French Fascination With Food

The delicacy of French cuisine, the diet du jour, a multiple sensory experience, wine, chocolate mousse, cheese. When one thinks of French cuisine, these are some of the aspects that run through our minds. The attraction to French food and the culture that presumes around it are what make French dinning so appeasing to the masses. Yet, when one thinks about the sensual delight of French cuisine and its affect no one would ever guess that the French cuisine, in all its glory, would be associated with concepts such as international technology availability, French agricultural research expenditures, or sustainable agriculture. It is better for the price of French agricultural production in the long run. It appears that over a period of time, there has been a percentage increase in crop products. For example, in 1980 the poultry production of France increased by 195.8%, 4.9% of the total output value.(Bouchet,,1989) With such dramatic increases, France has been able to supply more people with jobs because the price is conducive with labor. France has been able to sustain adequate maintenance of jobs in the agricultural production sector. One of France’s socioeconomic goals is to provide employment to facilitate many of its citizens. Ways in which France hopes to do this is to: 1.) Maintain and help create employment 2.)Facilitate installation of young farmers 3.)Help in farm transmission.(Gafsi,,2006)

In 2005, France’s food retail industry generated total revenues of $236.2 billion, 3% more from 2004 and is expected to accelerate to attain $268 billion in 2010.(Datamonitor USA, 2006) With the growing popularity of organic produce, France will have to deal with the industry’s rate of growth or decrease, depending on the marketplace embracing higher food values. The success of the French food retail market is directly related to the producers and manufacturers of the agricultural sector of the industry.
