Most importantly, University of Wisconsin-Madison appeals to me for its diversity of ways to learn. I am intrigued by First-Year Interest Groups(FIGs), Service Learning, the math department and the UW-Madison Software Development Club. The First-Year Interest Groups encourage the exploration of common themes, which has become a course in our high school, called colloquy. In colloquy, we have to read lots of materials about a certain social issue, discuss the issue, and write an essay about it. The process of exploring things beyond the border of subjects has always excited me, and I really want to continue such explorations in college. Different from colloquy, however, the First-Year Interest Groups provide unique views on the themes as participants are from different cultures. Additionally, most colloquy topics are in the field of humanity and there is not too much emphasis on connections of subjects. I would …show more content…
One of my plans in the university is to teach children about geometry and arts. I have always used graphing software to create graphs and combine them into a beautiful image during high school. And I want to impart my passion about mathematical arts to more children, making them realize the beauty of math. The Service Learning program makes my plan plausible in two ways: peer guidance from advisors and requests of presentation. As for professional guidance, I need an advisor to tell me what courses I should take in art so that I am eligible to teach children about art stuffs. Requests of presentation are also important to me: I have never taught any students so I need a presentation to know basic tactics to teach children. In general, the Service Learning program has provided sufficient supports (peer guidance and requests of presentation) to help me accomplish my goal about teaching children the beauty of
Classes like Sacred Places, a history of art class, Greek Mythology, and Classical Music--classes which are so disparate from my own major--have inculcated a different perspective and allowed me to interact with many different people. Being able to think differently has allowed me to think about problems from a different point of view and has helped me produce innovative solutions. U-M SPH community is extremely diverse and students who are part of this community come from a plethora of different academic backgrounds. I can bring a unique perspective to this community because I have taken many classes outside my major, consequently, I can easily connect and collaborate with other students. Moreover, I can also understand different thought processes that this diverse community possesses because I have had experience working with students from all academic backgrounds during my time as an undergraduate. The MHSA program consists of numerous team projects and, hence, being able to understand how my team members think would lead to an increase in the team’s productivity. Lastly, working as a part of a research team has also given me the experience of a team environment and this will be significant during the program.
5. I was really interested in the National Art Education Association, this is an organization that helps and assists teacher who choose to teach through visual arts. There are workshops, videos, lesson plans and curriculum all designed and ready for you. This organization helps teachers who want to promote art education, advancing the teachers knowledge in the arts, and is a place for teachers to stay connected to other professionals with the same teaching techniques. For a first year teacher the membership is $85.00, but with this includes: access to outstanding lessons, peer-reviewed for quality, relevance, and rigor through the Instructional Resources Gallery, free
The definition of an interest group is any organization that actively seeks to influence public policy (Patterson, 2013). The two types of interest groups that influence the public are economic groups and citizens’ groups.
Interest groups in the United States have many strengths to push for their interests onto the congress men. Two powerful influences in which they have the most ability is to persuade gongress their concerns andt hat is interestgroups insider tactics and outsider tactics. Insider tactics are key tactic for interest groups to be able meet congressmen, they do they do that by helping congressmen, such as helping with legislartion coahilations, drafts legilatures, and organizing hearings. Also they also could help with writing rules and legislation. The reason why a congressmen would allow for such presence because nterest groups usually focus on a particular sector or interest at which is their primary focus and could help a congress men if they not familiar with the issue. Their representatives and advisory groupsusually will get a reaction to their proposals. The other powerfull tool at which interest groups have towards influencing congress is their outsider tactics. Outsider tactics is when intersest groups use media and public opinion to get their message across also publim mobilization. This imposses pressure on congrsess to listen to the interest group. One major example used in our textbook was used by the interest group for autodeals. Which used the mobilization of public support to help the small buisnesses. The outsider tactics are very key to a interest group howver the major power and influence comes from the money that keep the group running, that is also its
