In my life I’ve been given many opportunities in which I’ve had to make challenging decisions. I’ve often chose to persevere and overcome the challenges than to quit. In the first semester of grade twelve I had to overcome challenging academic choices. I had two unit tests and an Independent Study Unit presentation all in the same day. I did not look at the situation in a problematic way, I choice to approach the problem in a positive way to overcome the challenges. I used this situation as an opportunity to use my time management skills and my work habits effetely. I did not just have to manage my time around my upcoming unit tests and presentation but along with basketball practices and games that I had in the same week. I used this challenge
In my first quarter, I was faced with many difficulties. As a mature student, I had been away from the academic setting for about 17 years, reentering a scholastic atmosphere was a challenge. As a home-schooled student, I faced such challenges as how to function within a structured classroom environment, how to study with deadlines in mind and how to work within a group project setting. Learning to balance the need to study while working was also a challenge.
I have excelled at every subject, achieving various honors throughout my years at Bellefonte. I have challenged myself greatly by taking various engineering classes at the high school, so that I can see what is to come in my future. These courses are designed to push students outside of the normal classroom routine, making me focus on real world applications of the material. In these courses, and all of my schoolwork I strive for perfection, pushing myself to my limits to achieve it. When faced with challenges I strive to overcome them in any means necessary. I strive to have challenges in my schoolwork, so that I can push myself to solve them. I do not back away from any challenge, rather I seek for them to show myself, and others what is
One strategy that I have used consecutively in the previous years when selecting an independent study unit text was asking for suggestions from my peers who have had their English course before me. I personally prefer listening to other’s experiences to get an idea of what I should do, so I asked about which novel they have read and if they enjoyed it. I also asked them if they could choose another novel, which one would they have chosen instead of the one they read and if those novels would suite my style of reading. Not only did I ask my friends, I also asked my teachers who were teaching that course, if I should choose one book over the other. My thought process at the time was asking myself repetitively if I should choose the novel my
5. Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have taken to overcome this challenge. How has this challenge affected your academic achievement?
My greatest example of challenge came from my engagement in Eaton Girl’s Basketball. I have always played basketball since before I can remember so it was no surprise when I decided to play as a freshman. Two years prior to my freshman year, I had torn my ACL, this had changed the way my knees functioned and provided me with several obstacles from that point forward. I learned to deal with this and made the decision to continue playing. Just before my sophomore year, at a summer camp, I twisted my knee and tore my ACL yet again, this time on the opposite leg. I missed out on my sophomore season but stayed on as a manager. I attended every practice, traveled with the team, and kept statistics during games.
As a high school student, I live a very busy life. The amount of assignments I have to do require me to stay healthy as well as manage my time wisely. Once, I went to Grand River Hospital because I sprained my ankle during a basketball game. I arrived at the hospital at 10am and waited three hours for a doctor. This experience with the inefficiency of the Healthcare System helped me to understand the severity of the issue, which made me determined to support the idea of reform. Specifically, it was because of the precious time I sacrificed for the service. Instead of spending three hours waiting in the hospital, I could use them to do homework, read books and practice violin. The fact that I couldn’t use this time to accomplish these tasks meant the necessaries for me to finish them using time planned for other commitments. As a result, I would become more stressful due to the increase of difficulties to complete the tasks in a shortened time
With vivid images of failure in my mind, I pushed myself harder than ever before with one goal in mind: to be the best that I could be. Driven not by a fear of failure, but of not being able to make the most out of my life, I was able to achieve both first rate grades and personal pride in my work. Without my resolution to succeed, I would never have stepped outside my comfort zone and gained both the knowledge and experience that accompanies.
Through out my life I struggle with academics, I had no one to guide me. Everything I do is from learning from my mistakes. It was a struggle, but with each struggle there’s a lesson to learn. Despite struggling academically, due to environmental circumstances, my parent’s struggle and instilled values empowered me to work hard to my best abilities. As I sit here writing this statement, I planned to write about my academics. But honestly, I wanted to take a detour from the traditional paper talking about my academic abilities. I want to write about the journey that I took to get where I am, and how it crafts my characteristics.
I have known for years that some things come difficult to me. It has been a learning experience to succeed in controlling this and I feel I have done very well in doing so. I can be a role model for people who think they can’t achieve this. I know first hand how hard it is and how dedicated you have to be in school. I want to help students like

Struggling throughout the process of discovering myself and becoming whom I want to be. Setting aside a plan to be successful in all I want to do, time takes on a major role. Embarking on this school and work process as a nontraditional student having no stability. Without any stability stressing may occur and
During life, we all experience various obstacles. Everyone copes with these obstacles in different ways. The way that someone looks at, and handles stressful situations, is one of the ways of defining resilience (Harrington, 2012). One of these obstacles that many students have to overcome is the ability to juggle their jobs, families, and school. This can be a very daunting task.
We are high school students and that means that the sense of urgency to strive for and to achieve personal success is now. With this urgency comes the expectation of having to persevere. This year has not been as easy one for us as a school body. We have been
Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have taken to overcome this challenge. How has this challenge affected your academic achievement?
Throughout my educational experience, I have endured countless hardships that made progress difficult at times. Although it was a struggle through my strong dedication to education, I have also earned a list of achievements for my hard work. These experiences from, failing two of my English classes, to excelling tremendously in mathematics, have molded me into the type of student I am today. I am a student with a growth mindset and, an optimistic outlook on education and, the bright future ahead. I now understand the impact that a positive mindset can have on your future. I am definitely proud of the student I have become. I feel like my journey is unique, but is also very relatable.
