Food Intake — Three Days Rashika Jamison SCI/220 December 2, 2011 Tracy McDougall Abstract Foods that we consume play a major role in our health as well as our lifestyle. Many of us never know how important it is for use to eat healthy and exercise. Sometimes it takes some of us to go thru something traumatic before we realized the important of these things. Eating a well-balanced diet with not only keep you in shape, but it will also help in the prevention of many diseases such as; heart disease, obesity, diabetes and many more. Making yourself knowledgeable of the adequate amount of nutrients that you should be consuming every day is important. If an individual eating too little protein or none at all there body would start to break down muscle tissue in order to get protein. When the deficiency of protein goes on for a long period of time a person will start to have poor growth, abnormal hair growth and very weak immune systems. Also in many countries there are child that suffer from “Kwashiorkor, which is due to a lack of protein in their diet ("Pubmed health," 2010)”. On the other hand eating too protein can be harmful to. Too much protein in your diet can cause “makes your kidneys work harder, but reports that it can bring on kidney failure are exaggerated. However, you could become dehydrated, which can make you feel lousy, because your body uses extra water to flush out extra urea, a byproduct of protein digestion. Also, if you go for protein stuffed with saturated fat and you're obese, your odds of insulin resistance and diabetes shoot up” (Special to The Plain DealerThe Plain Dealer, 2011). Carbohydrates are the most important source of every that your body can use. From my iProfile, I consumed 1273 kCal, which was within acceptable macronutrient distribution range. My intake was about 318 g and I received most of this from Texas Toast, Maple Syrup, and Spaghetti, with Meat Sauce. I also got some of my Carbohydrates from a bagel, some strawberries, carrots, apples and pineapples. I surprisingly did very well is this area. I couldn’t believe that I got 100% of the recommended amount. One