Coming from a small town on the east coast, I would have never expected to fall in love with such a large and diverse college like the University of Michigan. The upbeat atmosphere of Ann Arbor alone was enticing enough before I even saw the actual campus. Upon visiting, I quickly realized the University of Michigan was a place I would not mind spending my next couple of years. From the countless students all around to the wide variety of shops in town, Ann Arbor seemed like a lively and exciting place to spend my college experience. While walking through the campus, I was continuously amazed by the large intricate buildings surrounding me. Some of my favorites included the Law Library, the College of LSA and the Michigan Union. While I do not plan on attending it, the Ross School of Business was also an incredible
When I first started attending the James Madison project in January, I was immediately excited as I was learning things at a deeper level than I had known. In my
Before coming to James Madison University I had no clue what I wanted to get involved in. Whether it was a club sport, business related group, or a social fraternity I just wanted to be apart of something that was bigger than myself. At the beginning of the school year I looked into tryouts for club baseball, the Madison Investment Fund and rush schedules for fraternities on campus. I quickly found out that club baseball wasn’t for me, at least for my freshman year. I then asked around about MIF and got the sense that you needed a very heavy Economics background and that it was very challenging to be accepted as a freshman. MIF is something I hope to get involved in next fall. In the back of my head I always knew that a social fraternity was what
Teaching might even be the greatest of the arts since the medium is the human mind and spirit.” During my past career as an art teacher at Intel Academy, introducing and demonstrating aesthetic techniques and materials have thrilled me as much as completing an art piece. Through workshops and demonstrations, I learned how to communicate and suggest better ways of developing their ideas and expressions. Some children had difficulties encountering art due to their behavioral problems; however, respecting their accomplishments and encouraging their process of following the curriculum became a part of the solution. My decision to apply to masters program in art education was pursued as I faced these
Swarthmore's unique approach to liberal arts is appealing. The small campus size reminds me of exploring my current college campus. Reviews from current students have nearly always reported a close knit community backed by a mutual respect for other's viewpoints. Professors there, from multiple videos I have seen, put in extra work to ensure their students understand the material and are not merely memorizing. One featured a teacher in a room of no more than 6 students, debating. I would love to learn persuasion through debate.
Citizen groups simply composed of concerned individuals work to influence policies and impose governmental change for the betterment of society and their fellow citizens. These groups aim to influence change for the good of the individual and of all, and, in a free-association fashion, they are not solely focused on the interests of a business or organization like many interest groups. Interest groups may be supported by any number of businesses or organizations driven toward the success of their respective industry or business. Citizen groups, on the other hand, band together to fight for a common goal that, ideally, will have a beneficial and lasting impact on all citizens.
American Association of Retired Persons:AARP is a large organization and spent $9,900,000 lobbying in 2012. The AARP only donates to individuals, not parties. They choose to do this technique because it is the most effective technique and their large size
A gathering of individuals that tries to impact open strategy on the premise of a specific regular intrigue or concern called interest group. When people get disturbance, they are more likely going to create new form of interest group. We also did the same thing when our college increased our tuition cost. We have created the group which we call National Organization of Collegiate American Students Needing Help (NOCASH). Our motive was to persuade the congress, college administration or board of the college member to reduce our tuition cost, so we can easily afford our tuition fee. We understand we do have a lot of obstacles to achieve this goal, especially when we are grass root interest group. We know we cannot hire special lobbyist to lobby
“Interest groups are no less a threat than they are an expression of freedom” (Berry, 1984).
Apart from the class size, the campus itself is another reason I really think UWGB is great for me. Green Bay has so many separate building that serve their own individual purpose from the library, to the recreational center, and the auditoriums, into the ever famous tunnels beneath the campus. Not only do you have subject specific building but you have this network or tunnels to better aid the students in their commute to their classes in the frigged weather of the Wisconsin winter. This is not only a luxury but a real deal maker for me because it ensure that I'll be able to get to my classes on time, ready to learn instead of barging in late and unprepared. These are just some of the reason I feel like UW Green Bay would be a perfect fit for me on my journey to bettering my education.
Limits cannot be placed on the amount of money companies and groups spend on lobbying in Texas because this money is not coming from the government or from taxes. This money comes from companies and groups who voluntarily chose to fund lobbyist agendas or pay for lobbying on their behalf. It is very difficult to control how much a group can “donate” to a cause or how much they spend lobbying without angering lobbyists or the companies who pay the lobbyists. If individuals choose to set aside millions of dollars to fund lobbyists, that is their own prerogative. Lobbyists are often seeking “face time” with legislators, which makes “the spending worthwhile from the lobbyists’ standpoint” (Ramsey). The
