For this final analysis I will be looking more in depth to the movie The Hunger Games directed by Gary Ross and released March 23, 2012. In this movie there are two characters that we see the most Katniss, played by Jenifer Lawrence, and Peeta, played by Josh Hutcherson. Other characters that become familiar are Gale, played by Liam Hemsworth, Effie Trinket, played by Elizabeth Banks, Haymitch, played by Woody Harrelson, Primrose, played by Willow Shields, Mrs. Everdeen, played by Paula Malcomson, President Snow, played by Donald Sutherland, and Cinna, played by Lenny Kravitz. Katniss has to work on her own to survive at the beginning of the games and eventually her and Peeta work together and win. That is when the end of the movie begins. The end of the movie would start after the games where we get to see the victors. There are scenes of Peeta and Katniss at a victors’ interview and also a scene of Peeta and Katniss being crowned as the winners. Finally the movie ends when Peeta and Katniss returning to their district. The next thing I am going to talk about is mise-en-scene. Mise-en-scene means staging or putting on an action or scene, this is technically how the movie looks overall. According to the book, there are two major visual components of mise-en-scene; the design and the composition. The design, according to the definition of the book, is the process by which the look of the settings, props, lighting, and actors are determined. The composition, also from the books definition, is the organization, distribution, balance, and general relationship of actors and objects within the space of each shot. These components help us to sympathize for characters in the movie. The mise-en-scene of The Hunger Games was great. I was very impressed with the props and setting of this movie. The setting in the jungle and the different props they included made it feel so real.
