Being a student-athlete has been the cornerstone of my educational career at La Crescent. There have been significant positives and hardships

My running has been a big part of my life ever since I was younger and saw my dad lace up his running shoes to go out for his daily run. I ran cross country and track for La Crescent every year since seventh-grade and have been fortunate enough, through dedicating myself to thousands of miles of training, to see great success during my time here. Last fall, I ran my final season of high school cross country. Ending the season, I was able to achieve my first state championship which brought me a sense of accomplishment no words could ever describe. I was overjoyed to see all my hard work pay off. The most interesting aspect of that whole experience was how the La Crescent community received the news. The night of the state meet, and the days that followed, allowed me to talk with friends, teachers, and community members alike. Through these interactions I noticed that winning state brought a great sense of pride not only to me but to the La Crescent community as a whole. Everyone felt a part of the accomplishment and it seemed that we accomplished something together. I’ve often heard criticism about La Crescent athletics, but I’ve come to understand, and others have to, that we aren’t as bad off as it might seem. In three years, we’ve had three people win state: myself, Zack Emery, and Clair Shepardson. A vast majority of schools can’t say that. I’ve noticed
The Anna Dale Dalton Competitive Scholarship Award on behalf of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated would invigorate my determination to change the community around me. I always strive to serve my community in four tiers. The first tier, Scott County High School, is the most immediate to me. In the past year I have established a library of resources solely dedicated to Advanced Placement, SAT, and ACT review materials that any student has access to. I have done this because Scott County High School has the largest Advanced Placement Program in the state of Kentucky, one that I have helped nurture for the past three years through my position as President of Advanced Placement Advisory Council. When the school board refused to allow the
Fortunately, Keely’s unusually large number of and variety of accomplishments are enumerated on her scholarship application as they are too many to list in one letter. Her commitment to succeed and the organized and responsible manner with which she approaches each new opportunity, attributes instilled in her by her parents, are the reasons for her many achievements. Moreover, Keely has a mature and lovely demeanor that others find reassuring. She subtly sets a standard for others to strive to reach.
My freshman year, I qualified for state in the shuttle hurdle relay. The girls on my relay team were a huge help to me, by guiding me along with new experiences. We ended up making it to finals and placing seventh in the state. My teammates pushed me in practice, and I wouldn’t have made it as far as I did without them by my side. I was always told that my hard work will pay off, and it for sure did. Going to state track taught me that anything is possible if you work for it. As I grow older, I’m sure to be a great role model for the underclassmen by giving them the motivation that they can do anything if they set their mind to it. I didn’t only help myself by doing this, but I helped the entire team. Throughout every sport, I try to be a positive influence towards my team because we need one another to improve and make a great impression by representing Forest City High
Ottawa-Glandorf athletics taught me more than I ever thought I would have learned. Being apart of Titan sports comes with a stigma: a stigma to be great, to work hard, and to carry good sportsmanship. I participated in Ottawa-Glandorf sports so I could be apart of a team, enhance leadership skills, and build relationships with peers. My freshman year I decided to join the girls soccer team. I was a little hesitant as I was the only Glandorf girl on the team, but after the first week of practice, I met some of my best friends I have today. Although I didn’t get much playing time, I always tried my hardest, gave it my all, and was a leader on and off the field.
I am honored to submit my candidacy for consideration as one of the two recipients of the Phi Theta kappa Gold Scholarship. I believe that my excellent academic record and active involvement in Phi Theta kappa both locally and regionally makes me a good candidate for the scholarship.
Athletics has played an instrumental role promoting success in all branches of life impacting my performance in school, work and other life facets. Involvement in athletics taught me the value of commitment allowing me to play in Division 1 Women’s Soccer while attending the University of Washington. As a former student athlete, I have been winning and losing my entire life developing my own resilience and tremendous work ethic to work with others toward a common goal. My drive spills over into my professional interactions and career aspirations allowing me to connect
As your school’s most visible athletes your primary role is to build a sense of community and school spirit both on and off the playing field. Whether cheering at games, running a pep rally, hosting visitors, or competing at competition, always conduct yourselves in a manner that bring enthusiasm to your school and unity to your community.
Having grown up in the Tahoe Truckee area, my participation in athletics, and a multitude of other team based activities, have consumed a vast majority of my teenage life, and have aided in my finding a variety of things I am passionate about. These activities have taught me many important life skills that I am able to contribute to both the Team community and community as a whole. These competencies include a strong sense of leadership, accountability, a clear sense of self, and effective communication, all of which I utilize in my day to day life. These skills also provide me with the ability to set effective goals and accomplish them.

I am sure known that I am a very busy person, but I must get myself in shape. I used to be happy and enjoyable in everything I did in the past. Then I neglected myself for the past four years because I think if I keep myself busy and work hard every day, it will pay off in the future. This is true, in contrast, before it pay off in the future, I might be become sick. So I changed my idea for the past four years. I have to balance who I am, what I like to do, school responsibility, job, and also spend time with my dad. I do not want to regret in the future that because I am busy with school and work, and I have not enjoyed family time with my dad and siblings when they are there for
As the cost of education increases, many students search for assistance to help cover that cost. During the years people change a lot. Five years is enough time to compare yourself now and then. I think that I have changed a lot for five years.
