Four Stages of Business Process Management Introduction The intent of this analysis is to explain the four stages of the Business Process Management (BPM) process and briefly summarize the activities of each. What unifies the four stages of the BPM process is the ability of organizations to continually attain greater performance through its use in iterative cycles (Kroenke, 2013). The four stages of the BPM process include creating components, implementing processes, assessing results and modeling processes. Often organizations relying on this framework of four processes will also re-engineer processes based on insights (Armistead, Harrison, Rowlands, 1995). This technique is called Business Process Re-engineering (BPR) and is often used to redefine processes and workflows for greater cost and time savings (Armistead, Harrison, Rowlands, 1995). Explanation Of The Four Stages of the BPM Process One of the most important foundational activities of using the BPM framework is constructing an as-is model that serves as the baseline to measure continual process improvement. The first of the four stages of the BPM cycle, Create Components, is directly related to the as-is model as the metrics of performance Measured across five factors of the IT systems and their use, are captured.
