Food is something essential to the life of a human. Humans have come so far from when they would have to hunt and kill their food. We now have all these flavors we can make with food, seasonings, and just simply fire. Yet we waste the way the food really tastes. How? You ask, by allowing our food to rest within each other in an explosion of stupidity! We disrespect the art of eating by allowing the food to touch and mix together. Allowing the food to touch is very disrespectful, and it shows unserious we take the art of eating, which means you don’t totally immerse yourself in the item you allowing it to your mouth for consumption. Eating is something that takes dedication and cleanliness, and most essential is of course organization. Food …show more content…
As humans the only real thing we can honestly focus on is ourselves. We do millions of things in our lives all that the same time. How can we really separate and understand, or even experience, if we let everything in our lives mess together into something we can’t fully understand. In order to truly multitask you have to break down and understand the little things, by understanding the little things you can take pride in to doing multiple things at once while truly staying open to all things at one. Food is one of the basic things we need to survive. Most of the time you fill your plate with food and not paying attention if the gravy gets on the biscuit, or you’re the applesauce right on the other side. Each of these things is specifically and tastefully unique. There’s the mistake, problem or the possible worst choice you could make in your life. Like honestly, do you even care what you’re eating anymore? It’s ridiculous! Lining up in a fast food drive-thru, ordering something so fake, we pretend its real food and eat it, knowing thing we are eating is something so processed studies have showed the food could kill us over time. Do you really want to die because you were late for the job you have to have to pay the mortgage that you will gladly pay a cheap price; just so you can get through the day? You’re missing out on the thing that is killing you, which you are oblivious to because you’re so focused on other things that you are slowly …show more content…
Let’s think of every Americans either least favorite, ok with, or hated the holiday. Thanksgiving. Now Thanksgiving dinner comes along with this holiday and all there is an extreme buffet set up of rather delicious, but many different types of food on that table isn’t there? Well, let’s walk through the meal and how each thing on your plate could open your eyes the other parts of your life you have been neglecting. By doing this you will open your eyes to the organization of not having your food be mixed together to create slop like they give pigs. We deserve to eat like the humans we are. Anyways the first thing you think of, on the Thanksgiving holiday that you’re going to eat is obviously turkey. Now the turkey is the middle or whole make up of your dinner just as you are the center of you universe. The turkey must be cooked and prepped to a certain degree in order to get the most flavor and memorable taste that the Thanksgiving turkey is supposed to have. The next thing that matters in this glorious meal is the dressing; the dressing is something that can only be done a specific way that allows it to be moist and most forthcoming of its amazing flavor. The dressing is something that helps the turkey just as though your job does for you. The stuffing of a turkey to help moisten and cook the turkey is as money from your job can be to you. It helps you stay afloat and tasty. The
1. In his article, “The Pleasures of Eating” (1990), author Wendell Berry says that the food industry and its consumers are analogous to Hollywood and its relationship to its consumers. His analogy states that people don't care how bad a movie is, they just care that its a movie and they finally have some form of entertainment, very much like how people tend to do today with their food, eating gross and unhealthy just for the kick of it. He claims that a person who doesn’t realize “the connections between eating and the land” is “passive and uncritical” and therefore, “in short a victim” of Although they sound similar, being a passive consumer of entertainment is different than being a passive consumer of food, because although watching bad movies watching many bad movies is not that bad for your health, eating too much junk food is really bad for you and eventually takes a toll on your body.
This gap has lead people to become “passive consumers” that are ignorant towards the origin of their food, how it is produced, and their role in the modern food industry. Berry argues that the pleasure of eating cannot be known without understanding that eating is involved in the agricultural process. He urges people to look into where and how their food is produced and under what conditions. He asserts that food is now a product of industry meaning the food industry no longer cares about the quality of food and how healthy it is, but how much can be produced at a small price. Berry then gives seven suggestions that can help people eat responsibly and understand the pleasures of eating. By being active in our world and in how we eat, people can eat with the fullest pleasure by being connected with the world around them and eating with understanding and gratitude
Human beings have a tendency of eating anything edible just to satisfy themselves without knowing what it contains and how harmful it can be to their lives. Sometimes it is very dangerous not to get concerned with what we consume since we sometimes eat unhealthy and unsatisfactory foods, which later become hazardous to our lives. According to Michael Pollan (102), most of the American does not know how the foods they consume are being processed, where they come from or even what effects they have on our bodies. We have several foods to choose from and varieties are too much. Pollan in his book Omnivore's Dilemma terms human beings as prime omnivores who are surrounded by dilemma on what to feed on since there
People’s ability to assess certain courses of action brings about two distinct paths: it either hinders the person’s ability to gauge their surroundings or it enables them to see and act based on a completely new perspective. It is our seemingly competent nature, as generalists, that has led to the rise of the phenomenon known as the “national eating disorder.” Skewing food culture and trend patterns, we have come to trust in our natural aptitude for survival as a way to pave our way through sustaining nourishment while coming into terms with the opportunity costs that accompany all of our decisions. There is something about food that grabs people; it is the individual tastes and textures, the unique stories of each and every ingredient that is used to make food, and the smell of spices that brings familiarity that
