My people living in The United States take being a free country for granted. Many citizens do not realize how many different countries are not free, or only partial free. One country that is partially free is Papua New Guinea, this country is located north of Australia, which is a free country. A country that is not free is Zimbabwe, which is located in the continent of Africa. Africa has countries that are free, partially, and not free. However they are mainly not free. People who live in a non-free or partially free country live very different live than people in a free country. Countries run their government in many different ways. Some countries use a majority rule and others choose a different route. The United States is run by a president that serves a four year term, and is elected by the people. The president is supported by the members of the House of Representatives and the Senate. In Papua New Guinea, a partially free country, is run by a unicameral that is voted by the people. Voters have the option of voting for up to three people, and the candidate with the most votes wins. There are 111 members in the National Parliament. According to DemocracyWeb, “the governor-general, who represents the United Kingdom’s monarch as head of state, formally appoints the prime minister, who leads the majority party or coalition in the legislature” (1). This is an example of how the government continues to take control of the people of Papua New Guinea. Unlike
I myself believe freedom in a way is free and not free. But in this case i am going to side with the fact that freedom is not free. Freedom is given to us but at what cost. Growing up you are taught to believe America is home to the “free” and brave, we were always told how lucky we are to live in a free country where we are able to do as we please and in other places they do not receive freedom as easily as we do. What is it that makes us free, is it because we choose to be or because of the actions taken and sacrifices made to obtain this freedom. In order to maintain this freedom we are forced to attack other countries and take away others freedom. Some may say this is politically okay or correct and others not so much, some are all for
The two features of structure of parliament and election are fundamental to Indonesia. The People’s Consultative Assembly has two chambers: the People’s Representative Council (DPR) and the Regional Representative Council (DPD), however only the DPR has the final decision to pass, change or reject any laws. The political system of Indonesia is a republic and doesn't involve a Queen, with a president being the head of State. This system is a specific example of the United States of America's parliament as its follows these characteristics. Elections for the DPR and DPD are held every five years. For a president be elected, they have to get at least 281 of the 560 electorates in the DPR. Voting is not compulsory. Voters must register before an election in order to be able to vote. Citizens can vote when they are 17 years old or earlier if they are married, however voting is not compulsory.
But if you feel freedom is the ability to do what u want within certain boundary or guidelines then America is free. In my opinion America is a free country. This is because I feel like freedom has boundaries there no such thing as 100% freedom without consequences. Everything you do has consequences.
Jaweed Kaleem, in his article “In the ‘land of the free’, are you free to sit out the national anthem?” explains the controversy around the subject of not partaking in the national anthem, and why it’s not solemnly based on the assumption that the individual is disregarding the country or the people that protect it but rather an act of protest towards the prejudice and inequality that the black community continues to face. Kaleem supports his explanation by bringing up esteemed athletes such as Colin Kaepernick and renowned professors like Peter Dreier who are educated on the matter, and continuously advocate for it whether it’s using their social media platforms like Kaepernick or frequently writing articles on sports politics like Dreier.
True freedom is not something that can be given. It is something that every single person must discover for themselves. If a person were set free, though still thought of themselves as a slave, they are a slave. America is a country that thrives on freedom. Though numerous people throughout the United States take this privilege for granted.
Today’s America is clearly, completely, different then it was in the 1900’s. The people have more freedom than ever. There are still circumstances where the people are restricted. There is still racism “ignorance”, homophobia, and sexism. Modern day slavery, cults, and war are still practiced and active today. America has never been truly free. America should practice what it preaches which is “The land of the Free”. The America that the rest of the world sees and wants to be part of. “The Land of The free” is the reason people come to America. To escape the restrictions. It’s been defined that the American Dream is “the ideal that every US citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination,
When our founding fathers were drafting out the Declaration of Independence they knew then that the British were not going to take our stance for independence without a fight. Even before the first signature was placed upon our countries most valued document they knew there would be bloodshed. But, deciding to fight for our own freedom was the only way we could govern ourselves and make
Freedom is defined as the state of being free or at liberty rather than in confinement. It is the power to determine action without restraint and the exemption from external control, interference, and regulation. Americans, these days, commonly regard their society as the freest and the best in the world. Their understanding of freedom has been shaped and based upon the founding fathers’ belief that all people are equal and that the role of the government is to protect each person’s basic “inalienable” rights. The United States Constitution’s Bill of Rights assures individual rights including freedom of speech, press, and religion. America has changed dramatically from the country our founding fathers discovered. Some could even argue that
The ability to be free made this country into the melting pot it is today and that ability still brings many immigrants who believe in the “American Dream” to the country. Today freedom is often overlooked because all of us are use to it, but in many countries freedom is just the “American Dream”.
United States of America, home of the brave and land of the greedy. While free is the word that is usually a part of that statement, there are many countries that would disagree with you on word choice. For example, no one enjoys a country that helps fund your country’s dictatorship only because they do not want communism spreading through the political system like wild fire. Hundreds of soldiers trained and many innocent dead. While the American’s were not pulling the triggers, they were giving the guns and training the army to fight and kill all who seemed to be siding with the communist party. Yet many do not know that America would do this to small little El Salvador. While in turmoil, El Salvador has always been a country of peaceful
"It's a free country." This is a phrase we often hear spoken ironically, rebelliously, or even sarcastically. Rarely, though, is it spoken with any real air of gratitude or sincerity. This becomes a problem when one examines the deeper connotations and history of this seemingly innocent phrase. Wars were fought, blood was shed over this handful of words, and yet they are taken for granted. The initial fight for liberty culminated more than 200 years ago, but since then, many amendments to the constitution have been put into place. And that means somebody fought to put them there. The initial constitutional rights were very broad and basic, so during ratification it was pivotal to many states that a Bill of Rights be included before the constitution
Freedom does not come without a cost. American individuals have to earn their freedom from the limits preventing them from being free. The Second world war was the deadliest war in history and fought between the Allies (Great Britain, Soviet Union, United States, and France) and the Axis Powers (Germany, Italy, and Japan) from 1939 - 1945. Sparked by Adolf Hitler's Invasion of Poland in 1939, Great Britain and France declared war on Germany. Hitler's Invasion of Poland until the end of the war with Japan's surrender in 1945, many nations were at war, some fighting for the ultimate victory. The war dragged on for six deadly years until the Allies defeated both Germany and Japan in 1945. America was at war to maintain freedoms savored individually
The Westminster system enables a government to be defeated, or forced into a general election, independently of a new government being chosen. For example on august 2011 Somare government was dismissed by the parliament and Peter O’Neill was elected as the new Prime Minister at the floor of parliament. And finally a parliament which can be dissolved and elections called at any time by the parliament alone with absolute majority in favours. As in Melanesia some features are experience by Papua New Guinea and some other Melanesian island as well but these nations amend their constitution on the bases of their own cultural and traditional aspects.
In today's society there is little significance to this quote because of it is not always safe to be unpopular. There are too many critics and too many different levels of people in society/schools/world.
Is freedom really free? A lot of people argue about this topic, but I believe that freedom is not free because we all as a society fight for our freedom every day. My first example is in the book Fahrenheit 451 the main idea is censored objects and everyone not being avail to have the freedom to believe in books. Another reason why freedom is not free is because how America fought for our freedom, freedom is something that we need to monitor, it is something that is worth fighting for, and it is something that is limited, even in a “free” country. However you may hear America was a “free” country but what about are our limits? Yes I believe that freedom has to be monitored for our safety, but not as individuals we should be available to speak our minds out and say our opinion on what we believe in.
