Foreshadowing. Foreshadowing is a hint, clue that is displayed within a story, about something that’ll alter happen within the story. Foreshadowing helps us, the readers, understand the flow of a story, by how it’ll will end. For example, let’s say you’re in a dark alley. You meet a suspicious man dressed in black. He speaks upon you, “One by one they will fall.” You’re not sure what he meant at the moment. But, after a few weeks passed you discover your brother has died. Then a few more weeks your sister. Then your father, mother, aunt and more. You find this very suspicious. You then recall the guy u met in the alley. “One by one they will fall”, you repeat to yourself. There’s no other way. He is responsible for this. The story “The Landlady” gives a good example of foreshadowing. Within “The Landlady” the author displays foreshowing in order to build suspense within the reader, us. The story ended with Billy’s discovery of the stuffed animals, which the suspicious Landlady have stuffed. We then hear a change within Billy’s voice. His voice got shaky. As if he’d consumed or inhaled something, causing him to feel this way. Lastly, we see the Landlady. Staring with a smile on her face. …show more content…

Foreshadowing helps you understand the story. It makes you think and predict what is happening within the story. We can actually connect this to real life. What about detectives? Detectives find out mysteries that have yet to be solved. Although, they have evidence that can lead to the discovery of the crime. You basically can think of the evidence as foreshadowing. Because, it is what makes you think and predict the outcome due to evidence. There maybe some TV shows that are about crime investigation. The last episode leave you with suspense due to the fact that they didn’t tell you who was capable of it. This is how foreshadowing builds suspense within
