France is known for being one of the largest tourist sites as well as being known for major historical events. Unlike the United States, France elects a president for a five-year term, and the president may be re-elected once. Right now, the president of France is Emmanuel Macron. Macron shares his power with a prime minister, Edouard Philippe. This sharing of power is called a hybrid presidential/parliamentary system (Samuel, 2017).
France’s legal system dates back to the age of Napoleon and is actually called the Napoleonic code. This code covers all of the branches in the legal system in France. After the first war, the Romans created the First Roman Province (French-Property). The Gallic Wars, which happened around 50 BC allowed Julius Caesar to create the city of Lutetia, which is modern day Paris. With the Romans taking over, Roman Catholic became the main religion, as it is today in France. Frankish people eventually populated France and became known as “The Country of the Franks” (French-Property). France originated from the Franks, first known as the Latin word “Francia”. As of 2016, France has a population of 66.9 million, with about 66% of people being Roman Catholic. Muslim consists of 9% of the population while the other 25% have no religious affiliation. France does not allow for any citizen to state what ethnicity they are, therefore there are not any actual statistics stating the ethnic make up of the country. Some have stated that France is mainly composed of Celtic and Latin people but other majorities include Franks, Americans, Africans, Asians, and a few more minorities (The Translation Company). Celtics are known to make up most of France because they have been living in France for over two thousand years and continue to be a large portion of ethnicity in France. There always seems to be something going on in France.
