As children grow up, they become the person they turn out to be because of experiences and the culture and society they grew up in. Nations are affected in the same sense because the people living in a nation affect how the nation is influenced and builds its character.

Throughout the past, discrimination has been a common topic in history around the world. World problems, battles and wars have been fought over discrimination against different races and religions, and problems like that still happen today. Over race or religion, discrimination has been a problem in the past and the present time and it is something that needs to change. In the past, discrimination of race can be shown in the movie Remember the Titans, where the discrimination of blacks are in the 1970s. In a number of videos about Jane Elliott and her experiment shows how eye color and other small things can be a basis of discrimination and the What Would You Do? videos show discrimination in common society. Lastly in the near present day, the case of EEOC v. Abercrombie & Fitch the famous clothing company was caught discriminating against religious clothing. These all address the idea that separating and discriminating against people based on their race, religion, and other factors is wrong and a problem.

Race is, a group of people sharing the same culture, history, language, or an ethnic group. In the USA, we are made up of literally hundreds of different ethnic groups, with different races. From African Americans to mexicans, and from scottish to Chinese, we all are different. Does that mean we can put them down, and fight them because of the difference? On September 25, 1789, the United State’s government passed a bill, The Bill of Rights. This bill gives every US citizen, 27 rights. From the freedom of religion, to abolitioning slavery. The fourteenth amendment says we all have the Right to be free from discrimination. So even with a law that says you can’t discrimination, people do.

One very monumental event in the history of the United States is the ratification and signing of the United States Constitution.This took place in the year 1787 .The Bill of Rights is actually the part of the constitution that defines the rights of the citizens of the United States.This significant document helped spell out individual rights and freedoms.Although the signing of the U.S. Constitution solved many problems it failed to solve the problem of discrimination against African Americans,women and gays and along with that the ongoing issue of Slavery.

The fight against racial discrimination in the America has continued, it may be said that the struggle has become particularly difficult in the 21st century. The laws and policies claim that only few forms of discriminations remain, in reality, racial discrimination is still existent in the US, it has continued to hinder the enjoyment of fundamental human rights by many individuals who belong to the minor racial and ethnic groups (Alexander, 2013). When the framers decided to create the Constitution, it was meant to be made for the people by the people. The difficult part about it was, as time went by, people were given more rights and were unjustly discriminated because of the past. This has happened in many cases throughout our countries history. Civil rights are a big part of our society and the past shows many ways that the civil rights of the citizens were taken from. In Unit 2 of the course, we learned three different ways the government can discriminate the people of the United States and the meticulous process it takes the government to discriminate. The different ways to discriminate are separated into three different classifications which are, Suspect classification, Quasi-Suspect classification, and Nonsuspect classification. Even though everyone has civil rights the government can sometimes discriminates to ensure the safety of the society. Which rarely happens. Discrimination is a big part of our government and well never be solved, but there are many reasons behind the most complicated subject in our society.

Kenji Yoshino, author of “The New Civil Rights” says that in order for us to turn our current beliefs into a set of ‘new’ civil rights, law must play a role. Obvious enough, law alone cannot bring about a new set of civil rights. There are more than enough pieces that could make up this puzzle. For instance, media plays a huge role in this situation. The media only shows what they want us, the people, to see. If we only see what they want us to see then wouldn’t that leave us very narrow-minded? Over the years, equality has enhanced due to the improvement of presidential classifications. Up until the election of 2017, equality and civil rights have improved. Majority of the people have gained their civil rights, while equality has become more superior. There has been some complications with new rights. Society also lacks a supply of inspiring authority figures lately, more than in the past.

The video we had watched was really interesting. I really resonated with the idea that no matter how hard Mexican Americans tried, they were never good enough. There are many minority groups that feel this way within the United States, including women. Civil Rights are still something people are fighting for today. This story was unique in the specific group it helped, but it was not unique in what the group was working toward. Discrimination is something that many people face and have faced, but today there are more programs and services in place to ensure that rules and laws are fair. It is important to acknowledge that change has happened because more people of color were allowed to have input in government and areas of society.

The example is always black. A statement that pretty much summed up what 's wrong with America today. Every time you turn on the news, you see something negative about minorities. The white population commits the same crimes and the minorities, but the minorities are I totally agree with Marc Lamont Hill 's views on the racism that still exists in the world. Minorities are unfairly targeted on a regular basis. Whether they are unfairly treated in the workplace,school systems, or by the police department, it seems to be getting worse every day. The recent rash of police shooting of unarmed minorities is clear evidence of this.

Back then, discrimination was outright and the law proudly upheld it with only few people standing up against the concept and its associated practices. First, discrimination make individual feel worthless and like they do not belong in society. For example, if there are two individuals applying for the same job position, but the one that looks more like the person that is doing the hiring gets the job but not the one that is more qualified is a strong explanation of discrimination in America. This will affect American people because everyone would not get an equal share of the opportunities that everyone deserves.
