What is Forensic Science?
Forensic means to relate to court and law. Forensics combined with science is to investigate crime scenes using scientific methods to analyse data and potential evidence. It requires analysis of all physical evidence present. This can include things like DNA testing and analysing fingerprints to figure out the identity of someone.

Qualifications for Forensic Science
Forensics demand many different branches of science, like physics, chemistry, and biology.
Main qualifications for Forensic Science in Australia are
1. Bachelors or Masters of Science, or a specific science branch like chemistry or biology

You would be involved in civil cases like forgeries and fraud, and even the more well known crimes like murder, robbery and rape. If you were to choose this career, you would be most likely analysing crime scenes, testing DNA, and matching fingerprints. You would also need to look at when and where the actual crime was committed. Say someone has been murdered, you'd need to find out if that person had died at the location or was killed somewhere else, and where. You'd also look at how they died, what injury actually killed the person.
When people think of forensics, they usually think of crimes like murder and robberies. However that is not always the case. You may also do things that you didn't think you'd have to, like testing if water from taps meets legal purity levels, or investigating the use of pesticide on crops.
