as I am concerned about how I will be able to complete it on time. Once I am able to resolve this predicament I will be confident enough about accomplishing all my tasks and concluding these tasks to my best effort.
Stress is a main aspect of the human condition, because everyone goes through a daily amount of stress, whether the problems come from school, family, even physical activities. The first time I felt a load of stress was earlier this year in fact, on a Thursday in September. I had many assignments due that day, and had a football game for band later as well. There was a reading check for “WHAP”, and the second I had seen the vocab and multiple choice questions my stomach started churning. There was sweat running down my face.... The notes I had took were horrendous, the thought of my French IP Practices the next period did not help either. Even though the day had finished and I did not have to stress over school anymore,
I agree with Kelly McGonigal, not because whatever she said, is true about stress, but I feel that situation in my life. As she said that stress can be the healthier and gives you joy and meaning of a life. For example, I am not sure that this has been with me since I born, but I need stress in order to survive, and studying well because if I don’t have stress than I feel like helpless, or shiftless. Likewise, people need to distinguish between the good and bad stress before looking the result of it. Similarly, this topic is like “ see and think always right for better opportunities and for being a better
Another significant cause of stress is a lot of individuals are suffering from a financial. Some people have a lot of amount of debt more than their income. For example, people should pay for medicals, educations, and bills. For this reason, debt gives rise of tension. Debt is a huge ball of stress (“The Debt-Stress Connection,” n.d.). Also, college students feel anxious about their money. Some scholar reduced their class load due to the money, and the another took a break from the University (Grabmeler, 2015). Financial issues give rise to some students to make challenging selections about their study. In addition, parents worrying about how they would take care of their children. For example, parents must buy food and clothes, paying the
Social life expectations is also a huge stressor, people want to feel the need to be popular and pressured to fit in. Another major source of my stress is financial issues, fortunately my parents are able to provide me with necessary needs like a car, school books, food, home, clothes/shoes and money. At the point where I need be dependent on my own rather than on my parents which causes me a lot of stress. Another major source of my stress is seeing my parents hurt whether it be physically, mentally or emotionally. My parents worked so hard and became successful which inspires me and seeing them hurt stresses me out when i’m unable to do anything. My last source of my stress are certain lifestyle choices. I tend to make poor choices that affect other situations in my life in a negative way. For example, staying up late on a school night or skipping an important event to hang out with friends. Some of my internal factors are being insecure or feeling worried. Feeling insecure on how I look or even how I dress and feeling worried about others opinions or other situations. Other internal factors are being confused with what I’m doing with my life. Some external factors include, school and work. Being overloaded with work causes a huge stress on me along with not sleeping at night or having family issues.
A very important factor of stress is school. School can cause a lot of stress. "One of the greatest sources of pressure is school. Where we are herded like cattle from room to room, chewing on our cud, while the hay of knowledge is force fed to us as we are trying our hardest to gulp it down as more and more is shovelled in"( ).Grades can act upon stress. Students may think that you always need good grades, parents can cause this or even just their own minds. Teens want to get into a good college so they stress. "Stress is created by parental pressure to perform and to stand out among other children. When they can't rise up to that expectation, or during the process of meeting it, children may suffer from frustration, physical stress, aggression, undesirable complexes, and depression"( ). Students who are involved in extra activities, usually develope unfriendliness, jealousy, shyness, and may become loners ( ). "Over scheduling a student's life can put them under stress. A child's in school and after school activities should be carefully arranged to give them some breathing space. Parents may want him to learn music, painting, or be outstanding in a
Whatever that may be, we don’t always have control over the situation. But, sometimes we forget that there is more to life than the overbearing number of hours we spend on school or work. We are too caught up in the stress of school that we are making ourselves mentally ill and forgetting the valuable time that we should cherish with folks (Holinka 301). I am not going to rant about how you should stay away from stress because we know that not all stress is controllable and there are psychological reasons to back it up. But then again, there are some situations of stress that can be controlled and we should do what we can to try to prevent stress due to the underlining health effects and the impact it has on our day to day lives. When I am talking about kinds of stress, I am specifically talking about the stress that is derived from school or work, making it hard to fit everything into our schedule. It makes you feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day to accomplish everything. This is stress that we can control if we want, so that we can enjoy the things that mean the most: spending time with family, creating new friendships, exploring cultures and different parts of the world, and discovering your inner self.
Psychological stress is pressure placed on a person to adapt, cope, or adjust to a situation (Rathus, 2016, p.284). The result of prolonged stress can affect a person’s mood, pleasure experience, and have harmful effects on physical health (Rathus, 2016, p.284). Society in the twenty first century places high demands on people. Technology makes it very difficult to separate work life, school life, and home life. Today, society places a high value on a busy lifestyle for individuals. For example, many places of business are open twenty-four hours a day. In addition to societal pressures, attending a university adds to the stressors a person may experience. Going to school not only includes classroom time but it also includes homework,
Keeping a personal schedule or calendar can assist in prioritizing important dates, deadlines, and goals (Martinez Tucker, 2002). Asking for assistance from friends, family, and neighbors can also provide support. Finally, engaging in various stress relieving activities may prevent students from feeling overwhelmed.
The workplace and the school are very stressful environments. Deadlines are one major cause of Work/Study Related Stress. There are a couple of other factors
Finding out what stresses us, isn’t always easy as there is no particular reason at times. The sources aren’t always obvious. Sometimes it’s the nonstop arrival of the bills, we need more hours in the day or small issues that we might have with our friends and families. Or it is Our thoughts, behaviors and certain feelings. Whatever it is, we have control over them and we need to take charge of our lives. First step is to identify what is stressing us. It is not apparent and sometimes hard to figure. At times we ourselves might know the reason. As human beings, we make excuses and assume stress is temporary at times. But what we don’t realize is that we let it become an integral part of our lives. At times we blame our stress on others and external events. But we need to work on finding the root cause in order to address the situation.
For current and up coming high school/ college students stress will become a much larger problem. This is why it is important to me to fully understand the true problems that stress can cause, how to prevent it, and how to lessen it. This is so I can become a better student and for my future kids, nieces, and nephews so I can teach them how to keep their life under control.
Newth (2011) claims that modern day stress seems to be more widespread than ever causing interference with human intellect, emotional and interpersonal functioning. Therefore; I suggest that students will encounter stress and it will impact their academic performance. In this fast pace and performance driven society each organization needs well performing people. The only way we will know what people require to become productive and less stressed is to explore topics as my research question. The topic
Time management is a major way to reduce stress. If you can keep a schedule of the things you need to do and when you have to do them, this can open time for yourself. Try to focus on the important task and then do the little things. (3.) Many stress experts suggest that you begin your fight against stress by defining your values. (4.) Don’t think that everything has to be perfect. If you are a perfectionist you fuel a variety of stress-producing qualities. (4.)
