Out of all of Our Franciscan Values which include, reverence the unique dignity of each person, encourage a trustful, prayerful community of learners, serve one another, society, and the Church, foster peace and justice, and respect creation. Although it took me a good portion of the semester, I believe that I fully recognize and understand the importance of these values as well as how they are put into play every single day here at USF. The core/human values that I have put into action this semester include serve one another, society, and the Church as well as reverence the unique dignity of each person. While seem to correlate to each other as both can be carried out by someone at any given time. Throughout my first semester here at USF, I believe that these two values are the easiest to be put into play within our lives and fall hand in hand with one another. …show more content…
My time spent at Community Harvest included a Thursday and a Friday where my first day spent there included packing bags full of food for senior citizens who would come to pick up their groceries throughout the day. Furthermore, each bag contained the same groceries which made this task fairly simple in comparison to my second day there. One my second day, I assisted those who were shopping for their groceries. Furthermore, I filled out forms which indicated how many pounds of food each person could take. My role was to keep track of 7-10 different shoppers at times while instructing them to what items they could take and how many pounds of those items. Senior citizens as well as those who are in an unfortunate situation benefitted from my actions due to the fact that I filled their bags with groceries and helped instruct people on what groceries they were allowed to
Personal values play a big part in our lives. The development of our personal values is an ongoing process, and is subject to change based on what we feel is most important to us. Life is full of twists and turns and may cause us to readjust our priorities. However, as a human service professional it is important to understand what our values are and how we can benefit those that we serve.
The values are the principles or standards which could include rules of conduct, respect, honesty, kindness, sharing and appreciation.
Personal values, beliefs, and principles are important for individuals to know about themselves. However, when asked the question, “what are your personal values, beliefs, and principles?” The first response is often a laundry list of characteristics with the assumption that those three words are synonymous. From my experience when posed this question the laundry list became long and in retrospect, I began to wonder what the differences were between each of these terms. As a teacher, employee, mother, and Christian knowing these differences and how to answer the question is an important component of determining how I make decisions when faced with ethical dilemmas. Hence, began the investigation of how the terms relate, their meaning and what my answer is to this question. Since my laundry list was quite long for this essay, I will share and explain the top two elements for each category, how they relate to one another and how the knowledge influences tough decisions.
A few core values that I place importance on in my life are responsibility and reliability. Respecting others is an extremely important value. I believe we all have a responsibility to be respectful because the respect that others are given is what is returned to you. I respect my teachers and do all
We value each person as an individual, respect their aspirations and commitments in life, and seek to understand their priorities, needs, abilities and limits.
Another ethical principles from the core values that I feel is strongly needed is social justice. I feel that is where Social Workers can make the most difference. Challenging the injustice vulnerable population face would help them get access to more resources. Challenging those injustice would also bring much needed awareness on issues vulnerable population faces daily. Social Justice is important because it would give policymakers the push they need to make changes regarding those defenseless
Another personal value of mine is promoting equality. I mentioned in the previous paragraph that certain groups of people have been oppressed in our society, thus I believe everyone should be treated equally. Women most certainly have, but I have also seen how certain ethnic groups in our society are continually oppressed against. I believe that all people should be treated the same. It does not matter what color skin you have, what religion group you belong to, or what sexual preference you have, we all bleed the same blood. Living in a low-income area in Saint Paul, I have seen first-hand how Asian Americans and African Americans are treated differently. My mother has always taught my sister and I to try and treat everyone with the same respect we would expect to receive; therefore, this personal value correlates well to the cultural competence and social diversity mentioned in the NASW Code of Ethics.
My job was to help separate and bag certain foods. A local pizza place donated a few boxes of pizza, which I bagged into singles for the homeless, which lacked cooking measures. We also separated fresh veggies, into two different size Ziploc bags, for different size families. On the 3rd floor, an older couple would bag food, according to a system they had in place. They would bag enough to fill a shelf; this made it easier when people came in. All the volunteers had to do was, take a bag that was about the size of the family
On August 4, 2015, Vivian Cu and I chose to volunteer at the Second Harvest Food Bank located on 700 Edwards Ave. in New Orleans. Our Tuesday morning of service started at 9AM and ended around 11:30AM. In preparation for my first time at Second Harvest, I wore comfortable clothes that were easy to move around in and that were possible to get dirty in. The man in charge of all volunteer services, Vince, quickly gave me my duty for the day. There is a huge case of canned goods and my job was to put as many canned goods as possible on a conveyor belt. The conveyor belt would carry these cans to many aisles where other volunteers would put them into smaller boxes that had to weigh from fifteen to thirty pounds. After packaging these boxes, Second
Values and morals are an integral part of life; values define who we are on a personal and professional level. My personal and professional values are similar but are used differently on a personal and professional level. In this code of ethics I have identified my core values as respect, honesty, loyalty, integrity, professionalism, and responsibility. Developing a code of ethics has provided me with an opportunity to reflect on my values and evaluate how I turn those values into action.
I was honored to partner with two local non-profits in our community to include The San Antonio Food Bank and Children’s Hunger Fund. My primary roles were to work collectively with other volunteers to fight hunger by delivering nutritious food to individuals and families in need. I helped package food and checked items for freshness. To ensure food was fresh I closely inventoried food for expiration dates, spoiled items and opened packages. Once food was inventoried, I then assisted with packaging items into boxes for delivery to those in need. I volunteered at the San Antonio Food Bank from May/19/2016 to Dec/1/2016 and the Children’s Hunger Fund for the month of April/2016.
My personal values act as a basis for determining right and wrong in my daily life. My life, my parents, my husband and my children have all played valuable roles in the development of my core values. The following is an ever changing personal ethics creed, that I plan on using to help guide me in my endeavors.
Values often use modified methods and styles; I have utilized these different ethics in my career, which has aided me in improving, the environment at work and in my life. Having these particular skills of approaching situations causes an optimistic environment, respect for others, honesty, and reliable outcomes. I have had the comfort of knowing whether, you’re working or at home or out in public, individuals appreciate this kind of merit. These values cause high points in your character with families, patients and your colleagues. Real richness comes from knowing you’re assisting patients with top-quality care, and these goals are obtainable. Identification of these values prepares an
Values: I believe my values “that are most important” (Christians, 2013, p.1) apply to this situation are as follows:
In addition to my mission statement, my core life values are the foundation of my mission statement, which allows me to uphold my promises and standards. These promises and standards will afford me the opportunity to improve the life of others and myself for the better. Therefore, there are four particular core values that I live by each and every day. The four values are commitment, compassion, dedication, and optimism. The first core value, commitment, embodies the theme of loyalty and honor. I work hard each day to live up to the promises that I make to finish tasks, help others, and meet the expectations that I place on myself or by others. The second core value that I live by is compassion because I wholeheartedly believe in being kind to everyone and helping those in need. The third value that I live by is dedication. Along with the previous two values, dedication is an important factor because being dedicated to someone or something allows a person to display that person’s character of being steadfast and passionate—even in the face of adversity. The fourth and final value that is a foundation for my personal mission is
