Since everyone else from around the NFL is doing it, I thought I might as well join in on the fun too. I am going to start a series here on The Huddle where each week, I will project the top players at a certain position for the 2017 Season. I thought I might as well start with a play-making position to get this thing rolling. Therefore, this week we will take a closer look at my top 5 projected running backs. Top 5 Running Backs for the 2017 Season 5.Todd Gurley: Gurley had it rough in his second season finishing with 885 yards and six touchdowns. Still an average season for a running back, but Gurley can be a lot better--- as we saw from his rookie season. I still expect the Rams to stink in 2017, but Todd Gurley will get his. Another reason why I like Elliot at this spot is because of the Cowboys offensive line. They have the best offensive line in the NFL, which helps create big holes for Elliot to run into the end-zone. Look for Elliot to have another monster season in 2017. 2: David Johnson: Johnson had the most productive season among running backs finishing with 1,239 rushing yards and 879 receiving yards for a combined total for 20 touchdowns. Johnson was only in his second year, therefore I expect him to be even better next season. The Cardinals also have a solid line, which always helps when you are a running back. I expect David Johnson to be an elite runner next season, leading him to finish as a top-3 running back. 1: Le'Veon Bell: If you haven't gotten it by now, then you just aren't gonna get it. Le'Veon Bell has been, will be. and is the best running back in the NFL. Even when he missed four games Bell still finished with 1,268 rushing yards. If you didn't notice that is close to the other four running backs, and Bell played for less games than them. Imagine what he will accomplish when he plays all 16 games next season. His patience as a runner coupled with his ability to see the play develop make him the best runner of our generation. I would not be surprised if Le'Veon Bell runs for over 2,000 yards next season. Come-Back Running Back for 2017 Adrian Peterson: This was between Marshawn Lynch, Jamal Charles, and Adrian
This brings us to his future. For now he is going to stick with the falcons and continue as the star running back. He is not just doing this for himself, but he is doing it for his family. He is going to stay with them and pay for his sisters college. He does not want to get caught up in a contract dispute, because the only thing that matters to him is football and taking care of his family. Devonta Freeman only has one more year on his contract though, and we will see if he takes any offers. As far as his stats look, they look like they will keep improving, and be even more impressive than they already
Therefore, what do the Eagles do about this situation? It is a good spot to be in because in the NFL, you can never have too many running backs.
It is possible you forgot when James Starks burst onto the scene after being a 6th round pick out of Buffalo. In week 13 the Packers, looking for a spark in the running game activated Starks for the first time all season. He responded by rushing for 73 yards on 18 attempts, in a win over the 49ers. After that Starks returned to his modest role, until the playoffs. During the playoff run, James Starks seemingly came out of nowhere to run for 123 yards on 23 carries against the Eagles. The sparkplug continued to run hard all the way through the playoffs rushing for at least 50 yards in every game as the Packers went on to be crowned Super Bowl Champions.
At this point, I think it's fair to say that we would all love to see Ronald Jones grab that starting spot, even with Peyton right there with him. Peyton will get his fair share of touches this year, something that he hasn't really had the chance to do, and with Ronald waiting to prove he can ball at the next level, the 2 of them together are a great tandem. As the preseason approaches, however, let's hope there is less chatter about who the "starting" running back is and more chatter on how productive and diverse the offense can be with both of them on the roster. It's way too early to label starters and the players still have plenty of time to show just how well they are learning this offense. Here we go, another offseason
There was some concern about Wendell Smallwood character who was arrested back in 2014. Smallwood was charged with trying to get a witness to recant statements that implicated a friend of Smallwood's in a 2012 fatal shooting in Wilmington. Those charges were dropped. Smallwood was able to lead the Big 12 in rushing with 1,519 yards, with 9 TD’s and added 8 games with 100 or more yards. Smallwood was able to run a 4.47 at the 40 yard dash at the combine which gave him the 5th fast time for running backs and was also The Top Performer in the 3 cone drill and 60 yard shuttle. Smallwood can also catch the ball out of the backfield. Smallwood should rotate with Ryan Mathews and Darren Sproles next season. The Eagles have been adding offensive lineman this off-season both in FA and Draft which will help the Running game.
This final choice for breakout player could of gone to anyone on our team and this selection might surprise some people, but my choice is linebacker AJ Klein! His stats are not eye-popping however he started three games for the best linebacker in the NFL in Luke Kuechly and I don't feel like our defense missed a beat!
Running back: If the Bears do decide to have Rodgers under center, then they will have one of the most skilled ball carriers lined up behind him in Fulkerson. Coming off a 2014 season where he dislocated his patella and had knee surgery in January, Fulkerson is ready to put the past behind him and enjoy his senior season. He is a player that any offensive lineman would enjoy blocking for.
He has size, speed, and hands of an elite receiver. During his time at Ohio State he proved to be a reliable target in crunch time situations. His biggest strengths are his incredible speed off of the line of scrimmage, rate of acceleration, ability to catch the ball in traffic, and out-jump opposing defensive backs.
Zeke is someone I look up to for multiple reasons. He got good grades in school which is important. He also donates to charities for very good causes. The way a player plays on the field is not everything. Even Though he is amazing at what he does on the field he is also as amazing off the field. Finding that balance is what makes a hall of famer. He is definitely a player that can lead his team and win an mvp all in one
Top3 TE Rob Gronkowski - New England - Top3 TE - Rob Gronkowski, Patriots - best tight end in game and a must play every week if healthy. If he stays healthy he will be best tight end to ever play in the NFL Tremendous receiver and blocker. He does it all. Does anyone in the world have it better than this cat, happy as hell every waking second, stud football player, porn stars, etc. It wouldn't suck to be him. As an opposing defender said one time of him, "he reminds me of Schwarzenegger", in the Terminator. Enough
Before Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott came to the Dallas Cowboys they weren’t doing so great. These two have put up amazing numbers that have helped the Cowboys incredibly.
For starters, nobody should sleep on Jeremy Mincey. He doesn’t get talked about much but he was kind of the unsung hero of the Dallas pass rush last season leading the team in sacks with 6, and QB pressures with 39. He was also named team captain after Justin Durant went on IR. This is a contract year for him and at the age of 31 he won’t see many more. With more help along the defensive line he should get some more favorable match ups and have another nice season.
It has been a while since the Chicago Bears have had a dominating backfield with multiple running backs. Previous seasons of injury and players being ridden to exhaustion have kept Chicago’s running game from playing at its full potential throughout a complete season. The Bears were blessed with the talents and abilities of Matt Forte, but this year could be the start of something amazing.
While this first primetime game of 2016 will feature two great running backs, there are other rushers who are worth watching and hard to tackle. Even though college football has moved to a spread approach and teams are throwing more than ever, some running backs can still significantly affect the game and change entire seasons.
Mathews spent each of his first five NFL seasons with the San Diego Chargers, who drafted him No. 12 overall in 2010. He had two 1,000-yard seasons with San Diego, in 2011 and 2013, but rushed for just 330 yards and three touchdowns in 2014 while dealing with knee and ankle injuries. Mathews ended up starting over Murray in some games last season and was the best back on the team. Now that Murray is in Tennessee, Mathews is the main guy in Philly.
