“Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars”. This is the famous and well-known saying by Les Brown. In our unit, we found all kinds of evidence that proved that dreams are both worth, and not worth it. In our unit, we read books, searched articles online, listened to motivational speeches, and watched videos online, all arguing on whether dreams are worth chasing or not. Of course, some dreams are just downright impossible or may seem too difficult; but having a goal motivates people to keep moving forward down their path, it can give a person happiness if achieved, and fulfilment in life. Even if they’re never really achieved, we could obtain these things, and possibly more.
For example, when my grandmother was young, she used to dream about being surrounded by a loving family. She was an orphan. She often tells me stories about how she would lie awake at night dreaming about just that. Many kids in her orphanage used to tell her that none of them were ever going to have a life like that “Why would we?” they said, “can you not see not even our parents wanted us!” Despite all the harsh words, she kept on dreaming and overcame all her obstacles and has reached her goal. Even though your goals might seem impossible, if you dream big you might get just that.
Most believe that the American Dream is the perfect life, with a house and white picket fence. Many famous celebrities who seem to have anything and everything right at their fingertips often end up committing suicide. proving that on the outside it may seem as though they achieved the American Dream, but there was still something more that they didn’t have. There is a common saying that goes “you only want what you can’t have.” So while people may dream their way into getting things that they desire, the grass remains greener on the other side.
Charles Dickens and John Steinbeck in their respective novels Great Expectations and Of Mice and Men, suggest that uncontrolled aspirations are inherently negative and do not lead to success in life. Modern society encourages individuals to aspire to greatness, however we must remember not lose focus on the tasks of the present if we want to achieve meaningful
Wanting for dreams to come true don’t do that themselves, it depends on what choices we do and don’t make that help us strive towards our longings. Unless, we are all controlled by fate, playing out the part in our lives that had been pre-organized for us. The unit selections Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer, a biographical novel, and Macbeth by William Shakespeare, a drama, both focus on things we can and can 't control in our lives, but Into the Wild does a better job answering the question in the prompt because rules are meant to be broken, Chris McCandless just took it to the next level. He was able to leave his life behind, making decisions most of us couldn 't even imagine making. He sets an example of what we can achieve in life. We
In discovering the dream of our perfect future and all that we could do, we begin to take the proper steps in reaching said goal. God has given us the ability to dream and the ability to choose what we do with our one life; he has given us the chance to earn our entry into his kingdom. The way that we reach our dream can depend on any number of steps but no matter how many different possible options, God has set the path for each person to reach their dream and all we have to do is take the first
Have you ever had a goal and you would do anything to achieve it? Changing how we are and the things we do for people in life, is not as impossible as it seems. I have seen people do amazing things that have changed their lives forever. It is special to have that feeling that you just met your goal and it was the biggest goal you had out of all of the other goals. That is how goals shape us in life.
People usually hear the word goal and they immediately consider their pursuit of happiness. Often, this goal has been in pursuit of a relationship, wealth, or great notoriety that they want; then they will be content. Although many may argue that pursuing happiness as a goal does not have detrimental effects, psychologists, previous wars, along with immigration all illustrate that pursuing happiness has more inimical consequences than advantageous.
Many people have a wish or lust of a better life than they have. It can range from more money to more power. These wishes could perhaps become true, but many of them only stay a figment of imagination and only a hope of something out of reach. Many people can let these wishes keep them on a path of success to try to achieve that wish or crumble in defeat over the thought that nothing can ever become better than the life they have now. Many of the people that have these wishes could be thinking of a better life in their everyday tasks that they have and think of the better things that they could be doing or the better things they could have in their life. Even though people understand that many of the wishes are out of reach they still have them to keep them going in the life that was given to
Some people spend their entire lives constantly asking themselves, “What do I ultimately want to do with the time I am given here on Earth?” On the other hand, some individuals are lucky enough to have insight on what exactly they want to accomplish or who they want to become. Yet despite this, they never have the courage or ambition to manifest it into existence. Fortunately for me, I have always had a clear vision of what I plan on doing in my future, and I’m certainly not hesitant to make it a reality.
