For years now the Florida Panther has been listed on the endangered species list. Most people know of this fact, however; they do not know why. As with every other animal on the endangered species list, there are several factors that can possibly place these animals on this list. The Florida Panther is on the endangered species list due to car interactions, a growing human population, and substantial land developments, however; there are several precautions that one can take to help protect this animal.
People do not realize this but there are several panthers killed from car accidents. While panthers are large animals, they are hard to see. This is part of the reason why so many of them are killed by cars. Studies show that in 2012 seventeen panthers died due to “vehicular trauma” (Allen, pg. 11). Then in 2013 another 18 panthers were killed by cars (Allen, pg. 11). There are several

As the human population is increasing, Florida Panthers are decreasing. In the past, Native Americans would kill panthers for their coat, teeth, meat, and for medical uses (Alderson, pg. 23). There have also been several human-panther encounters where humans have tried to kill the panther. It is noted that panthers never try to come after individuals (Alderson, pg. 18). However; individuals still feel as if they are in danger when they are in contact with a panther. People also feel the need to harass and mess with Florida Panthers. With an increasing population, there are more people harming these animals. There have been several actions taken to prevent these occurrences from reoccurring. To avoid the amount of panthers being killed by humans there is laws in place that punishes people that bother, hurt, wound, agitate, or eradicate Florida Panthers (Alvarez, pg. 198). When an individual sees a panther they should not harm it; instead they should admire its
There have been purchases of lands that are becoming protected for habitat space, as well as the large scale recoveries of forests that were devastated and ravaged due to over logging. The recovery of our forests will allow for an increase in the population of prey for these panthers and allow a flourishing ecosystem to help them. Public opinion has also changed. From being scared of them and killing them, people are now aware of the potential that this species could go extinct and have made efforts towards wildlife conservation and more legal protection that is backed by the Endangered Species Act. Furthermore, The Florida Panther Recovery Team has continued to work hard in preservation efforts as well as being able to now correctly assess habitats that are safe and productive for the Florida Panther to once again grow in. Unfortunately, only about 11% of reintroductions end in the species successfully recreating and increasing in numbers. Increases in technology is also however helping this team accurately track and study the patterns of the Panther in hopes of being able to find ways in to increase the odds of the species surviving once it is reintroduced into an
Creamy carrion, pizza barf, decomposing lemon wedges, and water-logged toast crusts; sounds like the typical garbage can. Would anyone believe that these phrases apply to a run-down restaurant in the middle of Florida? Barbara Ehrenreich goes undercover at a local fast food diner known as Jerry’s to investigate life as a blue-collar laborer, serving to customers arriving in “human waves” (Ehrenreich 180). It is throughout her journey working for both Jerry’s and a factory known as Hearthside that she learns the difficulties faced with minimum wage and severe working conditions, and how the career you pursue and the environment that the career puts you in can change you. However, the population of alligators in Louisiana was not always as booming as it is today. The alligator was sometimes closed due to the overpopulation of alligators in previous years. In fact, the alligator was listed on the Endangered Species Act in 1967. By 1974, the alligator population had greatly increased, therefore, it was successfully petitioned and taken off of the Endangered Species Act.
To conclude, the FWC (Florida Wildlife Conservation Commission) also wants to mind people that any exotic pet should never be released into the Florida waters, or land. People need to realize that when you own an exotic animal and don't want the responsibility of caring for it anymore, you need to take it to an animal shelter or a good owner that has the ability and supplies to fill their needs. Letting them go, into the wild could be detrimental to other animals or plants in the
Being in the middle of high school, I am thinking about my future more than ever now. I have made mostly A’s and B’s all of my life, so I will probably have the chance to go to a good college if I choose to do so. This decision will be one of the biggest decisions of my life, and I will need to put much thought and research into this decision. Early in my life, I began going to Clemson University football, baseball, and soccer games. For this reason, I am now a big Clemson fan, and I hope to go there for my college career. Another college I am interested in is Furman University. I have grown up most of my life living on the outskirts of Furman, and I have also been to many sports
A Panther defensive lineman should have ambition. You must fight to win every play. Failure is not an option! YOU are responsible for putting doubt in the minds of our opponents!
The recovery strategy for the Florida Panther is to maintain, restore and expand the panther population and their
Tom Logan who is chief of wildlife research for the Florida Game and Freshwater Fish Commission stated that civilization is the main threat to the survival of the panther." The panthers are being wiped out along with their homeland that is being surrounded by new and upcoming developments. Specifically, the highway is the biggest threat to the Florida panther. Nine panthers have been killed in the last eight years. Plans to complete Interstate - 75 by making it a two-lane toll road called "Alligator Alley" were put on hold because of the community's concern for the panther.

-Dan failed to fully utilize high profile networks of Scott and Henry, who were both graduates of an Ivy League School (Did Scott graduate from Ivy League School?). Also, Dan did not try to reach out to his network he established while he was buying and selling airplanes. Even if there was no one interested in their direct network, perhaps someone in their network knew someone who might be interested. Scott later contacted his 100 alumni later but rather passively; instead of calling to actively initiate a conversation, he mailed out information.
Animals are an important and valued part of many families and cultures. In many households, animals are considered members of the family, receive Christmas and birthday presents, and are cared for just as a human child would be. Opposition to animal cruelty has even become a sort of universal value in American culture(Kordzek 604). But animals are uniquely vulnerable to abuse, and despite this they still do not receive much needed protection from the law. The penalties for animal cruelty are not frequently severe enough to even deter one from harming an animal. This is dangerous not only for animals, but for human beings too. Animal cruelty and domestic violence have been proven to correlate in countless ways, and recognizing animal cruelty as a serious criminal offense and a form of domestic violence would serve to protect both animals and human beings from needless acts of violence. Instituting stiffer criminal penalties for animal cruelty and increasing the protective measures for victims of abuse is necessary to further the protection of both animals and human beings.
People need to be aware of what happens in nature and learn that removing wildlife from their homes is never the answer. People also need to learn that having anthropocentric views can be very harmful. For example, seeing a dog show its teeth at you could be taken as a smile, which would lead to you approach the animal, when it is a fear grimace, which should tell you to stop what you’re doing and slowly back away. Although the osprey situation isn’t a matter of personal safety, it is still a good opportunity to help spread the word.
