Many people tend to have misconceptions when it comes to the flu vaccine. How well the vaccine woks depends on factors such as age and the health stand point of the person. There is a possibility that the vaccine may not full work for reasons like your body not making enough antibody cells, getting the vaccine too late, or the flu vaccine not fighting off the specific parasite spreading at that time.
Before even considering to get the flu vaccine, one most consult with his/her doctor. Typically people as young as 6 months of age and older are approved to get the flu vaccine; even pregnant women and people with chronic health conditions. However If you have an allergy to eggs or to any of the ingredients found in the vaccine, you’re not eligible for the vaccination. People have the misconception of thinking that taking antibiotics can help fight the flu. Antibiotic drugs only work against bacteria, and they do not have any effect against viruses. If for some reason you’re taking antibiotic for the flu, this can cause the bacteria found in your nose and throat to become resistant. You can also get bad side effect from taking antibiotic like diarrhea or developing rashes. People who wait to get the shot have a higher risk of catching the disease because your body is exposes. Another misconception people have is they think you only need to get vaccinated once or once a year. This is wrong because a shot of flu vaccine can give your body immunity for many months, and even as long as a year, but it is not a forever cure. Reason why the flu is spread more during colder weather is because people tend to stay more indoors where they interact with others in a close environment.
