Forensic science is when a scientist uses certain aspects of a dead body to try to trace the murder, or death, back to a person who is responsible. But is it reliable? Forensic science has been being used to charge people with crimes, even when the person who was accused didn’t do anything. There are certain situations where Forensic science was used when the person that got accused of a murder didn’t kill anyone. In 2004 there was a terrorist train bombing in Madrid. After the area cleared the law enforcement found a bag of detonator caps that had fingerprints on them. The Federal Bureau of Investigation traced the fingerprints back to a lawyer named Brandon Mayfield, who lived in Washington County Oregon. Even though these fingerprints were a perfect match, it wasn’t him. After he was jailed for two weeks they finally released him, because they found the man that did the bombings in spain. “‘You almost never see something like this,’ said Peter Neufeld, co-director of the Innocence Project, a legal clinic in New York City.”(1) The fact that two men have the same fingerprints kinda desruelles Forensic …show more content…

In 1979 dentists used bite mark evidence to trace Ted Bundy to a murder. The bite marks were crooked like Ted’s teeth and that’s how they convicted him of the murder. Forensic dentistry is used still used, and has been used to convinced hundreds of criminals, but again, is it credible? “At a small-town courthouse in one of rural Mississippi's poorest counties, Dr. Michael West swore under oath that a dead girl had bite marks all over her body and that they were made by the two front teeth of the man charged with murdering her.”(2) In this case a man got put on death row for murdering a little girl. The murder got traced back to him by teeth marks that were found on the body. He was jailed. After a couple weeks he got released, because a man that was traced back to a different murder by his DNA,
