Fraternity President Case Study

Monroe, NC, July 12, 2017 – The ladies of the Gamma Upsilon Sigma Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. have been busy during the fourth quarter of the 2016-2017 fiscal year. The chapter’s activities included welcoming four new members, expansion on the campus of Wingate University, Susan G Komen Pink Sunday, and celebrating 52 years of service.

Thank you for accepting our invitation to your induction as a member of the Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society on March 23, 2016.

Our recruitment chair is helping others envision our chapter with new women that are smart, want to be active and engaged, and that are fun people. By realigning the women we want to represent our chapter, we have been able to get our members to be more optimistic towards next fall. We are also having more workshops and retreats that discuss what we, as a chapter need to improve and how we can get there. Those conversations have been so helpful in encouraging everyone and in showing them that the executive board does not make all of the decisions. We need their help because technically we serve their best interests.

When becoming an Alum of the best university, Oklahoma State University, I want to continue to support the university that helped to further my future. Spreading the word of the opportunities that Oklahoma State offers has a large impact on the number of students that attend this university. I plan to let many potential students know what this college has done and continues to do for me. I would love to see that Alpha Zeta has a large role in campus activities, and continues to grow membership each year. My name is Jacob Dube and I currently serve as the President of the Florida Chapter of Delta Chi here at the University of Florida. In 1776, you all made a decision that would forever change the course of college history at the College of William and Mary and many other universities nationwide as you created the first American collegiate fraternity. I cannot express my gratitude for you as you all paved the way for the Greek system in a college and university setting. The Greek experience is one of a kind to all of its members, and it has helped produce some of the most successful people in our country. I would like to share to you some great news about today’s Greek systems here at the University of Florida and how you helped shape the success of so many Greek students.

Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Incorporated purpose is to be of service to all mankind dealing with critical issues in communities domestically and internationally. HCC's Omega Sigma chapter recently won two Awards of Merit at the Phi Theta Kappa-Texas Regional conference. Both their community service College Project and Honors in Action research project were recognized.

The purpose of the newsletter chosen is to update the Fraternity and Sorority Life community on the upcoming week and past achievements. This may include, a congratulations to a chapter after receiving an award, past accomplishments through the Greek Honorary Societies, and current upcoming events such as, application due dates, meeting information, event reminders, and job opportunities on The University of Akron’s campus. Newsletters help inform readers and receive individuals interested in opportunities such as, community service, Risk Management events, fundraising events at Chipotle, Circle of Sisterhood t-shirt orders, and forms that need to completed and returned to the Center for Service and Leadership Administration Desk in the Fraternity and Sorority Life Community.

C. Ongoing support for a colony We realize the first five years of a new chapter are special. During this period, the chapter is growing its sisterhood and forming its identity on campus. To ensure longevity at Adelphi, the chapter must develop a strong sisterhood, employ successful operational skills and learn how to be self-sufficient. Kappa’s Five-Year New Chapter Support Plan addresses the new chapter’s specific needs and helps the chapter step by step through the challenges of each year. The New Chapter Support Team consists of volunteers and staff members who work closely with the new chapter in its infancy. This team includes: • The New Chapters Chairman is an alumna volunteer of Kappa Kappa Gamma. She is responsible for providing strategic oversight to ensure the implementation of the Five-Year New Chapter Support Plan, guiding chapter development during the first five years, and facilitating positive relationships with all volunteers supporting the new chapter. She works closely with the Coordinator of Chapter Development assigned to the new chapter. Together, they develop and implement an overall strategy for a successful establishment.
