When in love we can't choose who to be attracted to or who we love or want to be, it just happens. For example, when Juliet and Romeo first met at the party they felt a connections, but later when he was leaving she told the nurse to “ go ask his name…”(396). “ His name is Romeo, and a MONTAGUE…”(396). She couldn't believe her “ only true love sprung from [my only] hate.” She didn't choose to love him it was destined to happen. The same goes for Romeo. When he found out she was a capulet, he was more in love with her that after the party he broke into her house and was in her backyard. Fate controls our destiny because we don't have a choice sometimes in life, but that’s fate. Our life was already planned for us and we just have to go through
Fate has always been of interest to society, and even today, people continue to question whether someone’s life is destined for a certain fate, or if it is shaped by their own free-will. Such thoughts come into play throughout various acts and scenes of Shakespeare 's Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare’s play often strongly suggests that Romeo and Juliet’s relationship is built upon fate and free-will. There are many critics who argue fate is what makes up this play in its entirety due to the various fate related ideas evoked throughout it. Although fate does indeed play some roles in the shaping of Romeo and Juliet’s relationship, overall, it is free-will that plays a much greater role throughout their tragedy and is ultimately at work in this play.
Fate of Romeo and Juliet Marcus Aurelius says, “Accept the things to which fate binds you, and love the people with whom fate brings you together, but do so with all your heart.” This quote shows one how to love the people fate brings to them. In Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare, the play shows an example of fate bringing two people together. However, Shakespeare gives the readers an example of how fate can cause love and tragedy. Throughout the play Romeo and Juliet, fate affects characters such as the plague, Mercutio, and Tybalt's death.
In the famous play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, there is an argument that Romeo and Juliet’s love was free will, meaning that they had complete control over their actions. However, that is simply not true. Destiny is defined as a decision from a higher power, like karma, an event that you don’t have control over. Destiny can cause unexpected or normal events to happen. Romeo and Juliet's love was destined to fail because both of their parents hated each other, they didn’t meet by coincidence, and they rushed their relationship.
The characters themselves believe that there lives are controlled by fate and luck it was Romeo blames his misfortune down to the stars he was portrayed as a believer in fate rather than free will he had a feeling from the very beginning of the play that he and Juliet would never really end up together and that fate would get I the
Fate has a big effect on what happens, but it also suggests that people might be able to do things to change fate. It means that even though fate is strong, people can still make choices that might go against what fate has planned. Fate only contributes a little bit to Romeo and Juliet, but not freewill. The factor of Freewill had a greater impact than fate was when Romeo was in love with Juliet and Romeo's decision to pursue his love for Juliet. Another one is Romeo and his decision to marry her in secret, without the consent of their families, and risking his life is an act driven by his freewill and passion for Juliet.
Free Will is when you are making the decisions on your own, that nothing is meant to be unless you make it happen. Fate states that your story is already written for you. So, if your story is already written out, can you change it? The tragedy of Romeo and Juliet was the result of free will. The tragedy was mainly caused by the actions made by Romeo and Juliet leading up to their deaths. Romeo and Juliet made decisions such as, deciding to sneak out and deciding to get married. These decisions created the path for them to commit suicide. The way Romeo and Juliet rebel on purpose and the deaths of Romeo and Juliet prove why the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet was the result of free will.
