You gotta love it when famous people make big statements and make it funny as well. Just like what the Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl did with the band last night to protesters from the Westboro Baptist Church. The members of the cult-like Westboro Baptist Church are very well known to show up at big events and protest against homosexuality. Not only do they protest, but often their claims are just downright ludicrous and bordering on insane. So protest they did, in Kansas City, Missouri, on Friday night where the rock band Foo Fighters were playing at Spint Center. This time Grohl and the band jumped in the back of a pickup truck and proceeded to drive straight through the crowd and right up to the Westboro protesters. And they did it while blasting

Snyder V. Phelps is a United States Supreme Court case in which the Supreme Court ruled that speech on a matter of a public concern, on the public street, cannot be the basis of liability for an “intentional infliction of emotional distress,” even during circumstances when the speech is viewed or interpreted as “offensive” or “outrageous”. At the Westboro Baptist Church, Fred Phelps and his followers believed that God punishes the United States for its tolerance of homosexuality, particularly within the military. “To demonstrate their belief Phelps and his followers often picket at military funerals.” [Copied from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snyder_v._Phelps and http://www.uscourts.gov/educational-resources/educational-activities/facts-and-case-summary-snyder-v-phelps. Bill is a 34-year-old White male from Wichita, Kansas. He is an accountant that is currently engaged to Sue. Bill is a member of the Westboro Baptist Church is hates gays and the Jewish population. Additionally, this church protest the funerals of dead soldiers and victims of other crimes because they believe that God is the reason for their death because of America’s support for homosexuals (God Hates Fags, 2016). The Westboro Baptist Church is classified as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center (Southern Poverty Law Center, 2016). Hate groups have been on the rise since 2000 because of the growing demographics or other racial groups and their progress in society (PBS, 2016).
When asking people what they think about the word “Baptists” they immediately think about people who go to church or judgmental/hypocritical people, but those labels are false (Zhein Survey). However, according to the Westboro Baptist Church website, they do judge people who are not only of the LGBT group, they also judge Orthodox Christians, Muslims, Jews, politicians and even American Soldiers. Because this church has a large amount of “success” they are able to get their hate speech out around the United States (and maybe even other countries) to offend those who were listed or those who believe those listed are okay in what they are doing.
Fred Phelps and the members of the Westboro Baptist Church believe that God is punishing the United States for its tolerance of homosexuality, especially in America’s military. For the past 20 years they have picketed many military funerals across the country. They also condemned the Catholic Church for the scandals involving their clergy. On March 10, 2006, at Matthew Snyder’s funeral, Fred Phelps and six other members of the church, all of which were his family, peacefully displayed their signs which stated, “Thank God for Dead Soldiers,” “Fags Doom Nations,” “Priests Rape Boys,” “Semper Fi Fags,” God Hates You,” Pope in Hell,” and “Thank God for 9/11” (Cornell). Prior to picketing this funeral the members of the Westboro Church notified the authorities to insure the fact that they would not be violating any laws. They staged the picket on public land adjacent to a public street, 1,000 feet away from the church the
Matthew Shepard was just one of many people who had been targeted by Fred Phelps and his church. Phelps and the Westboro Baptist Church became known internationally for preaching and protesting against homosexuals. He had been known to align himself with dictators and terrorist groups. Church members traveled to various cities around the country to protest the funerals of gay people, military personnel who had died in battle serving their country, and many others. According to members of the church, soldiers were dying because God hated America for its tolerance of homosexuality. Phelps and his congregants believed that anyone who didn’t align themselves with Westboro Baptist Church would burn in hell. Unfortunately, since Westboro Baptist
In my opinion protesting is irrelevant and a waste of time depending on the topic. liberal yuppies are a waste of space everyone protesting Donald Trump is a yuppy and they all need to get a job. Teachers deserve better pay. Cows are great. If you do not like anything I just said here is a straw so you can suck it up. If you do not like my straw then here is some wood so you can build a bridge and get over it... or burn the bridge down which ever you
Everyone belongs to a subculture and every subculture has their niche in society. To the untrained eye, mosh pits look like unruly fighting rings. The purpose of mosh pits, however, is not to hurt people, but rather to “release frustrations and celebrate music” (Clark par. 1). Mosh pits offer a place for people to express themselves in an appropriate manner and setting, which otherwise would not be considered fitting outside of the pit. In my course of studying the subculture of mosh pits, I grew to better understand their purpose and the emotions they give off.
