Football is one of the most popular sports in the world, especially in young athletes. Almost all football players face injuries though. From concussions, to career ending knee injuries, almost all football players suffer football injuries. The cost of an injury can be devastating too. But fortunately there are preventions to at least help stop so many injuries. One of the most common football injuries are concussions. A concussion is a change in mental state due to traumatic impact (Levine). Football players are very susceptible to concussions. The percentage of injuries to a football player, concussions happen 7.4% of the time (Kvcera). And also keep hydrated. Dehydration is not good. And also, this is probably a dead giveaway, all players have to wear proper equipment, like helmets, and shoulder pads ( Levine). But all teams ensure that their players wear proper equipment. Playing fields must be safe to play on also. If the playing facility is not safe that is definitely a cause of injury. Holes In the field or broken glass and many other things can go wrong with the playing field that can cause injury. Players have to be taken care of as well. For older players, trainers must take care of their players. For younger players, it is the parents responsibility to make sure their child is safe and able to play football. (Kvcera) On average, the approx. cost per injury in football is around $150 per injury (American orthopedic society for sports medicine). I think you can assume that nobody wants to pay that, on top of an injury. The frequency of injury that occurs is from about 10 to 35 per 1000 playing hours (American orthopedic society for sports medicine). Numbers representing football injuries are ugly aren’t they? One of the most fatal injuries is to the face or neck. Broken neck can paralyze a player, and they could never be able to play again. An injury to this part of the body happens about 4.3% of the time. That’s still not very good. As you can tell, there is nothing good about football injuries. Concussions, knee injuries, neck

Football has been around for many decades. There have been all sorts of injuries throughout its existence. As the game evolved with plastic helmets and bigger pads, so did the number of big hits that players were landing. This was exciting for the spectators, watching players give it their all on the field. Players quickly found out that hitting with your head is much more effective than hitting with your shoulder. This new technique brought much more than excitement to the game. It came with concussions. Concussions were never a serious problem until the game evolved. Ever since these injuries came into the game, there has been a push to make the game much safer.
Concussions are one of the main immediate dangers of football and are very common. By a recent study, it was estimated that high school students suffer 11.2 concussions for every 10,000 games played which is much more than other contact sports. Also, twice as many high school football players suffer from concussions than college players annually. This is probably one of the most daunting statistics because a person's brain is not fully developed until the age of 25 and it has been proven that underdeveloped brains are more prone to serious injuries than fully developed ones.(talk about death from football somewhere here)Aside from concussions, There are many other injuries aligned with high school football such as knee injuries which is also most common among football players when compared to all other high school sports- nearly 20 percent of players and nearly 40 percent of those players knee injuries will require surgery at some time. Concussions and knee injuries are just two of the many physical injuries associated with high school football.

The effects of a concussion are usually temporary and can result in a full recovery if it’s minor and treated correctly. A concussion can lead to brain problems later in life, even after a player has finished playing football. Concussions are more than just a swelling bump on the head, they’re considered a minor traumatic brain injury. We need to spread awareness about this injury that sports players are told to “Shake Off” and get right back into the game.
Everyone who commits to playing for an organized team knows that there is a large risk involved with the time you are stepping onto the field. The most common sport that athletes are being injured is in the sport of football. The reason is because it is so widely played by all ages, from Pop Warner all the way to the NFL. The NFL is doing everything they can to prevent head injuries in the sport of football.
Concussions and injuries are an issue for football players because they have faulty protection for their bodies, they play a dangerous sport, and injuries can cause lifetime ailments to the players.
Football is a rough sport. Many fans of the game watch it for the hard hits. These hard hits and the potential for injury is part of what makes the game so exciting. Some people say that football is too brutal and should be banned. Parents all over the United States don’t allow their children to play because of the risk of head injuries. Others allow their sons, and every now and then their daughters, to play and risk injury for a chance to earn a college scholarship and for a small percentage of players, the chance to play in the National Football League (NFL).
“CDC reports show that the amount of reported concussions has doubled in the last 10 years. The American Academy of Pediatrics has reported that emergency room visits for concussions in kids ages 8 to 13 years old has doubled, and concussions have risen 200 percent among teens ages 14 to 19 in the last decade” (Head Case, 2013). It is reported that between 5-10% of athletes will suffer concussion during any given sports season. Football is the most common sport with concussion risk for males with a 75% chance. It has also been found that 78% of concussions happen during games as opposed to during practices (Science Daily, 2014).
Many people that play sports get into some type of injury, the majority of injuries sustained in sports are usually head related. Football has about 118,886 injuries, basketball with 119,589 injuries, and rugby with 1,214 injuries between the years of 2002-20014 and has continued to skyrocket. There are difference between head injuries in football than when playing other sports. These differences can be from minor, moderate, to sever. Football is more on the sever side because of the impact and number of hits they are taking. On the other hand sports like basketball, soccer, and tennis are not as of aggressive as football. And this is due to the lack of contact in the sports. These sports are very strict about the contact when playing in a game, they are charged with a penalty or flagged if a player makes the slightest contact with another player. Therefore you would rarely see a head injury let alone a sever head injury when playing those kind of sports. With football being more aggressive and more contact, the head injuries can lead to a player being hospitalized, and depending on the impact on the blow can lead to death.