Did Fate lead the couple couple together? The Capulets servant had given Romeo an invitation to the party for helping him. That was deciding factor in whether or not Romeo and Juliet met. Romeo originally wasn’t gonna go to the party but his friends Benvolio and Mercutio forced him to go. Romeo has previously gone through heartbreak and they wanted to help their sad friend by finding him a new girl. The party was meant to see if Paris was fit for Juliet to be his wife. Romeo however took that chance, swooped
The fact that Free Will didn’t take control of the story; it left Fate to be the murder of the lovers. Fate first kicked in when their eyes met at the Capulet party. When Romeo and Juliet spoke, their words had powerful contentment; they had such a strong feeling for one another that they could lay in each other’s arms forever. Their happiness didn’t last long; there were many reasons for this, for example; the marriage Lord Capulet arranged between Paris and Juliet. I believe that the plot of the play thus far leads the audience to believe that the deaths were a result of fate. The last act will determine once and for all if it is Fate or Free Will. Romeo again challenges Fate by
In the play, Romeo and Juliet written by William Shakespeare, is about two “star crossed” lovers who are destined to end in a tragic accident. Fate is the path that leads to the future and cannot be altered no matter the outcome. Set in Shakespearean time, fate was believed to be in control of people’s lives. The fact that Romeo and Juliet would never live a peaceful life, none of the tragedies would have not taken place if they had not met. In the prologue of the play, Shakespeare outlines that “two star’d crossed lovers take their life”. This foreshadowing creates the sense that fate shall claim superiority. The powerful nature of Romeo
When people think of love, they generally think of positive emotions. Romeo and Juliet is a well-known tragic love story written by Shakespeare. In the story, Romeo and Juliet constantly fight for love, despite the many obstacles the run into. Love is what brought them together, but could love be Romeo and Juliet’s downfall? Going into detail, the emotion of love caused Romeo and Juliet to take many risks and distort their ability to make proper decisions based on logic. That’s why love is to blame for Romeo and Juliet’s death.
Youth and love is a mix that can lead to self-destruction. In Shakespeare's play, Romeo and Juliet, two lovers take their own lives in order to be together forever. Their deaths prove to be the solution that ends the feud between their families, but a new conflict arises to take its place. This is a conflict not between the Montagues and Capulets, but instead between fate and free will. Many argue that the “star-crossed lovers” had no control over their destiny, but what if they did?
The deaths of Romeo and Juliet were freewill because of the choices they decided to make along the way. There was many times throughout the story where Romeo and Juliet could have prevented their deaths. For instance, Romeo could have handled Tybalt better, Juliet followed the priest plan, and finally it was Romeos free will to kill himself.
After Romeo was Banished from the city it seemed their love was just destined for tragedy, but fate had other plans. In Act I, as Lord Capulet's servant is searching for someone who can read the guest list to him, Benvolio and Romeo enter. Completely by chance, Capulet's servant meets Romeo and Benvolio, wondering if they know how to read. This accidental meeting shows the importance of fate in the story. When Romeo got to the ball he said “I fear, too early, for my mind misgives some consequence. Yet hanging in the stars shall bitterly begin his fearful date with this night’s revels and expire the term of a despised life closed to my breast by some vile forfeit of untimely death”. (1.4 113-118) Romeo was saying he feels like something was going to happen that was meant to be. But fate wasn’t on their side the whole story as their families got in the way and they were separated. After Romeo was banished he said, “I am a fortunes fool”. (3.1. 142) Meaning that fate was not on his side. Fate also wasn’t on their side when Friar Lawrence had a perfect plan set up that Romeo and Juliet would forever live happily alone, but a message was never delivered to Romeo. Instead Benvolio told him that Juliet was dead, and Romeo killed himself to be with her in the afterlife, but she was still
In William Shakespeare's tragic play Romeo and Juliet, there are four quotes about fate and choice. The characters in the play choose their own fate, it happens because of their choices or actions. First, in the beginning of the play Romeo and Juliet are referred to as 'a pair of star-crossed lovers' (Romeo and Juliet, Prologue). Second, Romeo explains to Mercutio how he has a dream that if he goes to the Montague party he will die, but Romeo chooses to go to the party anyway. Third, Romeo kills Tybalt right after his marriage to Juliet. Fourth, Romeo decides to commit suicide because he hears of Juliet's death.
“When two people are meant to be together, they will be together. It is fate” (Gruen 273). This is a quote that the author, Sara Gruen, stated in her book, “Water for Elephants”, which is also about a love story. This quote makes it evident that Romeo and Juliet were meant to be together, and they were together, but only eternally; that is why fate made them meet each other. There are several characters in William Shakespeare`s Romeo and Juliet whose fates were already predestined, especially the main characters themselves, Romeo and Juliet. The outcome of Romeo and Juliet was a result of the characters’ fate and not individual choices. It is fate that made Romeo and Juliet meet each other and fall in love, despite the fact that their families