He uses the phrase "the act of eating" repeatedly. Instead of referring to it as "eating" alone. By doing this he makes the eating seem more on an experience than just a thing that people do to live. This supports his claim that the pleasure of eating should be in the experience and not just the taste. He continuously uses the phrase “industrial eater." This reference to the eater as less than a normal human makes an impact on the way they should view eating. By calling the person who eats this way “industrial” he makes them sound as if they are almost a part of the companies and machines that cause this problem in the first place. If the readers feels as though they are a part of the terrible lives of animals and unhealthy foods they may feel more compelled to change their way of
Imagine it is diner time, and right in front of you lies a large plate of crispy, fried chicken and some hot and steamy mashed potatoes, along with your favorite brand of chips. Sounds delicious, it is like heaven on a plate! All of these unique foods together on a single plate about to be consumed--oh goodness--a chip somehow ended up touching the mashed potatoes! Of course, you do not like your chips becoming soggy because of those dastardly mashed potatoes. That is gross! I suppose you would not want to eat those soggy chips anymore, might as well toss it in the trash and not eat it. Though, if no one enjoys their foods touching one another, why do people put food all on one plate in the first place? It should have been expected to happen,
Today in this generation, people think it’s fine to pick up dangerous driving habits because they see others doing the same. Multitasking while driving is one of the most dangerous things you could do while you are behind the wheel. Cellular devices seem to be the number one distraction when it comes to driving. According to NSC’s website about 245,358 car crashes have occurred due to people being on their phones. The question now is should people face a punishment for focusing on other things while driving if caught by the police? In my own opinion, I believe they should get some type of consequence for not being fully aware.
Food, has a specific meaning to all of us; for some it is a form of nourishment, for others it is a cultural act,
nimals, I think it's kind of gross, but I don’t have the commitment to say I'm a vegetarian. Anyway, I don't enjoy eating animals that much, it's just not for me but that's a personal problem. But that's the main focus of Thanksgiving! People just call is Turkey Day, sometimes! So, there's one holiday food, OUT! Next in line, we have stuffing. Mmm don’t you just love good old fashioned wet bread to fill your genetically modified turkey's carcass? Ew! What? Why is that a thing? I don't need to argue this further, I think you get it. The only other key player in the Thanksgiving meal that comes to mind is pumpkin pie. Pumpkin spice is a fan favorite, starting early September people go wild over everything flavored to taste like that festive squash. That's another one of those foods that I just don't like, I'm a picky eater, it's fine. So, I'll let everyone have that, but that does not make Thanksgiving more enjoyable to me. The only Thanksgiving food that I can thoroughly enjoy, are mashed potatoes. Those are glorious, I'm not mad at them but my family gets a little upset at me when that's all I eat for Thanksgiving dinner so it doesn't even count. Major portion of Thanksgiving celebration is the food, and I'm not into it. Boom! Holiday ruined! I mean, if I'm going to overeat, it might as well be foods I enjoy! But, it gets worse.
Thinking about the importance and significance of food respective to our health, ethnic culture and society can cause cavernous, profound, and even questionable thoughts such as: “Is food taken for granted?”, “Is specialty foods just a fad or a change in lifestyle?”, and even “Is food becoming the enemy.” Mark Bittman, an established food journalist, wrote an article called “Why take food seriously?” In this article, Bittman enlightens the reader with a brief history lesson of America’s appreciation of food over the past decades. This history lesson leads to where the social standing of food is today and how it is affecting not only the people of America, but also the rest of the world.
Life can be busy theses days, right? We have our careers, children, school among other things going on. In the article “The Pleasure of Eating”, Wendell Berry expresses his idea that in order for consumers to truly appreciate the food on their plates, they should know its origin and how it is produced. Berry was inspired by his realization that nowadays food productions are becoming more and more industrialized, and the consumers themselves are slowly transforming into industrial eaters. He states that there is a barrier between the people and the reality behind food production because people can purchase already packaged food at anywhere and anytime. This makes them ignorant to the hardship and the cruel conditions it went under to get on the shelves. He also criticizes the food industry, as it manipulates people to regard eating as a way of survival and not one of the many pleasures in life. Berry successfully appeals to pathos in order to further convince his urban consumers that eating is an act of pleasure. Therefore, people should take more into consideration on what they are eating and how it will affect them in the long run.

THESIS STATEMENT: Breakfast is an essential part of your morning routine because it kickstarts your metabolism, helps you concentrate and perform better in class, and aids in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. Who here didn’t have their breakfast this morning? I bet most of you did. I used to be one of those too until last month when I did a research on Biology and by chance, came across a fact about how important breakfast is. I believe that as soon as you heard the topic, you will assume that I am going to give you a life lesson as your parents do. “Breakfast is the most essential meal” is spoken by every mother, yet the reasons why we should eat breakfast have never been clarified more clearly and seriously. The following speech will highlight that breakfast is required for three main reasons; first, it helps improve our grades; second, it controls our balance diet; and more importantly; it can promote
