However, in the article “Frequently Asked Questions About Animal Cruelty” by The Humane Society of the United States, it states that “ Animal cruelty, like any other form of violence, is often committed by a person who feels powerless, unnoticed, or under the control of others. The motive may be to shock, threaten, intimidate, or offend others or to demonstrate rejection of society's rules. Some who are cruel to animals copy acts they have seen or that have been done to them. Others see harming an animal as a safe way to get revenge against—or threaten—someone who cares about that animal.” (The Humane Society of the United States, 2017) This states that there are reasons why people do what they do to the animals but it still doesn’t give them the right to harm or mistreat them. The article also states that
Every 60 seconds an animal is abused. Dogs, cats, horses, and many other types of animals are being neglected and tortured everyday, yet resulting in few and minor consequences for the perpetrators. Animal abuse is prevalent in the United States and has been an ongoing issue since the 1970's, and prior to. Society as a whole has chosen to avoid the facts and arguments about animal cruelty, because to some it is seen as acceptable and typical. It becomes much more frowned upon when people actually see the results of the cruelty, especially in the media.
Many people may not know that animal cruelty has been around for hundreds of years. . In the article "Animal Cruelty Prosecution" published by American Prosecution Research Institute found that, The Puritans of the Massachusetts Bay Colony established “The Body of Liberties” found by the Animal Cruelty Prosecution, in 1641. The Body of Liberties was a document written for the protection of animals from unnecessary pain and suffering. Animal cruelty happens every day whether it is from starving, beating, lack of medical care or proper housing for animals. We are in need of stricter laws to help fight the rights of animals. Animal laws should be more strict on people
Often times, people think of animals as another member of their family. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Every year, there are nearly one million animals getting abused and suffering at the hands of human beings. Animal cruelty occurs when someone harms or ignores an animal purposely. “The most common types of abuse are neglect, hoarding, shooting, fighting, beating, etc” (Humane Advocate N.p.). There have been cases in which justice has been served, such as the case of Michael Vick. Sadly, there are many cases in which justice is not fully served. However, there are organizations that are committed to helping these innocent animals such as Peta, to end animal cruelty. Based on studies and animal shelters, it is evident that animal
Human beings belong to the Animal Kingdom, therefore human beings are animals. Human beings have rights; animals have rights, or at least they should. Unfortunately, however, human beings feel the need to take those unalienable rights away from animals who have no way of fighting back. Local law enforcement and animals’ rights advocates should do more to eliminate animal abuse because it is unethical, immoral, and inhumane.

Even though animals inhabit the world along humans, humans believe that they have superiority over these creatures. This superiority comes with power and that power is overused. Many animals today are in danger, because people are injuring and killing animals is the reason why. Animal cruelty is shown in many different ways. Some ways include, abusing them when they are pets, using them for entertainment, testing on them, and feeding on them. Animals should receive rights because they live a harsh life of pain and oppression.
What is animal abuse? For starters, animal abuse is when a person inflicts suffering or harm on any animal. Most people, all over the world own an animal; but there are still far more animals left out on the street. Homeless animals are either left out on the streets or are “thrown” into shelters. This became a problem because not all animals are domesticated. Animal shelters began as pounds. “When the system began to be used to impound wandering dogs and cats, these animals were often killed because little monetary value was placed on them” (Lila Miller, Animal sheltering in the United States: Yesterday, today, and tomorrow, 1) . This issue persists because shelter workers and others truly believe that an animal life has no value, but that is not true; animals are living beings just like humans with brains, hearts, and bones. A reported case was that “authorities had seized 23 puppies, 11 cats, and four adult dogs from a self-processed animal “rescue” after they were found in the “rescuer’s” filthy home.” (‘No-Kill’ Label Slowly Killing Animals, 3). This means that an unauthorized person hoarded many animals and forced the animals into an unsafe “shelter”. The shelter being a dirty home.
Animal abuse is a growing but preventable problem that occurs every day. There are many different types of animal abuse. One example is when the person intentionally harms the animal and the other example is when the person just can't meet the animal’s needs. There is a law on how many animals a person can own but not everyone can afford to get their animal fixed and when they multiply it gets out of control. There are many laws against animal abuse but since animal abuse is not considered a violent crime people do not care about the consequences. Animals are not considered as valuable as humans which is why the topic is brushed off ,but statistics show that a percentage of animal abusers also abuse people around them. There are states trying
Each year, the most extreme cases of animal abuse receive media attention. Yet, the animal cruelty problem is more widespread than is reported in the media. Animal abuse and neglect is a nationwide issue, affecting thousands of animals nationwide. Cruelty to animals is defined as the infliction of physical pain, suffering or death on an animal, beyond what is necessary. There is a need to stop abusers from acting in such a horrific manner–preventing the neglect and suffering of the animals. What causes animal abusers to act in such a cruel way towards animals? How are cases of animal abuse being managed, and how should cases be handled? Finally, does the status of animals in society contribute to the rate of their abuse?
