There was this star shaped building that had buildings inside of the star. It was a star so that they could have cannons at each point facing down at the other team. Also the walls were really tall so it made it harder on the other army to get them. There was a main party at the Saw Mills further south. What was the Battle of Fort Sumter? Fort Sumter was an island battle in the civil war (1861-1865). The fort was built in 1829. It’s located in Charleston Harbor, South Carolina. Fort Sumter was unfinished until U.S. Major Robert Anderson moved his men into the fort in 1860.

The original design of the fort was to house 500 soldiers and 78 pieces of artillery. Officers of the Army Corps of Engineers directed a civilian workforce to construct the fort. In 1860, progress was slow and only two-thirds of the walls were completed, yet not a single piece of artillery was in place. Rooms that were completed include the guard rooms, prison, lumber sheds, and carpentry shops. Leaving the storehouse and kitchen unfinished, and with the brink of the Civil War upon them, there is still not a single piece of artillery in place.

Fort McAllister was a small earthen citadel positioned alongside Genesis Point and armed with numerous heavy cannon to defend the Great Ogeechee River method south of Savannah, Georgia. It turned into expanded again and again with the aid of adding more guns, traverses and bomb proofs. Obstructions and sooner or later torpedoes (mines)finished the riverine defenses.

“The fort was built in an irregular pentagon design which is still considered one of the finest examples of Napoleonic military architecture in existence; the Pentagon in our nation’s capital is modeled after it. It was unusual in that it was erected over a sandy foundation with little solid rock underneath, but it never settled or sagged. The armament for it was formidable: three hundred and twelve seacoast and garrison guns, six field pieces, and one hundred and thirty-four other heavy guns, all to be manned by a garrison of twelve hundred men. The design also provided for a complete three hundred and sixty degree defensive pattern, thus eliminating the possibility of land attack. During the years, muzzle loading cannons gave way to rifled cannons which in turn were replaced by “disappearing” twelve inch guns. There was even a “torpedo” launching casemate.” (Hamilton, Harlan. Fort Riley is a military installation that is in the Geary, Riley, and Clay counties in Kansas. Fort Riley was established in 1852 and is currently the home of the Army’s First Infantry Division along with many other units (Kansas Historical Society, 2012). It is located in the northeastern part of the state and is only an hour away from Topeka, the state’s capital. Many portions of the fort are along the Kansas River and the Republican River. Around the fort is mostly agricultural or rural.

Fort Sumter was a very important conflict in the civil war and without it they may have not gone to war without it. It was a federal fort located in SC and since it was union the Confederacy wanted full control of it . Lincoln knew there was going to be a war but he wanted the south to make the first fire. The election of Lincoln and his actions during the Fort Sumter crisis were a large reason for the outbreak of Civil War. Historian’s views on the causes of war has changed greatly over the years. In the 20th Century, James Randall stressed that Lincoln took extreme caution over the question of emancipation and the Lincoln had deliberately engineered the war. Avery Craven agrees with this as he argues that Lincoln deliberately engineered the war, but he felt that he did this during the Fort Sumter crisis. However, post-war views are very different. David Potter absolved Lincoln of engineering the war as he argues that, up to the very last minute, Lincoln wanted peace.

I have gone through many experiences and journeys throughout my life. However, out of all of them, one stands out the most. That one journey that stands out the most is making the middle school basketball team. It was a two long journey that I will never forget.
