Latin American artists famous for her revolutionary self- portraits. Frida Kahlo played a revolutionary role in the globalizing twentieth century, because she influenced feminism, suffered remarkable tragedies, and was remembered for her self- portraits showcasing pain, passion, and surrealism.

Rivera encouraged Kahlo to develop her paintings and herself as a work of art (“The
Life”). Although Kahlo and Rivera had faced infidelities and affairs Kahlo expressed her pain through her paintings. “Even though their marriage suffered great pain, the desire to be together never died out” (“The Life”). “Being the wife of Rivera is the most marvelous thing in the world… I let him play matrimony with other women. Rivera is not anybody’s husband and never will be, but he is a great comrade” (“Frida Kahlo”). Frida Kahlo received her primary education at the Colegio Aleman, Mexico City’s (German School). In 1922, she graduated and became a student at the Escuela Nacional Preparatoria (National Preparatory School), Kahlo was one among 35 female students out of a total of some 2,000 other students, Kahlo aimed in becoming a medical doctor. Frida became one of the school's first female students at age fifteen. She was suddenly immersed in the rigors and passions of the finest High School in Mexico City.
