Fortinbras Laertes And Hamlet Comparison

In William Shakespeare's tragedy “Hamlet”, Fortinbras, Laertes, and Hamlet find themselves in very similar situations. They all had love and respect for their father’s and felt the need to avenge their unjustified deaths. However, there are differences between them. The character of Fortinbras was the only one to accomplish his goal and become king of Denmark in the end. Shakespeare’s comment through Fortinbras as a man of action, allowed the audience to see that he acts rather than thinks.
Hamlet is portrayed as weak and indecisive. When he is confronted with meeting the ghost of his father and asked to avenge his death, he quickly agrees to the revenge and comes up with a plan to fool everyone into thinking he is crazy. However, he is seen as a man who does not act, with his inability to make decisions or quick actions does not help his plan of revenge.

HAMLET
Murder?
GHOST
Murder most foul, as in the best it is,
But this most foul, strange, and unnatural.
HAMLET
Haste me to know 't, that I, with wings as swift
As meditation or the thoughts of love,
May sweep to my revenge.” (1.5.25-31)
The reader wonders if Hamlet had known who the killer was before, he would have still agreed to help so quickly. After he vows to his father to avenge him, Hamlet becomes obsessed with the thought of avenging his father‘s death and making everyone believe he is crazy, rather than act on what he first set out to do.
