Fortunia and the Karmites

In Greece, many, many moons ago, a demigoddess was born, from Clotho and a mortal. An infant with eyes the shade of twisting tree trunks and hair as dark as the midnight sky. Her name was Fortunia. “She’s wonderful!” Atropos exclaimed. “We can take her with us, raise her as one of our own!” Lachesis begged.
And with that, Fortunia lived with the fates. Every day she saw her mother doing her work, setting every mortal's life in tightly bound cloth, that could never be changed for better or worse. All the while seeing how horribly these mortals treated each other. After 15 years she decided she wouldn’t stand by watching this any longer. These mortals were going to be taught a lesson, and she had to be the one to do it.
Under the cover of darkness, she stole tiny bits of twine that hadn’t been woven into a life yet and got to work making an army of poppets, who were powerful spirits called Karmites. While the Fates were busy defining people's lives, Fortunia sent out the Karmites to bring justice and order to the earth. They saw hundreds of Karmites laying around in her room, waiting to be sent out. To avoid any more meddling with their plans, the Fates locked Fortunia up in a room several thousands of miles in the sky, never to be let out. To their dismay, the Karmites’ magic allowed them to go back to her, and she could still rule. She became vengeful, and her spite drew her overboard and her punishments can seem unfair or too harsh at times. But there has always been a reason behind her penance. To this day, Fortunia still rules from the room in the sky, sending Karmites down to bring justice. We call this phenomenon karma, that what you do, kind or unkind, comes back to
