Economically we don’t have the means to live out what we strive for. Education wise we have none, we are not sufficient enough to read or write for us to have a better life. Douglass in this speech stresses to leave us alone we are cable of doing bad or good on our own. His would view principle of self-ownership, which he understood to include both the racial and equality.

The Freedom from imprisonment or enslavement from those who holds a person against their power or will. However, when freedom is expressed by an ex-slaved, their views are completely different. Ex-slaves found it difficult to adjust to the liberal freedom because they have to deal with relocating families, no political rights to vote, and the ability to establish land.

Fredrick Douglass (1818-1945), both a fugitive slave and a free man, was one of the most courageous and influential leaders of the abolitionist movement. His narrative, published in 1845, illustrates his childhood and early manhood experiences as a salve, as well as his escape to the North and find of freedom. Douglass is a powerful speaker for the abolitionist movement and became a leader of the anti-slavery movement. One of the main reasons for his writing of the Narrative was to prove to critics that such a well-spoken and expressive man could not have once been a slave. Douglas eventually gains the resources and convictions to escape to the North and wage a political fight against the institution of slavery. Everyone has the right to Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Every man has these rights but unfortunately slaves and women do not. Women do not receive the same rights as men do. They get paid less and don't get hired as often as men do. Slaves do not get any rights to do anything and get punished for their actions. Women at least have some rights as men do but Slaves however, Man or Women, are not given any rights at all. The reform movement that I feel best represents Frederick Douglass’s statement would be the Abolition movement. His statement goes with this movement because he had lead the abolitionist movement and his main goal was to free all slaves. Douglass firmly believed in equality among all people. He had once been a slave, and he knew how horribly mistreated they were. Slaves had been degraded by a majority of white people. It would have seemed as if all odds were against them. They had been denied justice for years, they had been oppressed, and they had been treated terribly, and made to feel like they were lower than the white man.
