If it is not right to commit first degree murder then why should it be okay for a mother along with the help of her doctor to do so? This seems to be one question that does not run through the minds of young couples when having an abortion. First degree murder is having the ability to plan ahead and act on committing murder. It is mostly caused because of anger or frustration against the person and you are intentionally going to end their life to gain some sort of relief or revenge. The criminal code of Canada states that Murder is first degree murder when it is planned and deliberate. (criminal code of canada). Abortions are the same because someone is planning to take away life because they are unable to face the consequences for their actions. Dusting off the life of a child just because it wasn’t brought into the world yet does not mean he/she has little rights compared to a grown human being. …show more content…
It is not fair that the child has no say in this because he/she can not communicate with the outside world and even if he/she were to do so, they would never get a chance. The act of an abortion totally contradicts Canada’s legal rights that Everyone has the right to life… not to be subjected to any cruel and unusual treatment or punishment (canadian charter of rights). An unborn child should not receive any kind of cruel treatment, in this case death. It has life and the law states that everyone should have the right to live, so if abortions do not fall under that category then the law is not benefiting any of us at
The life of the mother is more important than the foetus if she is in
The death penalty also known as capital punishment “is a government sanctioned punishment whereby a person is put to death for a crime.” (Kronenwetter 2001) The death penalty has been and continues to be a topic of debate in Canada and America. In Canada it was formally abolished but in America the death penalty still stands in some states. First degree murder, treason, and espionage are some of the crimes punishable by death in the U.S. Many believe that capital punishment should be reinstated in Canada and others are against it. Although there is controversy about bringing capital punishment back the House of Commons will not allow it. This essay will examine this topic by examining the arguments in favour of the death penalty
When a women is about to go through the procedure of an abortion; what are they practically doing? They are taking the life of a child that can’t defend for him/herself. “Abortion is akin to murder as it is the act of taking human life” In the United States it’s the same but you won’t get in trouble when you abort your kid, but you go to court
Since Parliament has jurisdiction to protect the child within the womb, it cannot make abortion a right. However, the fact that this was matter was taken to Canada’s highest court, and 5-2 decision was made is slowly leading to more freedom of their own body for women.
Secondly, there may be an objectification to this premise. If everyone has a right to life, and an equal right to life, wouldn’t it be unjust to kill the innocent fetus? The mother, and a doctor, would essentially be committing murder of an innocent by taking it’s right to life away, even if it just depriving it of something it needs. Even if the pregnancy were to put strain on the mother or harm her in some way, or even cause her death. Wouldn’t it be better to let someone die, rather than murder an innocent? In most modern societies, killing an innocent is always impermissible. Innocent people do not deserve to die, so this premise alone could make getting an abortion impermissible. Another objectification would be since the mother and the fetus have an arguably equal right to life, how do you choose who gets to live and who gets to die? Most pro-life supporters would argue that you can’t choose and nature has to take its course and therefore, abortion would not be permissible.
There are many different forms of execution in the United States, such as electrocution, lethal injection, lethal gas, hanging, and firing squad. All of which should stay illegal in Canada. It is extremely inhumane to put someone’s life away to demonstrate the power of the law. Even good people make mistakes and deserve a second chance. With the death penalty there is no second chance. Also it doesn’t reduce crime rate, in fact it’s a crime itself, and encourages violence. It is also very expensive to administer the death penalty, it’s about the same amount of money it would cost to keep an inmate in jail for life.
Every woman should have their own personal choice on if they wish to abort their child or not, so if they choose to do so, people shouldn't be calling it murder. Some pregnancies come as a shock which could mean that they as a person might not be ready to be a parent, especially knowing that their child is going to have Down syndrome. Knowing that your child is going to be born with Down syndrome could be quite stressful for some women as it's quite a big responsibility to have, looking after a child has a big responsibility anyway, but just think how hard it would be if the child was to have something mentally wrong with them. Therefore women, as individuals, should have their own right on whether they want to abort their child or not.
Did you know 80% of women abort their kid if they have down syndrome? Abortion is where they end the baby’s life well it is still in the womb. Abortion has been an issue since the 1960’s and continues to grow today. About 1/4 of pregnancies end in abortion and 1/3 of americans before the age of 45 have gotten an abortion. ( (Guttmacher.) Abortion should be illegal considering the reasons for it, ethics and medical effects.
