Some parents love and cherish their children, but don’t understand them. Most do what they think is best for their kids, and aim to be admired by their children, but Mr. Frank is different; he and Anne have a special bond that will last a lifetime. In the play, The Diary of Anne Frank, by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, the Franks, the Van Daans, and Mr. Dussel go into hiding during Holocaust because Jews are being persecuted more and more in Germany. They are sent to concentration camps to die, and are suffering other versions of torture. Mr. Frank is Anne’s father, the man in charge of the annex, and he is a leader and someone who always looks out for others. Mr. Frank understands Anne is a teenage girl that need her father the listen to her. First of all, Mr. Frank understands Anne because he grants her a gift she desires, a diary. The diary is a major symbolism to display how much Mr. Frank understands her: all she wants is a dairy to map and write down her thought. For example, in the play, Mr. Frank announced Anne, “There are no walls, there are no bolts, no locks that anyone can put on your mind” (379). Mr. Frank knows Anne so well, that he perceived that she would go insane without talking or moving, Anne couldn't even stop laughing at what she continued to writing in her diary. …show more content…
Frank understands Anne because he gave her the pictures (movie stars). Even though they could take so little into the annex Mr. Frank realized that Anne would have a longing for her movie stars that he brought them. For instance, in the play, Anne shrieking to Mr. Frank, “Father! My movie stars! I was wondering where they were! I was looking for them this morning...and Queen Wilhelmina! How wonderful!” (379). Mr. Frank and Anne absolutely have close of a bond because what father would bring movie star into a hiding place just so his daughter could be comfortable. Therefore, Mr. Frank understands Anne so well that he give her movie
According to the movie, Mr. Frank seemed very devastated, and he was trying to hold himself together in order for him to prevent himself from crying because everything was taken from him. All around him were old memories of the past, such as gloves or a scarf of the people that he loved. In the selection, Mr. Frank also says, “I can’t stay in Amsterdam, Miep. It has too many memories for me. Everywhere there’s something... the house we lived in... the school... that street organ playing out there... I’m not the person you used to know, Miep,” especially after all that has happened to him, it would make sense for him to leave. Afterwards, Mr. Frank decided that everything at the Annex should be burned, however, Miep, who was his former secretary, gave him his daughter’s diary, known as The Diary of Anne
The play of “The diary of Anne Frank” by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, it tells a story and the life of Anne Frank and what it was like for her and her family during the Holocaust. The authors Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett focused more on the event of the story. They also focused on how life was after they got caught and had to be taken to concentration camps. They tell how the people felt and what they were going through during the two years of hiding and what it was like at the concentration camps. The authors chose to write more about the event, to show the bravery in Anne and her family, and to really show bad the times really were then.
Staying in an annex for two years without going outside may have been uncomfortable, but it gave everyone a better chance at survival. Character interaction, stage directions, and Anne’s diary are three significant ways historical events are portrayed in The Diary of Anne Frank. This play shows the reader that history can be written in many different
In the play, The Diary of Anne Frank, Anne is a dynamic character who is disrespectful and immature in the beginning of the play. When Anna had a nightmare in the beginning of the play, her mother came into her room to comfort her. Her mother offered Anne water and to stay with her until she fell asleep, but Anne said it wasn’t necessary to stay. When Mrs. Frank stated, “But I’d like to start with you . . . Very much. Really.” Anne replied, “I’d rather you didn’t” (398). This scene demonstrates Anne is both immature and rude because she rejects her mother’s help. Her mother is likely very hurt by this rejection, especially since, as her mother leaves the room, Anne asks for her father instead. In the end of the play, Anne shows she is a dynamic character by displaying the character traits brave and thoughtful. While Peter and Anne
In the popular book and story of Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl there are many themes present throughout her journal. It’s a touching piece of literature that puts things into perspective about family, warfare, loneliness, and selfishness. Her diary gives insight about people who are actually living in those circumstances from Anne’s point of view, resulting in a more factual story than fictional novels loosely based on true events. Anne goes through a lot during her time in the Annex, including tense arguments with her family, bombings, thieves, Peter, and Dussel moving in. The events may not seem like that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things, but to a young girl, it’s a huge change of events. It shows a lot from her in the way she acts, Anne’s selfishness proving that stress and war can change people to be more selfish.
Don’t you hate it when your family and strangers treat you in a harsh way. Anne Frank was treated harshly by some people in the secret annex people would yell at her call her spoiled lazy and was always telling her what to do. But some people treated her nicely like Peter VanDaan and her dad in a way that made her feel loved by some people around her. Anne was a twelve year old girl when she was forced into hiding because she was a Jew in Nazi territory during WW2. Anne is treated by the people in the annex in many ways and that effects her character in such a way that changes her character.
Anne and Mr. Frank have a great father relationship. They get along well. Mr. Frank just wants her to be herself. But they have a very close bond. Anne is closer to him than she is to her mother.
