When aspiring scientists decide to go into the field of forensic science, many prerequisites are needed. In high school and even in the first years of college, certain courses should be taken. English, Chemistry, Physics, and Biology are the most important but it can also be of assistance to take classes such as Genetics, Statistics, Crime Scene Investigation, and Forensic DNA Analysis. In forensic science, various chemistry degrees are mandated. Popular choices include Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Drug Chemistry, and Biophysical Chemistry. Knowledge and proper education are looked-for when applying for a job but employers desire scientists with several social skills as well. Forensic scientists need to be quick-thinking, proficient speakers on top of knowing how to explain complex enigmas. Within the career, a considerable amount of machinery is used so therefore proper training is usually given. Due to the several components involved in the field of forensic science, only a handful of dedicated
Forensic Science is a vital and fascinating part of the criminal justice system. Forensic science it plays an important role in almost. every part of the criminal justice system. For many Americans, the word forensics evokes a cascade of vibrant imagery that entails crime and intrigue. It is a buzzword for DNA, bite marks, bullet wounds, fingerprints, autopsy, gore, death investigations, semen stains, and rape kits. Forensic science is defined as the application of science to the law, which is a very broad definition This can mean almost anything— accountants who perform analysis to assist the courts are forensic accountants; computer enthusiasts who hack into the hard drives of sexual predators are forensic computer technicians, the list goes on and on. The field of forensic science is growing, and the list becomes even longer as more divisions of labor and specialization occur. With this large influx of experts in fields that expand with technology and multitudes of new techniques, it is amazing that the courts can even keep up.
This caught my attention right away and hooked me in. Along with being a topic I was quite interested in (reference to last nonfiction book report), the first two sentences got me wondering. What could be told from a murdered person’s body? I already had a lot of background information from research and watching shows on mystery and homicide but this question led to a million answers. Some answers were cause of death, manner of death. time of death, weapon used, etc, all of which were related because this was sparked from the thought of a dead person and my ideas. From this, I read on to determine what could be told from an expert’s point of view.
Toxicology is used by society in many ways – its absence would greatly affect the lives of many. This is because toxins are found almost everywhere in the modern time; they are found in the food we eat, or in the clothes we wear every day. Being exposed to such a great amount of toxins inevitably can be dangerous for all living things – which Is where the job of a toxicologist comes into play. A Toxicologist is a broad term which is given to any expert in science who is concerned with nature, and effects/detection of poisons. Several specialities of toxicology in which a toxicologist may be employed in include occupational, environmental, pharmaceutical, and forensic toxicology. Each field plays
Throughout my educational journey, my interest and attention was always captivated by classes which had even the slightest tendency towards Forensic Psychology. Yet, my passion remained unconscious until I took a class of Criminal Law in Business, class which seemed to hold the answer for the consuming question “What am I going to study at University?” From there, I began putting the puzzle pieces together, determined to find the source of the spark- Law, Criminology, Forensic Science all seemed to bring me closer to the right one for me: Forensic Psychology. Reading the first few lines of the field description was enough to assure me that there is no other subject could fascinate, intrigue and motivate me to give by best to apart from this. I became infatuated with the evidence that evil in a human being can be so incandescent, transparent and mischievous that it could bring down any barrier of normality. I became absorbed by its power to grow into the mind and punish the
In this case study Forensic Toxicology was used to solve the murder of Robert Curley and obtained the conviction of his wife Joann Curley.
Tashanna N Garcia is currently enrolled in the Masters of Criminal Justice, with a concentration in Forensic Science, program at Saint Leo University. Tashanna comes from a military background where she served as an officer in the United States Marine Corps. Her military training was essential to her transition into law enforcement, where she spent the last ten years working for two police departments as a patrol officer and then for the Alabama Department of Public Safety as a Traffic Homicide Investigator for the State Troopers. Tashanna hopes to return to the law enforcement field in an administrative capacity and has a passion for forensic disciplines. Correspondence concerning this paper should be addressed to Tashanna N Garcia,
Will need to have majored or taken courses in some of the following: forensic science, biology, forensic biology, anatomy, and/or chemistry
The forensic anthropology class drew my immense focus, because it is a subject I am fascinated with
Other hiccups in the investigation included Angulo not questioning Winston and either of the teammates and neither did he obtain a sample of Winston’s DNA to try and match it with Kinsman’s toxicology report. There were allegations that the TPD helped FSU Athletics stay up to date about the investigation, by informing them of everything going on before the details of the case even reached the victim. Due to media speculations, TPD turned the case over to state attorney, Willie Meggs. Once the case was in the state attorney’s possession, Tim Jensen (Winston’s lawyer) made Winston’s teammates sign a document agreeing that they both witnessed what appeared to be consensual sex between Kinsman and Winston that night (Kinsman v. Winston, 2012).
However, the specific career as a forensic scientist contrasts other careers in the biotechnology field, because it will be highly competitive in the future. To set myself apart from others as a apply for a job, I want to be sure that I enter a college with a prestigious forensic science program. This is one of the many reasons I plan to apply Pennsylvania State University in University Park, Virginia Commonwealth University, and University of Maryland College Park. Receiving an uppermost education in my college major will allow me to be more enriched in knowledge and skill than many others in the field. In turn, I will have an advantage when applying for jobs as a forensic
Dr. Erin Watson is a woman who wants to be best in whatever she does. She is a determined person, always working to achieve what she wants. She’s a person who moved to Louisiana from Seattle just for her graduate studies. There is nothing that can stop her. “I never wanted to be a lab technician in the crime lab, I wanted to be the expert” she says, but has worked with many state and federal agencies like the FBI. She sternly says, “Forensic science is a science, not the drama on Television. . . many students have the misconception that a forensic scientist does only the things shown on the TV . . .but it is rather different and complex.”
Students and faculty are already reaping the benefits of additional work and study space. The lab is adorned with a rare blend of welcoming, ergonomic furniture and boasts a wide variety of high-tech gadgetry and equipment, including a DNA sequencer, inverted microscopes, a scanning electron microscope, and numerous kits for evidence collection and drug analysis. Specific areas have been reserved for disciplines such as Drugs & Toxicology, DNA Analysis, Forensic Biology, and Forensic Microscopy. There is also an area for collecting and processing evidence.
When can friendship still be called friendship? Is there a end, or does friendship last a lifetime? According to the Forensic Report and suspect case files it is clear that everyone was involved in the murder of Max Powers except Ray.
“ I've also learned to no longer feel guilty if I'm invited out and don't want to go. If I start to say to myself, 'What's wrong with you that you're staying in five nights in a row to watch 'Forensic Files' instead of going out with your friends' I remind myself that it's what I need to do for myself at that point.” Since i was a child I have always been fascinated by the field and study of science, but one occupation in particular caught my attention. Becoming a forensic technician, in this field of work the technician must analyze a crime scene and decide what is vital to the case, one wrong move and instantly everything collapses. The case could be done for, it would become a cold case and go unsolved. The career of a forensic technician
