Friar Lawrence made a crazy plan that involved potions and such crazy things that could have had safe alternatives. Juliet could have been sneaked to Mantua with Romeo, instead, she took a sleep potion. Because of the Friar's actions, 3 people died all because of his decision. Friar had many choices he could've made instead of using his "skills" of making potions. The actions could be argued that he had little time to think of a reasonable time, the marriage was only 2 days away but he was still responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet no matter the justification, he accidentally indirectly killed him.

Had he done so, he could have informed Romeo that Juliet was alive, thus he could have prevented Romeo's death. Also, Friar Lawrence did not physically stop Juliet's suicide; he simply said "Come, come away... I'll dispose of thee among a sisterhood of nuns"(V. iii. 154-157), and ran away. Had he not been so hasty, he could have realized that the consequences of being caught trespassing are less punitive than those of abandoning Juliet. In fact, Friar Lawrence knew that if he abandoned Juliet, she likely would have committed suicide, because she threatened to so in the past "...And with this knife I'll help it presently"(IV. i. 54). Furthermore, he planned on solving the family feud with the marriage "...To turn your household's rancour to pure love"(II. iii. 92), but he did not make any arrangements to inform Montague and Capulet that he married Romeo and Juliet; he simply disappeared. Had he explained the situation to Montague and Capulet, at any time before the catastrophe, they would have trusted the friar, a holy man who everyone respected, and they would have hopefully dissolved their family feud. They did so in the end after the friar was forced to explain (V. iii). In brief, Friar Lawrence should have been more proactive, and he should have stepped in at the right time.

Sadly, Friar Lawrence is making a fatal mistake; instead of simply telling Romeo of his and Juliet's plan, he plans on sending a letter through Friar John. To his surprise the letter does not go through! "After I found him, the healthy officers,/suspecting we were in a house infected by the plague,/boarded up the doors, and wouldn't let us out. So I couldn't go/ to Mantua"(5.2.6-9). As Friar John explains, he was suspected of having the plague and was not able to deliver the letter to Romeo. Although the letter seems like a liable idea, it is not nearly as reliable as simply informing Romeo of the actual situation. By simply speaking face to face with Romeo, Romeo will know the situation of Juliet and the poison and will not kill himself. Not in a grave to lay one in, another out to have” (Act II scene III 85) Also, if Friar Lawrence did not give Juliet the potion that she was going to use to deceive her family into thinking she was dead to get out of her marriage to Paris and make Romeo aware of what was going to happen, their deaths would not have occurred. Romeo goes to the tomb thinking Juliet is really dead after Balthasar accidently informed him of Juliet’s apparent death not knowing of her plan. If he had stayed there longer without taking the poison he had obtained from Apothecary they both would not have killed themselves. He brought the poison to the tomb to end his own life next to Juliet after seeing for himself if she was really dead. Romeo did not want to live without Juliet.

In conclusion, Friar Lawrence is guilty for the death of Romeo and Juliet is because he gave Juliet the potion, he knew how Romeo would react the way he did, and he had left Juliet by herself when she found out Romeo was dead. He had known what he was giving Juliet and what the outcome might contain. Friar Lawrence had been around romeo many times and knew how he acted.