In the video with the westboro baptist family church they hate all gays and homosexuals.
“The Most Hated Family in America,” is a 2007 BBC documentary film by Louis Theroux, who followed members of the Westboro Baptist Church, in Topeka, Kansas, in order to document their outrageous and controversial views. Theroux spent three weeks with the Phelps family, descendants of Fred Phelps, who founded the Westboro Baptist Church in 1955. Members of the Westboro Baptist Church strongly believe that soldiers killed in combat, are God’s punishment for homosexuality and the increased support and acceptance of homosexuality in America. They display their views by having anti-gay protests and picketing the funerals of veterans, with signs like “God Hates Fags” and “Thank God for Dead Soldiers.” Theroux tells Shirley, the daughter of Fred Phelps, that the church’s protests are most likely putting people off the word of Jesus Christ, and she responds by saying their job is not
These events of the election lead me to ask Alejandra and Fernando about the anti-protest that have been bursting out all over the country. I asked Alejandra and Fernando how they feel about them and if they had participated in an any of the protest. (Fernando) – “Well right after they announced the winner a lot of people at UCLA were not happy so they started a protest against Donald Trump. It was around 11:50 pm when the protest happened. I would have joined but I had a long day from work and school and I had to wake up early the next day. Is not that I didn 't care and I didn 't want my voice to be heard I was just not emotionally ready I literally started crying. Although I wasn 't there physically I was there in spirit because it was great to have a community back you up. I could hear the chants of "f*** Donald Trump," "We want equality, not supremacy," and "we hate Trump" then after that they quickly faded away. I heard from friends that the protest was around 600 students and it ended up really late like around 3 in the morning. Although I was not present my protest is getting my education and to achieve my goals. As well as to empower others and to show them that anyone can achieve anything if you believe in yourself. As well as to show my community and people of color that they belong at UCLA”.
There are many things that the homosexual activists say are true, but those "truths" are merely myths in need of correction. The first of these myths says homosexuals are normal, healthy, everyday people, but on the contrary they are usually
The group leading many of the marches was even named the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee and encouraged participation in public protests but without the use of violence. Another example was seen on America’s two hundredth birthday, July 4, 1976. Hollywood Boulevard was the scene for a parade of gay rights’ activists dressed as America’s founding fathers. The goal was to call attention to their belief of an individual’s sexual freedom as a right to pursue happiness and thus protected by the First Amendment (Hall). Whether one agrees with the gay rights movement or the civil rights movement, it can be agreed that as Americans they all have the right to voice their opinion and participate in protests. What they do not have the right to do, though, is to employ the use of violence or disrespect in their protests toward others or toward those symbols of America and the very freedoms they are fighting
We all know that terrorists who claim to be part of ISSIS have some beliefs that may sound strange for us as a western society; one of them is believed that gay people are evil. In fact many witnesses of the massacre said that the gun shooter had said words against
This article talked about the profanity and dangers of the pride parade for gay marriage and whether children should be able to attend. New York City's annual homosexual "Pride" parade took place Sunday, June 28, 2015 at the highest "Platinum" level by Wal-Mart. It featured nudity, lewdness, vulgarity and even a sadomasochism float which subjected many young children who were present in the parade either marching or viewing the parade. One particular AFTAH writer observed most of the parade, documenting everything from who attended to what occurrences goes on. One of the reasons that caused the Supreme Court to decide on the ruling was creating a "constitutional right" for homosexual Yet in all honestly, there are many forms where it is actually
