Flowers For Algernon: Book vs Movie Essay Most people say that the book is better than the book. Well not for "Flowers For Algernon". "Flowers For Algernon" is a great story with an exciting plot and interesting characters. But, the story is suited for the big screen more than a book. The movie is better than the book because the movie is easier to understand, the movie is more realistic, and the movie portrayed characters better. The movie is a lot easier to comprehend. It is easier to comprehend because people say words instead of the reader having to sound out a difficult or long word. For some readers it is easier to understand a word if they are told how to correctly say it.Whereas if they sounded it out and said the word incorrectly, they would have to relearn the word because they have been mispronouncing it the whole time. Another reason to why the movie is easier to comprehend is that the spectator can guess the meaning of the word by listening to the tone of the speaker. Another argument that could be made is that the movie is more realisitic. This leads us to our next topic. …show more content…
Since the movie was in third person the spectators were able to look at the other characters to infer what they were thinking or feeling. But in the book everything was centered around Charlie, which made it difficult to see what others were thinking besides what Charlie thought of them. Another thing that makes the movie more realistic is that Charlie works in a bakery instead of a factory. Why would some mentally challenged, like Charlie, be working at a place where there are big machines that he could get hurt by? These things make the movie more realistic than the book. The last reason why the movie is better is that the movie represents the characters
Finally there are lots of differences between the book and the movie. They also show that the movie was a lot weaker then then the book. I can see the movies aren't always better than the books. The books go more into detail than the movie. I enjoined the movie because it is more visual. The book was a little
Many people may agree that the movie was better, but personally, i think the book was better. The book let your imagination go wild, but the movie just held your imagination back by showing you the scene on a screen. Unlike the movie, the book gave a more vivid description of “The Tell Tale Heart” by telling you every single detail. That is why I think the book was more enjoyable to read instead, of watching the movie.
When making a distinction between movie and novel, it is not acceptable, in my opinion to talk about the differences between the two versions in terms of "better" or "worse." You may like how the artist creates a scene in the movie or how another artist plays with the same scene in the novel, but these are subjective preferences; neither speak to the quality of the work. You cannot critically compare different media, because you do not have a common set of terms with which to comparatively discuss the works.
Both the novel and the movie have the strengths and weaknesses. In my opinion, it is more clearly explained about the strong bonds between Billy and his dogs in the book than in the movie. I can really understand how much Billy loved his dogs, and the expression of love was more in the book than in the movie. The book gives more detailed information than the movie. However, I prefer watching the movie because it seems to be more
I much preferred the movie version to the novel. For me, author William Kennedy’s style of writing is needlessly vague and difficult to follow, yet he did a wonderful job adapting
I think the movie is better than the book because it’s more visual, has more action, and has props.
She wanted to learn more about how to shoot a gun. She wanted to be like one of the guys. The novel installs all these ideas, but it also allows the reader to use their creativity. It also gives more emphasis on little traits of the character that make the character more unique. Therefore, due to the film's inability to give audiences more information about the characters, their role and their emotions, the novel is much more informative.
When a book gets adapted into a film, the filmmakers will most likely change many things from the book so it doesn’t seem like they ripped the film completely off. This is obvious with Flowers For Algernon and the movie, Charly, this book and movie have many differences as well as similarities. One similarity with this book and film is that they both follow the same story which is about Charlie, a 37 year old man that desperatly wants to become smart. In the book, Charlie finds two doctors, Dr. Nemur and Dr. Strauss and choose him for the operation, In the film, Charlie is also chosen for the operation. Another similarity is that Charlie becomes friends with Algernon after he beats him. In the book, after Charlie beats Algernon many times,
In a recent course of events, the last two members of the Usher family passed away in a rather peculiar manner; “I fled aghast”, says our still terror-stricken source who was at the scene. According to the only eyewitness, who wishes to remain anonymous, Roderick Usher, a shut-in, had been suffering from hypersensitivity and anxiety for a while. His sister, Madeline Usher, suffered from catalepsy. However, these diseases did not directly cause their deaths or the mysterious disappearance of their house.
Flowers For Algernon and Charley have the same characters for the most part. Charlie/Charley is the main character of both works, with the exception of a petty spelling difference that in the film it is spelt as Charley rather than Charlie. Mr. Gordon’s occupation of Flowers For Algernon and Charley are quite disparate. For example, in the condensed version of Flowers For Algernon Charlie works in a plastic manufacturing factory. While in the 1968 film Charley works in a bakery. Both in the book and film Algernon portrays a very witted and agile mouse. There is no differences of Algernon within the book or film. In addition Ms.Kinnian is still the same character which is Charlie’s/Charley’s teacher. The book and film both have Dr.Strauss and
The 3 major differences that were seen are the shattering of the conch, the pilot’s presence, and Ralph’s attitude towards Piggy. Due to these major differences the novel left a greater impact on its readers than the movie on its viewers. Seeing the movie and as well reading the book, personally the book was a better. The book has a very different approach of that showed these 3 major differences to their full extent. Out of the two though, I would choose the book as more pleasant and
‘Acceptance is a definite and unqualified assent to an offer, on all of its terms. Any acceptance given conditionally will not result in a legally binding agreement.’
The perception that the novel is usually better than the movie version in this case is true; I preferred reading the novel over watching the movie. The novel
World War II and Propaganda Posters Propaganda during World War II was escalated to perhaps the greatest heights in history. Propaganda is used to manipulate information to influence public opinion, rather than merely communicate the facts about something. The American government used propaganda posters to persuade people to conserve material needed by soldiers, to discourage gossip about information heard about the war effort, and to invest in war bonds. Other posters enforced the need for mass production of war materials and some were directed at women to become part of the workforce because of the depleting number of men left for combat. Firstly, war bonds were debt
In my opinion the movie helps to understand the situation and the topic of the novel.