Many would argue that the mother could be a rape victim, or that it was just a mistake that she became pregnant, so it is unfair that she should be obligated to have the child. Of course, I sympathize with the rape victim and believe what happen to her is unfair and cruel, but I do not believe that killing the baby would be the solution. From the article in our reading by Judith Jarvis Thomson, A Defense of Abortion, she says: “Every person has a right to life. So the fetus has a right to life. No doubt the mother has a right to decide what shall happen in and to her body; everyone would grant that. But surely a person's right to life is stronger and more stringent than the mother's right to decide what happens in and to her body, and so outweighs it. So the fetus may not be killed; an abortion may not be performed.” (Judith Jarvis Thomson, A Defense of Abortion). It’s as if the reason for the author saying that the abortion is not to be performed is due to the fact that the baby’s life is important or sacred. What right do we have to take an innocent, sacred life with no other gain then to prevent a “possible” harm to the mother or others, which differs from the previous paragraph’s examples to the extent that it was to absolutely prevent harm or
Whereas those that are against abortion believe that abortion is against God’s law in the Bible, in the Bible one of the ten commandments is “thou shall not kill” meaning that we are to value human life and treat every person with the dignity befitting someone made in the image of God. When we fail to listen to God on this point, there are consequences - more death, more killing, more inhumanity to man. When we listen to him, things are better for everyone. Abortion is murder; it is the killing of an unborn baby. In the 21st century, regular people are not allowed to go out and just murder someone for no reason, so why should doctors be allowed to murder unborn babies? This is a question that is often argued a lot by those that are against abortion. According to John C. Willke, president of the National Right to Life Committee, “at the union of sperm and ovum there exists a living, single-celled, complete human being.” Therefore according to what John C. Willke says abortion at any stage of pregnancy is the
Many Americans or even others around the world that believe abortion is murder. Abortion is so much like murder as it is killing someone, it is the defiance of the community to agree with the sanity of a human life. There is no place on earth where someone does not get charged for harming someone intentionally or taking the life of someone, abortion is no different. For example, if someone picked up a knife and stabbed another human being and ends up killing them. It is similar to a process of abortion occurs like when the physician uses his/her utensils to take out the fetus. That person will get charged for killing that person, why wouldn’t a woman get charged for killing her own unborn child? It may seem like the physician is doing all the “crime” but it is under the mother 's responsibility because of her decision to have the abortion. People say that the fetus has no idea of
Abortion is the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy that is often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy. As life begins at conception, unborn babies are human beings and thus have the right to life. The federal Unborn Victim Of Violence Act that was made to protect unborn babies from murder states that anybody intentionally killing an unborn baby should be punished for killing a human being. Abortion is a murder because it is taking away someone’s life. Even though the baby isn’t born yet, the fetus in the mother’s womb still feels pain while being aborted. No person, not even a mother, has the right to hurt someone. To keep a child, who can’t even speak, from growing and from living is a murder.
Abortion is the ending of pregnancy before birth and is morally wrong. An abortion results in the death of an embryo or a fetus. Abortion destroys the lives of helpless, innocent children and is illegal in many countries. By aborting these unborn infants, humans are hurting themselves; they are not allowing themselves to meet these new identities and unique personalities. Abortion is very simply wrong. Everyone is raised knowing the difference between right and wrong. Murder is wrong, so why is not abortion? People argue that it is not murder if the child is unborn. Abortion is murder since the fetus being destroyed is living, breathing and moving. Why is it that if an infant is destroyed a month before the birth, there is no problem,
Abortions should be illegal because they are murder. The definition of Abortion is “a medical procured used to terminate a pregnancy and results in the death of the fetus, or embryo” (Webster, n.d.). The definition of murder is” the crime of deliberate killing of a human” (Webster, n.d.). So there for getting an abortion is logically murder. Science has proven that the life of a human begins at conception, so when a surgeon performs an abortion it should be considered murder! If everyone else who commits murder goes to jail, then why should not the doctors who perform the life ending procedure? Or the mother that ok’s the procedure? They are doing the same thing as the person on the street who just shot and killed someone. They are both ending a human life and both should face the same consequences.
Abortion is not only a woman's right, it is a woman's choice. Allowing abortion to e legal is immoral. A pre-born child is given the status of a product of pregnancy and never seen as the miracle only a woman can create. Compassion for the small one is drowned out under a demand for rights, but what about the rights for the unborn.
