I am currently finishing my junior year at Flagler College. This summer will be my last chance to intern as an undergraduate. I want this internship to be at CSUMB, with Dr. Steve Moore. Dr. Moore’s interest in studying marine biology through innovative methods is the perfect fit for me. I am interested in learning how to use new technologies to better understand and protect the marine environment. I want to study at Monterey Bay because the marine science department is much larger than that of my college. Along with having more equipped laboratories and work areas. The Ecosystem Electronics Lab has numerous resources that do not exist at my college. At Flagler College, there are only two laboratories and a small molecular room. In years past,
Over the past year, I have completely fallen in love with my new home here at Western Carolina University. I am so proud to be a part of such an incredible community with amazing staff and students. Next year, I will be continuing my studies at Western, taking courses for my chosen major: nutrition and dietetics.
I have been a part of JROTC for the past four years of my high school career. During my time in the program, I gained more self-confidence and was able to venture out of my comfort zone, which allowed me to join numerous clubs and organizations throughout my high school career. The clubs include the Chess Club for one year, the Environmental Club and AFJROTC Honor Guard team for two years, and Science Olympiad all my four years of high school. The organizations include the National Technical Honor Society for two years and National Honor Society for two years as well and voted Vice President.
The reason I have graced you with my letter is to convince you why I am worthy of a scholarship and to tell you about my goals in life.
My desire is to attend Messiah College so that I may follow my academic passion while glorifying God. Initially, learning a second language was merely a requirement. However hearing Mandarin Chinese for the first time, I reveled in the melodic sound of the language and began to embrace the culture of the country. I began studying Mandarin Chinese in the eighth grade. The following year, I was blessed with the opportunity to take an Intensive Mandarin Chinese class from Howard Community College during my summer break. There I learned how to perform Taiji, paint bamboo, and write Chinese calligraphy with a brush. Of all of these intriguing activities, Taiji was my favorite. Taiji was not only therapeutic for me, but it was also exercise. I enjoyed the routine so much that I eventually memorized the routine and led the class in the graduation performance.
I need to thank you for teaching a great class. Your lectures on resumes and interviews were very helpful for me. So helpful that your in-class workshop and your own personal feedback got me a paid internship with the Disney College Program. I just found out today that I was accepted into the Spring program! So for the next 6 months (Feb-July) I'll be interning at Disneyland; we all got to start somewhere.
Furthering my education at Fairmont State University is the best decision I have made. I started college at West Virginia University and it was a disaster for me. So, I say this with sincerity, being a member of Fairmont State University is an honor. The instructors here care and make me feel valued, they are willing to go that extra mile for any student that would need it. The professional relationships I have here, are essential to me and the make me a very determined individual. I believe I am a prime example of hard work and I am paving the way for success, proving I deserve consideration for scholarships.
My name is Gertrude but most people call me Gertie. I am originally from Ghana, West Africa. Both my parents are also from Ghana. I spent quite some time in Africa. I am a very proud African. Almost eighteen years ago, I came into a world of love and laughter. I was the first child, and the primary focus of my entire nuclear family. I grew up with opportunities for learning spiritual growth in the Christian world, secure in thought and knowing that I was free from fear, loved and confident that my world was very perfect. I am now a senior in high school. Everyone can agree that I am a good student and that I like to keep my grades consistent. My favorite subjects are math and science. English is not really my thing mainly because I hate writing. I hope to possibly enter a four year college because my goal is to study these subjects in the near future and to become a successful physical therapist or a heart surgeon.
Attending Vassar College has always been a firm academic dream of mine, which dates back to a field trip in the second grade. During my visit, I was thoroughly captivated by the vivid scenery and dynamic life style exemplified by this prestigious institution. From the intricate architecture to the artistic displays, there wasn’t a single aspect that failed to mesmerize my eight year old self. Now that I have embraced my decision to pursue liberal arts, it is time to make this dream of mine a reality.
My internship placement is a non-profit organization that provides a comprehensive range of programs to address and end intimate partner violence. During the week I split my time between two locations; the main building in downtown Boston, and at an 18-month long transitional living program for young women (ages 15-21) who are either pregnant or parenting. The transitional living program, that I will refer to as ABC, is a house that can accommodate up to 8 moms and 13 children at any given time. The majority of the young women who are currently guests of ABC have been living there for at least 6-8 months, if not longer. Only 2 of the 8 women have moved in within the last 6 months.
My experience interning in Belize with ROWKids this summer was incredible. When looking back over my time there, it is challenging to accurately summarize the experience, but here is an overall view of what I did there.
I am applying to the junior year internship program for multiple reasons. All my life I have always wanted to have a career in the medical field. In the first grade, I had to pick a career and draw a self-portrait. I drew myself as a nurse with a stethoscope. My mom, an RN, has been one of the greatest influences in my life.
College interns from The University of Alabama stand at the entrance of Church of the Highlands waving posters, passing out free coffee and welcoming people with excitement as they walk through the church doors.
All of my life, I have wanted to be a doctor, and the summer program offered by Wagner College is the perfect way for me to spend a portion of my summer. I am the youngest of three children, and my mother is divorced and has been raising us on her own for many years. My mom has always encouraged each of us to aim high and dream big, and that’s exactly what I have done. I have enjoyed science and math classes the most compared to other subjects and have excelled in both subjects as far back as I can remember. Currently, I am taking Honors Chemistry and advanced math, and I have really enjoyed both classes this year because the content is interesting and complex.
This summer I am interning at Carmen and Muss P.L.L.C. a small law firm here in Washington D.C. It is a real estate law firm run by member Mindy Carmen. She started her own law firm in the private sector working with government contracts after years of working in the public sector in various parts of the federal government. Over the past few weeks working in the office I have gotten the opportunity to grow closer and learn a lot from Mindy. Who is also my internship supervisor. In my internship I work with her and her assistant, Marissa, a current law student at George Washington.
Throughout the course of my internship at Primerica, I met a lot of people and learn great things. When I just started, I was uncertain if the internship was right for me. The company primary focus is life insurance, which I had little knowledge in. It also requires persistence and effective communication in order to build and work in a team and find clients to do business with. I was confident in my persistency, but not in communication. However, my team reassured me that as long as I have the will to learn and be coachable, everything will be fine. I believed in them and used it as a motivation to push myself out of my comfort zone to achieve my goals.
