Just this year thousands of kids started their freshman year of college here at NIU. Like many, I was terrified, but instead of letting my fear get to me, I used it to fuel my confidence instead. That is my belief, that instead of hiding when you are afraid, you should use the fear of the unknown and turn it into a reason to experience more. I used to be too nervous of being judged by others to ever go to parties, to dances, anything where I knew there would be people that I didn’t know. My few friends would try and pull me out, but I would almost always tell them no. They would ask why and I would just come up with whatever excuse I could pull out of thin air. It got to the point where I was so nervous about meeting new people or entering
Freshman 101 is a class adapted from the parrot program (Fay & Medway, 2006, p. 226). The parrot program was designed for college students at Cornell University. Freshman 101 is the first of its kind in the state of South Carolina and the first to extend Parrot’s college program to high school freshmen (p. 226). Each two-hour intervention class contained 25 to 30 freshmen students. The objectives of the class were to have participants understand the definition of acquaintance rape and the frequency that it takes place along with South Carolina’s laws regarding rape (p. 226). Students also learned about mixed messages associated with verbal and non-verbal communication and how to clearly state their wants and desires (p. 227). Communication,
I was very excited to start my junior year of college. I had a great year my second and third year and now was excited to see my friends, play soccer and work hard to improve my grades like always. I am m not very proud that I end my junior semester year with a 2.5 GPA. This was my hardest semester because I change my major from Physical Education to Business Administration.
Sophomore year had ended, and my summer had just begun. After a long wait to gain permission to go on a backpacking trip. My father gave me the approval. I took my love for the outdoors and began to explore it even more.
As I get ready to face my senior year, no body can predict what is going to happen like the weather. Weather is a great example to represent the coming senior year, sometimes it is good and sometimes it is bad. There is nothing much I can do about it. Even though there is a forecast, but still, there is going to be something unexpected.
My first day of senior year had been just like every other year, except my schedule was very basic. The goals I had in mind were mainly outside of my time in school. I had been taking college courses online to better prepare myself for college and to eliminate costs in classes, so I had to make sure I passed all of them. Another goal had been to save money from my job to accomplish personal goals after I exit high school.
Welcome incoming Freshmen! The start of a new chapter is soon to begin. Although college may sound scary to several it sounds exciting to others. People who have mentioned college not comparing to high school are right. Becoming a college student means giving up a great amount of your free time. College can be tough, but continue reading for advice on how to achieve college or life goals.
Senior year of high school is finally here. I am quite nervous about this year and especially what follows throughout the year. Most seniors in high school are excited for the year and have a plan and just know what they are going to do when they graduate. But honestly, I'm not sure what I want to do yet. I'm just worried about today, and my health, and lifestyle and just trying to make my senior year a great year.
My senior year is coming to an end, high school is pretty much over. With the finish line quickly approaching, I reflect on all the things I’ve done in these past four years and, more importantly, all the things I did not do in the past four years that I probably should have. In retrospect, I never did feel like high school was going to be where the best time of my life would be remembered, but now that it’s pretty much over I think maybe I should have treated it like it was. I would love to be able to say there is nothing I didn’t do that I wanted to and that I didn’t have any regrets, but there is a fair share of both. When I think too much about the end, I get sentimental about the experiences, friends, laughs, awkward moments, and more.
Senior year was going to be the best one yet. I was going to be involved and fully enjoy it. However, my excitement started to diminish when my best friend got a boyfriend a month before school started. I didn’t think things would change at first, but suddenly I no longer had a constant companion at social events. The nights where we’d hang out were gone, and I found myself constantly third-wheeling. My hope for an amazing senior year was gone; I lost my best friend, and I felt miserably alone. (499)
Most students believe that they have it made when they reach their final year of high school. Most also conceived the idea that their year will go by leisurely; but as a senior you face the most challenging obstacles that will test your integrity. Depending on the kind of person you are these challenges will make or break you. In turn leading to your downfall or your success. The choice is truly yours and I have made mine.
Growing up I struggled with the fear of what others thought of me, and it kept me trapped. At high school prom I couldn’t convince myself to dance when all my friends were because I was afraid people would laugh at me. Maybe I was just a chorophobic? But I realized it wasn’t just dancing. As a child I always wanted to dress like the “cool” kids so one day in
There are over two hundred and fifty higher education institutions in the state of Texas. This number will most likely seem like a lot to the average high school senior trying to figure out which college is best for him/her. For me it was hard before my junior year, I went from wanting a Longhorn to Roadrunner, a Bear, an Aggie and a Leo before eventually deciding to become an Islander. As you can see I have changed my mind a lot and this was all between my seventh grade year to the end of the summer going into my junior year. Not to mention the stent when I wanted to go to Yale because I was obsessed with Gilmore Girls one summer in elementary and also because I loved Rory’s dorm room. That was the problem when I began to decide on colleges,
Many college students find their freshmen year emotionally challenging. For instance, transitioning to a new place far from home they find themselves alone, depressed and emotional. Other students work so hard to achieve their goals of academic excellency, that they overwhelm themselves to exhaustion. By the same token, receiving negative feed back from teachers can lower students’ self-esteem. Even though students are going through these struggles, at the end of their progress they will feel relieved because they achieved their
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” -Nelson Mandela. School can be stressful at times, even in elementary when all you wanted to do is play and forget about homework. However, as the person started growing up they realized that school is a responsibility and it is very important to go far in life. Freshman year can be a important year due to a new experience, coming of age, and it brings awareness of what will happen in the years to come. Nevertheless, senior year is equally, if not more important because it is the year you would prepare for ACT and SAT, apply for colleges, and to anticipate graduating.
Freshman year is not as undemanding and trouble- free as it seems. You must do what you need to in order to survive the freshman year. If you start to fool around in your first year of high school, it might turn into a bad habit for the years to come. Therefore, certain guidelines can help throughout this phase. In order to survive the year, you must learn some basic rules and try to stick with them for the next four years of high school. You have to be prepared to do some work, but also have fun while you’re at it. What you learn during these four memorable years will most likely stay with you for the rest of your life.
