In the book Spare Parts, the tittle is a metaphor for the boy’s experience because it literally goes along on how they built their Robot Stinky, Stinky was built using spare parts from people that were impressed by the kids. Greg De Tray helped them out by letting them borrow on of his devises, “I tell you. You guys want to use my range finder on your robot, I’ll send you one. You can borrow it”. Frank Swankoski, gave the guys hope in their experiment and that they could actually beat the guys from MIT “we got people believing in us, so now we got to believe in ourselves.” Donald Rodocker was happy to lend one of his prototypes to the kids after Oscar blurted out a question because of the previous generosity that had been offered to the team.
