Unfortunately not all organizations see the world in a humanitarian point of view, but the handful that do includes The South Texas Food Bank. This organization was founded in 1989 and has been helping the community of Laredo ever since. The South Texas Food Bank allows the unfortunate to receive food and also educate the community about the realities of hunger. It has helped more than ten thousand families throughout the years.

The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank has dedicated themselves to fighting hunger since 1973. This organization distributes food to communities in Los Angles as well as over six hundred different agency partners, including the Mobile Food Pantry, the Foothill Unity Center, and the Episcopal Diocese Cathedral Center of St. Paul Food Bank. They also help to fight poverty and hunger by working with local, federal, and state programs and help to provide support for governmental programs fighting hunger. They fight to provide funding for variety of programs including: food stamps/SNAP (Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program), CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program), TEFAP (The Emergency Food Assistance Program), and CSFP (Commodity Supplemental

Imagine you are an academically failing student sitting in math class your stomach growls at you as you fail to understand what the teacher is trying to explain. Why? Because you are considered food insecure, so you don’t have enough food to create the energy needed to focus on school meaning that you could get held back. Think about this 16 million children are considered food insecure just in America. In Buncombe county 34,340 people are food insecure. Many people confuse hunger and food insecurity as the same thing however the are not. A person can be hungry because they didn’t eat breakfast, but someone who is food insecure doesn’t have access to enough healthy food. One local organization working to solve this problem is MANNA Food Bank.

The founders of the MSU Food Bank are prime examples of people that put the practice of “Model the way” into action. These dedicated individuals consisted of students and factuality. Each and every one of the founders led by example each and every day, and still do today. If these people did not put in the countless hours that they did, the MSU Food Bank would be non existent. The hundreds of people that they supply every year would go hungry, the people that go to the MSU Food Bank would not be able to perform at the level they do today because they would be food deprived. The founds of MSU’s Food Bank laid the foundation and set a bar in our community, these individuals had a goal and took the initiation to put it in motion, and forever changed

One of the most common ways for non-profit organizations like; Yuma Community food Bank, is to raise money through donations; however, donations only cover 92.43% of the revenue, and the rest comes from government, grants, and individuals donations. Donations are not 100% secure all the time, and the Yuma Community Food Bank needs other ways to raise money that is well needed to fix many money related issues that the organization is currently suffering.

In Florida where Human Service is known as Department of Children and Families, I had a client who was hard of hearing who did not understand what was requested for her Food Assistance case and the timeframe we needed the verification in. We had an interpreting service that showed the client sign language as to what I was asking for. The approach I took to de-escalated the conflict was to have the interpret to sign to the client everything she had a concern with and I was personal going to handle her case and make sure she had the proper benefits.
