What is Hot Topic? Hot Topic is an American retail store that is largely based in California that sells culture related clothes, largely attracting young teenagers and adults. The store is basely located in California, but has stores in other parts of the U.S. and Canada. It is evident that Hot Topic is a store that always visually changes from time to time, in order to appeal to the young consumers that walk by there stores when they go watch a movie or go to the mall with friends. The store studies and analyzes the way that young men and women act, follow, and do when they are introduced to new pop culture. Why does studying the consumer matter? Well, according to an article
In American culture, we typically center our food choices around american options such as burgers, fries, chicken fried steaks, and chicken tenders. However, I decided to seek out a food from a culture that differs than my American background. I sought out a restaurant that served and Indian cuisine and one that I wouldn’t usually try. I decided Indian for the reason that I love spice in food and the spice that the Indian culture uses in their food should really compliment the food. The restaurant that I found was called Taco Naan, which combines cultures and serves food that cater to Mexican and Indian cultures.
In addition to the Dinner and Lunch specials, the coupons are the first thing you see. Although slightly cluttered, the homepage is very informational. The Curry Box website is updated regularly as Spice King’s site is static. The flow of www.curribox.com is fluent and easy to understand. www.spicekingrenton.com is written in broken English in places and does not have an easy flow of information. Having the same targeted market, Spice King would do itself great justice to provide menu item descriptions in Punjabi. Having a smaller menu, the staff is very knowledgeable on the items it provides as well as making special adjustments upon customer request. Curry Box does not seem to offer an option for alternatives. Curry Box has a slogan of “When in a hurry for curry”; Spice King does not have a slogan. Curry Box uses Facebook, Twitter, and Linkedin social media sites to advertise their business. Spice King does not have any social media interaction.
Increasing international growth and commitment to the environment and their employees are major strengths for the company. Growth opportunities are present in the organic market, which is projected to grow 9% (Scott-Thomas, 2012), and the smoothie market, which will see a potential growth of 1.6% through 2013 (Technomic, 2012). Some of the weaknesses facing the company are its narrow target market in the organic product industry and lack of traditional advertising. Major competition from Odwalla and Naked Juice are threats to growth and the volatile market for fruit and other natural ingredients may cause unpredictable price increases and as well as an unpredictable future. Also, shifts in popularity of the trendy organic product movement may cause a decline in future revenues. However, both the smoothie and the organic/health food markets are growing rapidly and Clif Bar can secure a larger share in these markets with the introduction of Simply Clif.

Our first finding during the hunt was Gate’s BBQ. Gate’s BBQ has more than one location, but they were centralized in Kansas CIty only. The Gate family works at every location, but has other employees that are not family. The family members are typically the only ones in the management team. There are multiple sauces that Gate’s uses, but each sauce was designed by the family, and each family member has their own signature sauce.

India Jones Chow food truck menu had specific sections such as Curries with a selection of choosing butter chicken curry; Spicy home-style curries chicken, beef, pork, fish, veggie coconut curry, Saag Paneer (spinach and cheese), Channa Dal or rajma. Another section was the Indian Bread where they had Aloo Paratha, Paneer paratha, plain Nan, Garlic Nan, Sweet chili nan, Khurmi (Tomato garlic) and Raita (YoGurt & Cucumber). My favorite section they had on the food truck was the Frankie. The reason why this was my favorite segment was that the Frankie is an Indian Roti, egg washed & rolled up like a burrito with chopped onions with the choice of choosing your primary source of me being lamb, chicken, beef, shrimp, paneer, or Mushroom and Cheese.