“I looked at all the caged animals in the shelter… the cast-offs of human society. I saw in their eyes love and hope, fear and dread, sadness and betrayal. And I was angry. “God,” I said, “this is terrible! Why don’t you do something?” God was silent for a moment and then He spoke softly, I have done something,” He replied. “
There are many animals who deal with abuse everyday, and that is not okay. If an animal is neglected or abused the pet will be taken away and the caretaker will be charged $1,500. Animals are very loyal, such as dogs, dogs are one of the most loyal animals you can own. When abused, they don’t know where they went wrong. They only know that you are mad at them. Animals, such as humans, shouldn’t be abused or neglected. Most animals who are abused or neglected are usually abused unintentionally, but the second most are abused on purpose. The people who abuse animals on purpose sometimes deal with mental illnesses, were abused as children, or have a hard time dealing with stress or anger. Animals are just like humans who have been abused. They are usually skittish and shy. People tend to see animals differently than humans, but they are the same in my eyes. For example, if I locked you in my basement, starved, and beat you, I’d be charged with attempted murder and kidnapping. Pets have the same rights as you to live freely, but people don’t see it. You are able to live on your own and take care of yourself, but they
In an animal lover’s world , killing an animal is a crime. Animals are innocent .In her article “The Truth about Farm Animals” , former farmer Heather Rose explains, “Animals around the U.S are mistreated every day and we don’t even know about it. They are kept in small cages often with so little space that they can't even turn around or lie down comfortably” (Reno NV). People express that our do these things since, people have rights and animals don't. At the point when people say things like that, it makes me so furious, what has this world come to when we say that animals don't have rights. Is it since they can't talk? Or, on the other hand is it since they are not human and we should regard them as we would a cloth doll. We shouldn't treat animals along these lines regardless, there are better approaches to get the meat at that point by killing it at 5-7 weeks old (chicken) or six months(pigs). I believe that killing animals is pure evil , I mean it's despicable , Animals have lives
Some are blind to the fact that every ten seconds an animal is abused in the U.S. 60% of abused animals are dogs and 26% of the dogs are Pitbulls. Only 1,920 crimes against animals are reported a year. Many people believe that animals have no feelings and feel no pain, that they are in this world for slave labor and torture. Those people couldn't be more wrong. Animals may look different from humans, but they have just as much the right to live happy lives and thrive as human beings do. People use the term “animal” as one that is savage and unruly, so does that make humans the animals? Some animals are rescued and are given the chance to live out a human-like life, but then there are even more who don't get that same chance. So fight for the rights of these animals and punish the abusers, Animals can't speak for themselves so all must do it for
Animal cruelty is a huge problem around the world. People think it is ok to hurt an animal and starve them just because they are not humans. This is not ok at all. In fact, it is illegal. My dog is an abused animal. He is really scared by his old owner and daily tasks can be a struggle with him. He is terrified of males and does not like young children. He has random flashbacks and flipps out. Going to the pet store can skyrocket his anxiety. He has a love hate relationship with car rides. Though I have worked with him a lot over the past year, there are still struggles. The vets is a nightmare. He never had any shots or even been to the vets before in his life before we got him. It takes 4-5 of us to hold down my 15 pound dog. We have to put down his food at a certain time because he never knew when his next meal was and eats it so fast he gets sick. He use to be starved days at a time. “Animal cruelty is any deliberate act. This is due by intention or neglect. They cause an animal unnecessary pain or suffering, including inflicting pain on an animal for the abuser’s enjoyment or amusement” (Bourazak 2). Why do people think this is ok? Animals are just like humans. They have feeling and and living breathing creatures too. Just like us. What would give us a right to abuse them? Animal neglect is defined as the failure to provide an animal sufficient water, food, shelter, and/or veterinary care. Also lack of grooming and lack of sanitation. Abused animals are affected in so many ways from the abuse from us humans. Some of the many ways they are affected by their abusers physically and behaviorally.