During this scene, Anne confessed that she had a nice side, but she was scared to show it. She would be nice, but she did not know what people would think about her. I think this is a big act of kindness because when you dig deeper and read on, you can find that she told Mr.Frank that the mean Anne comes out and the nice Anne stays on the inside. This shows how hard she has tried and nothing would work, she was kind hearted and felt differently
Throughout stories a lesson of some kind is taught and characters develop and grow. Diary of Anne Frank takes place during the Holocaust in Amsterdam. Since Anne and her family are Jewish they are hiding from the Nazis along with another family. Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett wrote the play based off of the diary that Anne kept while they were in hiding. While they are hiding Anne grows and changes. Anne Frank changes throughout the play because she matures and thinks about the world differently.
Throughout her time in the “Secret Annexe,” (what she called their hiding space) Anne grew from a hot-headed child into a smart young woman. In the beginning of the book, only 2 months after going into hiding, she writes that feels grateful that her and her family have been spared the fate of some of her friends, however this also makes her feel guilty, because she can’t save those who didn’t get the chance to go into hiding. In her diary, on November 19, 1942, she wrote,“We’re so fortunate here, away from the turmoil. We wouldn’t have to give a moment’s thought to all this suffering if it weren’t for the fact that we’re so worried about those we hold dear, whom we can no longer help. I feel wicked sleeping in a warm bed, while somewhere out there my dearest friends are dropping from exhaustion or being knocked to the ground.” (paragraph 5 pg 55)
Anne Frank had trouble with her parents but she also had some things she could compare both parents. For instance they both did not care whether her reports were good or bad as long as she was well and happy. They both made her mad at times and they are both her parents whether she likes it or not. Each parent had their own way of viewing Anne and each one of them cared for Anne at least a little. It also seemed like they each had a favorite child Anne’s mummy had Margot as a Favorite it seemed and it also seemed as if Anne’s Father’s favorite was Anne.
The first part of the diary starts with her being a regular girl having fun and turns into a girl going into hiding with seven other people. In addition, she has to deal with relation problems with her mom, sister, and the people she is in hiding with. The problems begin when eight people are confined in a small area and everybody begins to irritate and annoy one another. Anne was especially concerned with herself and with her attitude towards the others in the group. She's mainly concerned with her mother who always treats her like baby. Mr. Frank tires to ease the quarrels between them by telling Anne to help out more around the house, but Anne stubbornly declines preferring to concentrate more on her studies. She especially gets plenty of confrontations with Mrs. Van Daan who thinks she is a spoiled little girl. Mrs. Van Daan constantly tells Anne’s father, “ If Anne were my daughter.” Anne’s respond to this in her diary was, “Thank heavens I’m not!” Of course
Do you ever get mad when your parents say you can’t do something or go anywhere? Well, imagine how Anne feels being isolated in that room all day long, every day. The story "Diary of Ann Frank" reveals what it’s like to transition from childhood to adulthood in the modern life. The theme of the story is living in oppression and how it affects Anne as a person, both physically and emotionally. For two years, Anne and her family along with another family are locked up in hiding in a secret loft. “The diary of Anne Frank” shows us that sometimes family is all we got but we have to make the best of it and be thankful we have our family. Anne Frank quoted “we all eat and read like one family” (page 230) This statement tells us that no matter what
In Anne’s diary her hideout, also the setting of the book, is a big reason why the diary is how it is. Because of their setting, it shows how the theme of war is all around the Franks and they are lucky not to be caught. For example, because they shared their home with an office building, the Franks witnessed some attempted robberies. On March 25,1943, Anne states, “ Mr.Van Daan got up and put on his coat and hat and followed Daddy cautiously downstairs, Peter took up the rear, armed with a large hammer in case of emergencies. The gentleman reappeared five minutes later and told us all was quiet in the house. The excitement had affected most of our tummies, you can imagine the atmosphere was like when we had each paid a visit in succession”. The burglaries in Anne’s diary remind us that every day they had to be worried about something. It kept the readers wondering what will happen next.
At first, Anne was terrified to go into hiding but her positivity and hope showed and taught many people lessons on how you should look at life. Anne had such a big influence on the people who read her diary. The play that was constructed off of her diary writings really lets us understand how and what Anne was feeling along with the others in the house. The Franks in addition to their friends, had people who helped them out while they were in hiding. This is one reason why Anne would have thought that people were really good at heart. One prime example is Miep Gies. She helped the Franks even though she was not faithful in the Jewish religion. Meip replenished everyone in the group by bringing them what they needed. She had a well thought out tactic that helped her be able to bring supplies to the secret annex. She never gave up on them and helped them through their entire hiding. This shows that people may not believe in the same things as you, but deep in their heart, they are willing to help anyone in need. The group of people hiding in the secret annex was in need, they had no way of getting food or any other supplies. This is where Miep came in to help them. She brought them the food, plus all of the supplies that they needed, therefore, making them live much longer than they should have. In the play, you could tell how happy the family was to see her. On page 326, we read, “Thank you, Miepia. You shouldn’t have done it.” this was
