During my sophomore and junior years, I was part of an engineering team in a free mentorship program that focused on architecture, construction, and engineering. I learned about it through my school, and joined to explore career options. My first project was building a bridge, and my second was repurposing the Morton Salt Factory into a community center. I learned about tools and ideas such as space flow, AutoCAD, Revit, and environmental engineering. On the surface, it may seem that the program only benefits students interested in engineering. However, I also gained communication and presentation skills, which are applicable to any situation when working with others. This program has had a significant impact on my academics because I use my

Attached is a completed application for the mentoring program I would like to pursue. Not sure if I have overstepped my boundary, but I have discussed this with my RA, Nick Lalpuis, and he supports the proposal. I also discussed this with Laura Watson this morning and she is in agreement with it as well. Please advise if there are any additional documentation or steps I need to go through to get
Peer mentoring is one of a range of peer support frameworks used in schools where students provide support to other students. Peer mentoring provides an alternative avenue of support by offering support from the peer group rather than adults. Research has shown that students respond well to peer mentors and feel a connection with someone that is closer to their age and more closely connected to the experience of high school. The mentors serve in a dichotomous role as older more experienced source of support that one can turn to for advice and guidance, while simultaneously serving as a friend and peer that one can relax and have fun with. This is a role that many times adult mentors cannot fulfill, which makes peer mentoring unique and sometimes
Becoming a Link Unlimited Scholar will be a wonderful opportunity for me as well as my child, since this will be a first time experience. I like to be opened minded to new things that’s going to better me, and my child and that’s going to put a positive out-look on life. Reading more into their program I’ve learned a variety of things that is offered inside the program. They offer support mentally to students by getting them prepared for the future. Providing a support system with a one on one mentor will help the students to succeed in life and, especially if the child has a hard time opening up to their parents. Having a mentor to look up to when they don’t have no one else to guide them on the right path. This program is beneficial to help
Helpful Mentor My mentor Deb, understood that I struggled being confident when I interacted with patients. Knowing that about me, Deb found ways to help me improve my confidence, especially the times I had to be the nurse. Taking on the role of a nurse during admissions was nerve-racking, but as I continued admitting patients during clinicals, I began to feel more relaxed and confident. Deb always made sure that I was learning something new and would have me set up goals for myself each clinical day.
The "mentor-student future planning club" is the club that I would create if I had the ability to . In this club teachers with previous experience in other careers than their own will be mentoring groups of children that know what they want to do with their future. Students who are already driven to go to one career will be taught more in depth about said career by the teacher that has done it before or on the side of teaching. Many student these days know what they want to do when they "grow" up since they remember, but some not as fortunate as them are not quite positive of what they want their futures to have in store.
From birth to adulthood, children go through countless emotional, academic and social transitions. Towards the culmination into adulthood, young adults experience a transition from middle school to high school. When students transition from middle school to high school, things change as they head into adulthood, there are several new social and academic adjustments ahead. Such as, peer pressures, navigating a new environment, bigger challenges with classes and homework, and peer pressure. Schools often try to develop programs that will help students successfully make this transition. One tool that can assist in making the transition seamless is an onsite mentoring program at the high school level. A school mentoring program could offer assistance in many areas for example, tutoring, time management, behavior, social skills, and development of positive relationships. At risk students can benefit greatly from a mentoring program. The past decade has seen widespread enthusiasm for school mentoring as a way to address the needs and problems of youth (Herrera, Kauh, Cooney, Grossman & McMaken, 2008). In the last seven to ten years, high school mentor programs have become very popular across the country.
I want to be a mentee because the Mentorship program is a fantastic way to familiarize with the school and meeting people with other background. Obviously, as an incoming freshman, I do not know much people, so the Mentorship program as a chance to break the ice and to make connections in school and among peers. Also, I am not familiar with the state of Michigan, so the program also serves as an opportunity to get accustomed with the new environment, the new climate, and the new culture. I was born and raised in Taiwan, and moved to California five years later; I realize the difference from one place to another. Michigan is a whole new place and it is imperative that I learn how to adjust and behave in an appropriate way. Through the program,
An extracurricular activity that I cherish is the robotics program at my school. In the robotics club, it allows students to learn how to do 3D designing, use a 3D printer, and coding. This allows me to broaden my horizon on different aspects of engineering. For instance, learning how to 3D design allows you to create a variety of things such as tools or parts for a project and then I can 3D print the items I designed. This gives me an advantage because not only am I able to design a mechanism, but I am also capable to of using the 3D printer to build the mechanism I designed. For these very reasons, the robotics club is important to me.
Thanks for your interest in the UXPA RVA Chapter. We're excited about building a strong chapter.
It is my understanding that for the remainder of this course, the audience will consist of my current and future colleagues, along with anyone seeking a particular interest in adolescent mentoring. In order to determine a sufficient basis for comparison, I would need to first understand who my potential audience or reader might be. To do that, I began asking myself several questions from an outside point of view, to acquire concerns that relate to this particular subject: the benefits that could be gained from the essay; the side a reader could take, and if, more or less convincing would be needed as a result; and the overall, background knowledge of the audience—to help establish the amount of information that could be safely left out. After
One thing I believe is a necessity in growing up is having a mentor. Having a mentor is, not only, beneficial for the mentee but also the mentor. Being a mentor is a learning experience for everyone participating, it helps people grow as a person and friendships are created when a bond if formed. Some people might think it's a waste of time for a child or that it'll never work out for a troubled delinquent but based on the research I've done, I have proven them wrong. Through-out this paper I will provide the pros and cons of mentoring and how they affect both mentor and mentee. To back up my proposal that mentoring is supporting, I will supply examples to answer the question: Is mentoring really important?
For my twelve service hours, I decided to dedicate my time to one organization. That organization is known as College Mentors for Kids. College Mentors for Kids is a program specifically designed for elementary and college aged students. It is a nonprofit organization that works with over 2,000 students and mentors one day a week on a college campus. This program can be found throughout nine states and on 33 different college campuses. I am fortunate enough to be attending Ball State University, which is home to the largest chapter in the country for the program. The program’s main focus is to acknowledge the importance of higher education and career growth as you get older. There are a variety of ways the members of this organization accomplish
Mentorship is very important in the workplace especially in the area of training and development. The mentor-protégé relationship is a much needed relationship that begins in the early career stage and this relationship involves the current or new employees and the supervisor or other colleagues that provide work-related guidance. The relationship itself is comprehensive and involves “educational, occupational, physical, social, and spiritual development” (Greenhaus,, Callanan, & Godshalk, 2010, p 211). One of the initial task of the early career the establishment of the career field which involves the gaining of the workplace competence, learn what is needed to excel in the organization, and to gain acceptance in the workplace to be recognized as the valued employee. There are many ways of achieving the above mentioned advantages in the workplace which one main method is through the use of the mentorship program.
I have been mentored at several stages in my career and to great effect. I received prerequisite training in leadership early when I joined the Air Force. My civilian career path led me to partner with and mentor several groups of employees who were direct reports. Simultaneously I was receiving training of different types in a variety of areas, such as, Sigma Six, The 8 Habits, and instruction in projects management, employee guidance, customer service, contract negotiations, even Site Start-up and Equipment transitioning. By far the largest project i have overseen logistically was while I was at Mayer Brown. I oversaw the replacement of all copiers and related equipment for all 14 floors of the Law Firm and its sister site located in the
