Flyboys: A True Story of Courage is a 464 pg. non-fiction book by author James Bradly. I believe the title is pretty self-explanatory as the book is about men in the armed forces whom had to show great courage in times of war and was chosen as how "flyboy" is a name for a pilot. The book Flyboys follows the story of US Navy pilots Jimmy Dye, Floyd Hall, Merve Mershon, Warren Earl Vaughn, Dick Woellhof, Grady York, Glenn Frazier, and Warren Hindenlang. Third thing I learned from this book is that courage is needed when going into combat. As mentioned earlier, the US Navy pilots faced near-impossible odds going into ChiChi which even the US recognized but nonetheless, were needed in order for the rest of the armed forces to progress in its on-going fight with the Japanese. I believe the author's purpose in writing this book was to pay respect to the brave pilots by having the book serve as a memoir fir them. However, I also believe that the auhor wrote this book to give an in-depth historical account of this event in WW2 aswell as document the gruesome acts of cannibalism by the Japanese to which was attempted to have been kept concealed from the public. I thought the book was a good read as it held my interest but was also well informative. I would recommend this book to another person as I found myself able to read it, and I seldomly willingly read books, so I take it that the author must be doing something right.
